- Hoop-Dee-Doo turns 50!!
- The show opened on June 30, 1974 as part of the Disney World Fine Arts College Workshop program. Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue was so popular that summer, that Disney made it a permanent show on September 5, 1974.
- Rockin Roller Coaster is back after 6 months of refurb
- https://blogmickey.com/2024/07/rock-n-roller-coaster-returns-from-refurbishment-with-updated-lighting-effects-improved-ride-system-pre-show-changes-and-more/
- No major changes. Queue show and queue sets are spruced up a bit.

- Disney patents a new flume ride, highlights a Moana themed application.
- Disney has patented a ride system that keeps many of the traditional water flume elements such as water-propelled movement, but combines it with a new 2-dimensional guiding system.
- This next-generation flume ride system would allow for tighter turns, more thrilling effects, and a more controlled point of view for sets and scenes on either side of the direction of travel. In the patent, Disney says that they are able to change the orientation of the vehicle while still maintaining a traditional water-propelled ride system. This is essentially a low-tech, flume-style version of the controlled-spin “StoryCoaster” that Disney has implemented for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
- there are rumors of a Moana water ride coming to Magic Kingdom, or a Lion King water ride at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Walt Disney World has not announced anything for Disney’s AK
- The History of the Dole Whip
- In 1976, United Airlines was replaced as the title sponsor of the Enchanted Tiki Room by Dole. Right away, Dole Pineapple products could be purchased in Adventureland.
- Then in 1983, Dole took over the sponsorship of the WDW attraction.
- Then, also in 1983, a landmark year in World History, at the Dole Technical Center in San Jose, CA the Dole Whip was invented by food scientist, Kathy Westphal. The world would never be the same.
- And since July 18th is National Dole Whip Day… here are some fun things to know about the Dole Whip…
- It debuted at the Magic Kingdom in 1984, and then launched at DL in 1986.
- Dole Pineapple Soft-Serve was eventually available in stores throughout the country, but the Dole Whip was exclusive to the Disney Parks and the Dole Plantation on Oahu until 2023… when it became available in retail outlets.
- More Dole Whip knowledge:
- Technically, a Dole Whip is ONLY the delicious soft serve sold in a cup.
- But it seems most people also refer to the Pineapple Float as a Dole Whip or Dole Whip float.
- Dole Whip is a pineapple soft serve that’s vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free, and cholesterol-free. It’s made from a pineapple-flavored dry mix that’s mixed with cold water and poured into a soft serve machine. The dry mix contains ingredients like sugar, coconut oil, citric acid, and natural flavors, and it has a shelf life of 18 months.
- Dole Whip comes in many flavors, including pineapple, orange, strawberry, raspberry, mango, lemon, lime, cherry, and watermelon. The fruit flavors are vegan, but the vanilla flavor contains dairy and is not vegan.
- A single serving of Dole Whip contains 90 calories.
- Dole Whip can be served in many different ways, such as on its own, in a float, or in other creations like Dole Whip Nachos. Dole Whip Nachos are made with waffle cone chips, mango boba pearls, pineapple, strawberry sauce, whipped cream, and sprinkles.
- You can find Dole Whip at various locations across Disney theme parks, including Aloha Isle in the Magic Kingdom, Refreshment Outpost in Epcot’s World Showcase, and Trilo-Bites in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
- But our favorite place for a Dole Whip – Pineapple Lanai at Poly – available there with a nice shot of dark rum.
- Dole Whip Day is on July 18th this year, and to celebrate you can get a Dole Whip Pineapple Upside Down Cake.
- Disney Parks Blog has a recipe for the Dole Whip Pineapple Upside Down Cake. But I’m going to give you now a recipe for a similar (but not the same) Pineapple Dole Whip treat at home!!!
- Technically, a Dole Whip is ONLY the delicious soft serve sold in a cup.
Frozen Pineapple Treat Ingredients
- 1/2 to 3/4 cup pineapple juice, divided (DOLE recommended)
- 2 cups frozen pineapple chunks (DOLE recommended)
- 1 cup dairy-free vanilla ice cream
For Frozen Pineapple Treat:
- Place 1/2 cup pineapple juice, frozen pineapple, and dairy-free vanilla ice cream in blender and blend until smooth – do not over blend.
- If the mixture is too thick, add 2 tablespoons of pineapple juice at a time.
- Scoop onto Pineapple Upside-Down Cake and serve immediately.

Hello out there Disney fam. This is Chris and I’m Kelly Kelly’s wearing her Skipper canteen ears which are really amazing ears. There’s a lot going on with these ears. The
Kelli 0:44
tiny hat,
Chris 0:45
a tiny hat is the winner. But one side being the wheel of the ship. The other side. The other ear is a life preserver.

Chris 1:20
I got all kinds of notes here. Grand Haven, Michigan. We’re gonna want to go to this place. Okay. It’s on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. Known for its sandy beaches, a shop and restaurant line boardwalk runs along the harbor to Grand Haven State Park beach, and the south pier home to the 1839 Grand Haven lighthouse.
Kelli 1:44
Wow, that sounds to Dorbz Yes. Very,
Chris 1:48
very cool thing they seasonal Grand Haven musical fountain features synchronized light and water shows.
Kelli 1:56
Michigan is on the list. Seriously, that is officially on the list on the list? Yes.
Chris 2:01
Ridley Park, Pennsylvania population of 7002. Don’t forget those other two people. Ridley park is home of Boeing’s ch 47 Chinook helicopter division.
Kelli 2:14
Really Park isn’t that that’s in Chicago. Isn’t that where somebody plays baseball?
Chris 2:21
Oh man, that is amazing. Is Wrigley Wrigley. Like the god like the gum. Exactly. It’s those those people different those are today. I’m shocked today you knew that there was a baseball park in Chicago that sounded similar to Ridley Park Wrigley Wrigley Wrigley. Wrigley gum.
Kelli 2:45
Is it sponsored by the gum people?
Chris 2:47
The gum, the gum people the people who created the gum are also I
Kelli 2:51
did not know there was that much money and gum. But hey, that’s a complete digression. I feel like you were telling us where someone else listened.
Chris 3:04
Clermont, Florida less than 30 minute drive from Disney World. Claremont is a thriving residential community that serves Disney cast members and visitors alike
Kelli 3:13
oh my gosh well welcome Claremont. That’s right. We lived in a neighborhood called Claremont
Chris 3:20
we did well differently Yes, we did. I was shocked I was you really threw me there for a second but you’re right we did spelled differently Well, I
Kelli 3:29
can’t see the spelling I know you can’t your computer but I’m just saying maybe this is Claremont. But we’re trying to like you know just make a connection with the connections I’m just
Chris 3:38
we are making Olive Branch Yeah. Okay. Apt out France, APTA BT
Kelli 3:45

Chris 3:48

Kelli 3:57

Kelli 4:09

Chris 4:19
you were like oh they probably say it. I say they say it with flair. They say everything they say sounds amazing.
Kelli 4:25
You were like you don’t know the French or that voice that is what all has been sound like all that’s been so like that.
Chris 4:38
Oh mg is gonna be one of those. So let’s talk about what’s going on. Really, it’s just what I want to talk about.
Kelli 4:49
Right this Chris segment also known as the news or Main Street USA. Yeah.
Chris 4:55
Yes, what turned 50 turned 50 on June 10. June 30,
Kelli 5:00
turned 50 on June 30. I don’t know.
Chris 5:06
You do musical review, hope they do loopty day musical review turned 50. Now they typically celebrate the anniversary of the WHO to do on like September the fifth because that’s when it went official at the Magic Kingdom
Kelli 5:20
was like a soft out of town preview.
Chris 5:24
I would pay anything for somebody to like write in where these things come from the random movie quotes that we say. Yes, it’s like it was like an out of town preview. Actually, the show opened on June 30 1974 as part of the Disney World Fine Arts College workshop program. Wow, that’s a long name. And you can’t really can’t really like turn it into an acronym. It’s
Kelli 5:53
a lot going on there. Okay.
Chris 5:55
The whoop dee doo musical review was so popular that summer that Disney made it a permanent show on September the fifth 1974. So typically, they celebrated on September the fifth, but they did June 30 this year. Super big deal. The coolest thing though, some of the original cast by the original cast members. And so some of the original cast members were the audience participants.
Kelli 6:21
Oh my gosh, so good, because it’s probably still a very similar actor
Chris 6:25
is still very similar show and it’s just like they had a great time.
Kelli 6:31
Wow, that’s awesome. Really, really cool. So awesome.
Chris 6:34
The rock and roller coaster is back after six months of refurb okay, they totally changed it out.
Kelli 6:43
New Car.
Chris 6:44
Totally different band. That’s the Aerosmith anymore. Oh, God. Just kidding. None of that. None of that is true. That’s just what everybody says every time this thing goes down for a major refurb Okay, yeah, it’s the same show. Okay, they didn’t do much to it. Honestly, the folks are gonna see like in the in the pre show where you’re seeing the band the studio there they’ve they’ve replaced a black Les Paul in their house back home all that took six months? No, it did not. So I just first thing that’s been this way all day, honestly. They, that’s the kind of things that they did in the queue. And in the pre show, the biggest noticeable change is in the lighting system on the ride itself. And so not impressed, not even a little bit.
Kelli 7:38
They spent six months on lighting.
Chris 7:41
Well, I don’t know since what I don’t know what goes into all that. But what what used to happen is that most of the there were no real lighting effects. The things that you see in the dark when you’re on the roller coaster were lit up constantly. So there was some ambient lighting that reflected off of those things. Now, those things only light up as you go by. And so the dark parts of the roller coaster are much darker than they used to be. You’re not impressed not. You hate that ride anyway,
Kelli 8:15
it really hurts my ears. It it is possible to hold me in my seat without strapping something on my shoulder that is so tall that it hurts my ears and makes my head banging around. And the proof in that pudding is that a lot of the new arise that they’ve created. Like for example, Tron and Guardians of the Galaxy do not hurt my head and they don’t hurt my ears. Aerosmith makes it feel like somebody is just giving me a concussion on both sides. I get off of that ride feeling concussed and you’re telling me they spent six months on lighting. I get off of that ride concussed and they spent six months on lighting. Are you hearing me Disney?
Chris 8:58
Everybody’s here is not what they
Kelli 9:01
should have spent their time on. Put in a new new cars that hold me in the seat without hurting my ears and making me concussed. I just keep going. Just I’m just saying oh, well, they need to listen to the people. And the people. We’re not asking for better lighting on Aerosmith. Les Paul, no, that is not what we were asking for.
Chris 9:30
That’s how we wrote it. I got off that thing. And I was like, You know what would really set this off? Do Les Paul knew last fall and some some dynamic lighting that only lit up the signs when you read by them? No,
Kelli 9:42
it’s not gonna get me back on it. I’m done with feeling concuss please, if I want to listen to Aerosmith music couldn’t tell
Chris 9:50
if you were concussed. It’s like it’s also like you’ve never written the matter whore.
Kelli 9:55
Know the matter horn did not hurt my head the matter horn or ever Anything hurts every bone in your body. I’m against the matter horn as well. I’m just simply saying that if you’re going to spend six months on Aerosmith do more than lighting in a Les Paul.
Chris 10:14
Well, that’s what I’m asking for some other stuff in the queue. They don’t care about
Kelli 10:18
the queue. Nobody cares about the queue. It’s important. I am concussed. When I get off of that ride. Nobody cares about the queue. How hard it is for me not to be cussing up a storm, right? Because I want to drop some four letter words, but we’re trying to be friendly.
Unknown Speaker 10:41
Are we?
Kelli 10:42
I am I’m I’m bringing I’m reining it in a bit. Wow.
Chris 10:47
I know. The crowd doesn’t know that. But I know you are.
Kelli 10:52
I’m just saying like, nobody wants to be concussed and 2020. For Disney. You can you can make roller coasters that don’t cut costs us. Okay, move on. What’s the next bit of news?
Chris 11:04
I wasn’t done with that news.
Kelli 11:06
I was just like, what else have they done?
Chris 11:09
I’m just kidding. I was told that I’d be dealt with if I had six more items on that list. I would not cover them
Kelli 11:19
not impressed move on.
Chris 11:20
Disney has patented a new flume ride system. And they they appear to have suggested that it may be used on a melodic style of Dharma water themed attraction. Okay. Oh, we’re okay we’re open minded to this.
Kelli 11:44
I’m for it. I’m all for new patents and typically flumes don’t concuss me
Chris 11:55
said the word can cause I’m saying can cause semantics Disney has patented a ride system that keeps many of the traditional water flume elements such as a water propelled movement but combines it with a new two dimensional guide system as a lot of words here but what they’ve effectively designed and they and they basically say we could use this on on a ride on a boat that looks like an outrigger like Like, like,
Kelli 12:31
ah like a new situation. Yeah. And
Chris 12:34
so they’re saying still water propelled but the problem with the current flume rides everywhere is that it goes straight down whatever the flume is and you the the rider are basically forced to look either right or left at whatever their The show is. Yep, right. What they want to do is effectively what they’ve done on other rides like guardians of galaxy, they force you to turn where they turn the ride, CES, the car where they want you to see the show while the vehicle still moves in the original direction.
Kelli 13:16
Can I ask a clarifying question maybe
Chris 13:19
I don’t know if I can answer it when you say
Kelli 13:21
a flume ride like a log okay that’s not to say like Tiana is we’re not talking about like at the waterparks
Chris 13:28
right okay right no like Tiana is like a dark ride type environment Okay, okay like Tiana is ride where you’re your your field of vision is straight ahead along with the ride right the flume is going down the flume path the log is going down the flume and you look one way or the other to see the show they wouldn’t be able to they want to control which direction you’re looking as you’re still going along with the water is still propelling you without having the boat flip without having the boat turn over. Right? And if they figured out then wow, that seems like it’s worth a patent. Well, they that’s what the patent is is saying hey, we have figured this out and we wouldn’t when we build it we don’t want somebody stealing stealing our idea and as people tend to do yeah pay us for it right? Yes.
Kelli 14:20
I like it that says
Chris 14:21
there’s been rumors that they Mallanna water ride is coming to Animal Kingdom or that a Lion King water ride is coming. In any case, they built the patent land area Yeah, or what will be something else? Yeah, okay. Yeah. So as they so they have applied for this cool new right technology out of it.
Kelli 14:47
Did they not have a water ride animal kingdom? Isn’t that where the thing that it’s like a big boat?
Chris 14:54
Yes. Callie river. River Rapids.
Kelli 14:56
Yeah, just nobody rides it.
Chris 14:58
No, lots and lots of people. Right
we, we I’ve written it but we don’t typically write
Kelli 15:11
it once in I got soaked. Yeah, that’s the idea. That’s just not the it’s not worth it.
Chris 15:18
I think that’s what people write it for. Nobody wants wet underwear. All of the people that ride it want. They don’t want wet
Kelli 15:25
on days and you know they want to be wet. Nobody wants chafing at Disney. They don’t. They know. I can tell you right now nobody’s looking for wet undies.
Chris 15:34
They are looking to get wet on that ride. And they do get wet on that ride. So yes, there’s a water ride to animal kingdom. But we might get another one with this special new ride system. Tomorrowland.
Kelli 15:45
Yes, ma’am. So I am talking about food. But this what I know it is shocking. But I’m taking us on to the Disney treasure. Oh, now a little background. The Disney treasure is the upcoming six cruise ship to be owned and operated by Disney Cruise Line, which is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company and is due to enter service on December 21 24. Okay, so months away. Based on what I saw, all the itineraries are seven days. And it appears to be Eastern and Western Caribbean. Okay. So we’ve had some of this on the podcast before you talked about some of the lounges. You talked about the Haunted Mansion lounge?
Chris 16:31
Is that on this one that’s on the treasure. Okay. Yes. So
Kelli 16:34
you talked about the Haunted Mansion lounge. So I want to give a quick overview. So they have released what some of the themes, restaurant themed restaurants and lounges are previously now they’ve released food that you can expect at a few of those themed restaurants and lounges. Okay, so I’m going to revisit the dining options in the lounge options that we know we have, and then tell you some of the food options at the ones they’ve released. Okay, so for the lounges, you’ve got the Haunted Mansion parlor. You’ve got the skipper society lounge. You’ve got the periscope pub, which is featured on 20,000 leagues under the sea. Oh, you’ve got the Rose lounge, which is Beauty and the Beast, and it apparently features floating roses. Not sure what that’s about. And you’ve got what was recently announced which is The Aristocats Lounge, which is called the scat cat lounge or slide. So they have released three dishes or three options that will be available at The Aristocats lounge. One of them is the creme de la creme martini, infused with cognac, chocolate and a nutmeg topping.
Chris 17:42
Interesting.
Kelli 17:43
The second is the cat drink with clarified bourbon, Amma ro Aperol and fresh lemon. The cat drink and then the last one is what I’m most interested in, which is the Turkish tea experience. Oh, and I love it when a drink is called an experience. This is a tea based cocktail for two or more guests. I feel like that’s gonna come with a souvenir mug. Normally when they say like two or more gifts, it comes in some type of a special serving vessel and I think it’s going to have a souvenir mug which I’m pretty excited about. Okay, so those are the that’s what they have released now on the lounge side that food for dining. Okay, we’ve got several different dining options now the way it works on Disney I looked at this there’s there’s certain dining that is included. And a lot of that includes restaurants, obviously the main dining the buffet area, like your average cruise ship. And then there are other restaurants that you cost extra like the nice Steakhouse, restaurants, things like that. Okay, so the one they’ve released some the most food on is called Plaza de coco. Okay, this is a fiesta on the high season, Santa Cecilia plaza at night with a cocoa themed entertainment. Okay, so this is I’m going to read this from the website because this is what’s so cool. So a lot of these restaurants that are separate from main dining offer multiple different dining experiences throughout the week. So if you come say Monday through Wednesday, this is your dining experience. If you come Thursday through Saturday, this is your dining experience with different entertainment different vibe all of that. So pleasant Coco will be the first theatrical dining experience themed to the Disney and Pixar Coco film. This theater in the round entertainment venue will feature a central stage surrounded by dining tables with performances and show effects that will spread throughout the room. It looks really really cool, very cool. On the first night, the story of Miguel and his familia will continue where it left off in the film, as they gather in Mariachi Plaza to take your family on a colorful music field journey, including dinner, featuring modern twist on traditional Mexican fare and a lineup of live entertainment. Your family will be invited to join Miguel, his parents Enrique and Louisa and Emily to Elena for a festive gathering that honors the heritage of music and love that runs deep in the Riviera family in the Rivera family. During the seven night cruise, you will get not one, but two chances to visit this family dining venue. During your second night at Plaza de coco. Miguel will reunite with his great great grandparents Hector Emma Imelda, as he transports them to the town square in Santa Cecilia with the help of his magic guitar. Together Miguel and his ancestors will celebrate Dia de los Muertos Rivera family style, with a unique lineup of memorable songs from the film. Very cool. So here is here are some of the dishes that you’ll get at Plaza de coco. So this is what I want you to imagine is these are high end dishes. These are beautiful, gorgeous things that you would see at you know, the wine festival at Epcot. Okay. The ABW Aleta Elena shrimp Diablo with chili chipotle sauce, cilantro, you’re out pickled red onion and toasted bereits by Rotes a pretty sure I said that wrong. This is what you want honey, the Teresa St. croquettes with chili lime crema cotija cheese and cilantro ask them to leave out the cilantro some of these are heavy on cilantro. Oh, you don’t you hate cilantro. Wait You lied to the podcast people. Third blistered poblano pepper stuff with wok Sokka cheese and green rice. red capsicum and green parsley grilled snapper with fried yuca. Refried beans, baby spinach and pika guy you so great. These dishes are great gore. Just they’re gorgeous. This is not like counter service and departure. Okay, or even table serve. This is really really nice dishes. Pan Seared Adobo spicy bass with seared scallops, rainbow carrots, spinach, romanesco peas and chimichurri sauce. Another thing I’ll say is positive cocoa is included in the price of the cruise. Oh,
Chris 22:24
that’s a big detail. Yeah, no, this
Kelli 22:26
isn’t considered one of the high end restaurants so you can go here or you can go to main dining or you can go to buffet or whatever. But that’s cool. You got to have reservations. Okay, but this is not so that’s nice. Louisa is POJO Assata with Misha chan citrus chicken, cilantro rice and serrano tomatillo salsa. In real case, Port Wine braced center cut beef short rib with cheddar cheese and green onion, red mash and long green beans with crisp shallots. right these are amazingly like elevated Yeah, Mexican Yeah. Mexican chocolate tart with spice chocolate cream, caramel pecan nuts and a chocolate glaze. warm coconut trace late Chase. Oh, coconut cake caramel sauce and don’t say de leche de ice cream now. I did say it you love a tray slideshows listen to the next one honey, a margarita lime cheesecake with a sea salt shortbread and a raspberry Agave Margarita Cooley. It looks
Chris 23:34
gorgeous kind of speechless. How can I have both?
Kelli 23:38
You gotta get two nights I think all right. I mean, it’s a cruise. You’re not really crude so you’ve had multiple desserts. Okay, then there is another restaurant called Worlds of Marvel. They also have two special nights. They do a group remix night where you follow a group during his own screen quest to throw the ultimate surprise party for his friend rocket. Plus eat to the beat while listening to hit songs from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies with awesome mixtapes to test your knowledge of all things marvel in a fun filled trivia game for the whole family. That’s cool. On another night, you have Avengers quantum encounter, featuring a special inference in person appearance by Spider Man and you get to help save the day with the aid of powerful quantum technology. That’s included that that is it.
Chris 24:23
That’s all part of the data is included. Yes. Wow. Yes.
Kelli 24:26
Then you’ve got your steak restaurant called 1923. This is a taste of Hollywood. Named after the year the Walt Disney Studios was founded. This elegant 1923 Restaurant celebrates the imagination of classic animation and the unwavering spirit of the original studio that started it all. Feel like Hollywood royalty as you dine on fresh California cuisine amid storyboards, sketches and props for adventure theme movies like Tarzan, The Lion King Aladdin and more. This looked very Hollywood Brown Derby, okay, but it’s a it’s a bit different than that. A few other eating options there are two different buffets there is walk up cafes, there’s a smokestack barbecue. There is other things. But then one specific that’s really cool is called Jumbos sweets. This is an ice cream parlor inspired by Jerry jumbo Jr. from Zootopia. More than 31 flavors of handmade gelato and ice cream plus specialty treats candies and more. So imagine going into the confectionery for free. That’s right. That’s how cruise ships work. Yes. So the hops carrot cake. MC wild raspberry cream cupcake store red sandwich. Mango leopard cake, sickle carrot, chocolate covered strawberries and Zootopia chocolate bark postcards. So
Chris 25:52
can I go in there and say I’ll have this flavor of gelato? Yes, I then say, but I also want Judy Hopps cake. That’s how cruise ships work. The the restaurant you said was based on like, the 2019 23. Yeah. Also part.
Kelli 26:14
I don’t know if that’s included. They haven’t released the menu yet. What I can say is there is a really nice steak restaurant that is on most of their ships, and it is not included. So it’s an additional fee. Right. But that’s that’s very similar to what you find on a lot of Royal Caribbean ships where certain restaurants are included. Others aren’t for sure. But I will just say the food at these that are included. And I’m sure what they’re serving in the main dining is mind blowing. But the food what they’re serving at these restaurants with these entertainment options. Seems phenomenal. Like I’ve never wanted to go on a Disney cruise as much as I want to go on the Disney treasure.
Chris 26:52
So I’ve got a good friend that I consider an expert. And she knows what she’s talking about on Disney cruises on on on all things Disney frankly, okay, is Jessie talking about Jessie a lot. She’s a wonderful source of information. And she just she’s done Disney cruises. She just recently did a Royal Caribbean cruise. And I believe I remember correctly. She’ll correct me if I’m wrong. That her take is that the food on a Disney cruise outpaces even the best food on
Kelli 27:28
Oh, yes. Yes. And that sort of that you can’t look at these menus. You and I’ve been on Royal Caribbean Cruises. I know what to expect on a Royal Caribbean cruise. You can’t look at these menus and think otherwise. Okay, no, it looks phenomenal. Well,
Chris 27:45
then we’ll we’ll do that. That’d be our 20 have told
Kelli 27:48
you we have to have conversation about that.
Chris 27:53
We just did. Speaking of food and doing a food to you don’t really want to
Kelli 28:03
react if reality is I told you this topic. I said hey, you’re doing this topic.
Chris 28:09
And I’m doing it there. Yeah. Because it was my decision to agree with you.
Kelli 28:13
Oh my gosh.
Chris 28:14
In 1970s and 1976, United Airlines was replaced as the title sponsor of the Enchanted Tiki Room. Okay, who replaced United Airlines dove as in dough pineapple.
Kelli 28:33
Okay. Which makes so much more sense than United Airlines. Honestly. Sure. That was That was horrible sponsorship right
Chris 28:40
away. Dough pineapple products could be purchased in Adventure Land. Make sense? Then, in 1983 dole took over the sponsorship of the same attraction at Walt Disney World at the Magic Kingdom. Also in 1983, a landmark year in world history 1983 1983. That’s what I meant to say. It’s what I said. I’m sure it’s a
Kelli 29:08
landmark year.
Chris 29:10
At the dole Technical Center in San Jose, California. The dough whip was invented by food scientists Kathy Westfall. The world would never be the same. Wow, Kathy
Kelli 29:24
was a food scientist in 1983. Yeah, bless her.
Chris 29:28
I didn’t know they let women have jobs. I didn’t either. And since and since July 18, is National Dole Whip day. So mark your calendars people
Kelli 29:43
July 18, July 18. We’re gonna celebrate Kathy, we are celebrating
Chris 29:47
Kathie Westfall that on sung hero and American it wasn’t
Kelli 29:52
just a woman with a job. She was a woman who was a scientist.
Chris 29:56
They let her be educated.
Kelli 29:57
I was about to say I really honestly did not know. That’s brilliant.
Chris 30:03
Here are some fun things to know about the Dole Whip. It debuted at the Magic Kingdom in 1984. One year after Kathy invented it here, I don’t even think it took a whole year because it was it was fairly exclusive to Disney for a long, long time. Okay. Then it launched at Disney land in 1986. Dole pineapple soft serve eventually became available in stores throughout the country, but the dough whip was exclusive to Disney parks and the Dole Plantation on a wahoo
Kelli 30:42
Now that’s interesting. Yeah, yep. So
Chris 30:45
you get into the Disney parks or the Dole Plantation plantation Okay. Until 2023 It became available in some retail outlets No, I did not they sell it at the high V. high V Okay great.
Kelli 30:59
You brought it home I didn’t bring it home you weren’t interested in it. You were like oh Lord.
Chris 31:03
Oh whoops. Voice again it’s
Kelli 31:08
what all husband sound like
Chris 31:12
oh boy, what if I don’t do all the work
please have it a whole show all by yourself. Technically, adult whip is only the delicious softserve sold in a cup
Kelli 31:32
that wanted to have a sold a cup of tea
Chris 31:39
it’s sold as seems that most people also refer to the pineapple float. As well as a Dole whip or a Dole Whip float.
Kelli 31:49
They do call it a Dole Whip float in the parks. They
Chris 31:51
do not they most certainly do. Call it a day while I’m talking about these other bullet points. I want you to pull up the menu for Aloha IO and look for Dole Whip float. You’re not going to find it you’re going to find pineapple float. That’s interesting because I looked it up. That’s you know also I’m looking I’m looking up above your head and in my line of sight is a sign that says Aloha our refreshments. What a delightful little room we do this in.
Kelli 32:17
It isn’t the rightful room.
Chris 32:20
Let’s see. Dough whip is a pineapple soft serve that is vegan, lactose free, gluten free and cholesterol free. It’s made from a pineapple flavored dry mix that’s mixed with cold water and poured into the soft serve machine. The dry mix contains ingredients like sugar, coconut oil, citric acid and natural flavors. And it has a shelf life of 18 months. Wow. Yeah. It doesn’t last 18 months at Disney they go through that stuff man.
Kelli 32:49
I mean it makes me think a little less of the dole whip to know that it’s that heavily manufactured in process it was it was a scientist but I did know I did know that it wasn’t actually ice cream. It’s it’s it tastes more of like a like a Orange Julius.
Chris 33:09
Wow. Taking this ride back to the mall in 1983. A little bit little bit not not like a sorbet or a server or whatever. It’s different than that. It really is somewhat like a slightly more solid Orange Julius more solid Orange Julius that’s what it is. If you don’t know what Orange Julius is, I’m sorry. Sorry. You missed out.
Kelli 33:37
You didn’t go to the mall in the 80s No,
Chris 33:39
a slim mall in Charlotte was chock a block full of the Orange Julius dough whip comes in many flavors including pineapple, orange, strawberry, raspberry, mango, lemon, lime, cherry and watermelon. Also know that they have vanilla flavor and a coconut flavor that I’ve had in the past. The fruit flavors are vegan, but the vanilla flavor contains dairy and is not vegan. Okay. A single serving of dough whip is 90 calories. Pretty good. Yeah, I
Kelli 34:12
don’t I knew they weren’t that bad for you.
Chris 34:14
What’s your favorite Dole Whip you’ve ever had? I know which one it is.
Kelli 34:20
It’s the cherry one with the cake pop that sticks out. It’s cherry and pistachio cherry
Chris 34:25
pistachio.
Kelli 34:26
So good. You had it as a float to Disney. It’s a float. Yeah, it’s a float and only during the holidays.
Chris 34:32
I prefer like the orange and vanilla or coconut oil and the pineapple and coconut swirl or the I like the orange and cream. But I don’t like orange creamsicle though I don’t like orange creamsicle but I do like the orange and vanilla swirl. It’s not my favorite though. I’ll get to my favorite later. Okay, all right. Dough whip can be served in many different ways on its own and a float or other creations like get this done. Oh whip nachos? Yes. Just wait,
Kelli 35:05
no.
Chris 35:06
Well you got the wrong you got the wrong impression say dough whip nachos is made with waffle cone chips.
Kelli 35:16
Okay, it’s a dessert.
Chris 35:17
Ah yeah see?
Kelli 35:19
I thought you were sprinkling the powder that we just learned about on the chips.
Chris 35:23
Wow, that was a leap that you shouldn’t took. Don’t work nachos are made well waffle cone chips, Mango boba pearls, the bug Pro, pineapple strawberry sauce, whipped cream and sprinkles.
Kelli 35:37
You know Disney heads up more Baba more boba more but less can cussing.
Chris 35:45
You can find the dole whip at various locations around Disney theme parks including Aloha aisle like our little sign in our basement says yep. Aloha I’ll in the Magic Kingdom, the refreshment outpost at Epcot and trilobites at the animal kingdom but where’s our favorite place for a Dole Whip? It also has our favorite serving recommendation Nepali at the Pali at the London at the pineapple Lanai and Apple Lanai right outside the lobby.
Kelli 36:12
That’s where they test new new flavors. Flavors What
Chris 36:15
else do they do there? They add some rum they put dark rum in it if you want it
Kelli 36:21
if you want it who ordered?
Chris 36:23
I mean give it to the kids right they go sleep like a baby yeah don’t do that
Kelli 36:31
look you do you there’s no judgment here judgment you’re saying yes absolutely go get it at the pineapple and I at the Pali because it is spot on.
Chris 36:39
Grab it there. They’ll put some dark rum on there you go. Find you. On the ball. Yeah, it’s
Kelli 36:45
in it’s a to go like
Chris 36:49
souvenir serving customer serving vessel. Yes. Yes. Right. You grab it. Did you dark rum in there. Say go ahead. Hit it up again, if you want to. I think go sit on the beach. Watch some fireworks, man. Get your living. It’s a
Kelli 37:02
good time. And that’s only probably like 200 calories or so.
Chris 37:06
I think that’s right.
Kelli 37:07
I mean, you probably losing weight by eating it essentially. Probably burning more calories.
Chris 37:12
I think it does because it’s also fruit. Oh, gosh, I
Kelli 37:15
forgot about it. Be afraid. Right? Right.
Chris 37:17
Okay, now, at the Disney Parks they’re celebrating July 18 by selling a pineapple upside down cake with dough whip. which just sounds amazing. If you go to the Disney Parks blog, you can find a recipe for the pineapple upside down cake and a dough whip that you can make at home. This is not the dole whip you buy in the park. This is just something similar to the powder. It’s effectively a pineapple shake, but I’m gonna give it to you real quick press pause, go grab your pen and paper. I’m gonna give you the recipe real quick for the for the dough whip part. All you need is a half to three quarter cup of pineapple juice divided because you’re gonna see why don’t dole pineapple juice. Two cups of frozen pineapple chunks dough pineapple and one cup of dairy free vanilla ice cream. Put all the ingredients in a blender blend till smooth Oz says Do not over blend in it’s too thick. Just add tablespoon of pineapple juice at a time until it comes to consistency you like scoop and serve immediately.
Kelli 38:31
Are you making us those on the 18th?
Chris 38:33
I am I might make them before the 18th
Kelli 38:38
All right.
Chris 38:39
That’s like so much information about the dole whip you can go make one now because I know you paused and you got your notepad out
Kelli 38:45
I really think we should be celebrating Kathy a little bit
Chris 38:47
more I think has that Kathy Westfall changed the world
Kelli 38:51
he’s an unsung hero
Chris 38:52
he is yet another woman unsung hero
Kelli 38:56
