Superca, Superca, whatever the internal thing is.
Chris 0:08
Hello, out there, everybody! Welcome back. You found us once again on the supercalifragilistic, awesome Disney podcast. My name is Chris, and I’m
Kelli 0:16
Kelli.
Chris 0:16
We are so excited to be here. You’re excited to be here.
Kelli 0:19
I’m super excited to be here, I’m wearing ears that I genuinely hate. They’re 1000
Chris 0:25
pounds.
Kelli 0:25
They are 1000 pounds, and they have these like teeth that that grip into your head. Uh huh.
Chris 0:31
Super tight band.
Kelli 0:33
Super tight band. So what I want everybody to know is that I’m really suffering. Suffering through. I’m taking one for the team. Well, those are in order to wear ears that are on topic.
Chris 0:42
Okay, all right.
Kelli 0:43
I considered wearing topic adjacent ears because I didn’t want to suffer. But I was like, you know what? I’m gonna take one. I’m gonna take one. Suffer from the pod.
Chris 0:51
That’s right. So these are
Kelli 0:53
French macaroons. They’re
Chris 0:54
macarons, yes.
Kelli 0:55
Ears, and they are heavy and pokey, and you know, if blood starts streaming down my face, I’m sorry.
Chris 1:04
Flames, flames. Well, thank you. We we all appreciate
Chris 1:10
it. Did anybody listen to it? You give, give,
Chris 1:12
give, never take. I
Kelli 1:13
do. Yes,
Chris 1:14
they did. We had downloads from McKeesport, Pennsylvania, slightly southeast of Pittsburgh, they are known as the Tube City, because during the American industrial boom, it was home to the massive U.S. Steel National Tube plant.
Kelli 1:32
So,
Chris 1:32
lots of steel tubing came out of McKeesport, PA, and we’re grateful for them, not just for listening to our podcast. Right, go steal tubing, Winder, Georgia. I’m assuming it’s not Winder, Georgia. I’m gonna say Winder, Georgia. Okay.
Chris 1:45
40 minutes west of Athens. Okay. So there’s a TV show starring Sylvester Stallone called Tulsa King. It’s been fairly popular, I guess. Can’t remember if it’s Prime or Paramount or wherever, but they film in Atlanta, even though it’s about Tulsa,
Kelli 2:01
okay.
Chris 2:02
Well, earlier this year, they did some shoots in Winder, Georgia, and everybody was all a tizzy about it.
Kelli 2:09
Well, that’s cool. That is good for
Chris 2:11
them. Good for Winder, Georgia.
Kelli 2:12
Good for Winder, Georgia. And then
Chris 2:15
we had downloads from Falkenstein, Germany. Now, Falkenstein. Falkenstein. No, no. It’s
Kelli 2:20
fun to say. It is fun to say. That’s why I
Chris 2:22
put it on here. It said southeastern Germany. Here’s why I brought it on here. Last week we talked about Saxy, Texas, and how the folks from Saxony, Germany, settled there. Right, Falkenstein is in Saxony, Germany.
Kelli 2:37
Wow. So full circle. It’s a full circle moment
Chris 2:41
right here on the on the on the pod. You’re gonna be saying that all weekend. All right. So on to Main Street is where we talk about some news. wasn’t heavy news week or anything, but the Oriental Land Company Limited. Now this is who runs Disney Japan.
Kelli 3:01
Okay. Right. Right. I think you mentioned that before. Yeah,
Chris 3:02
they’re literally a separate company, but they they’re very tight with Walt Disney. They announced in 2024 that they were launching their own Disney Cruise Line called Disney Cruise Line Japan.
Kelli 3:16
Okay,
Chris 3:16
okay. But on July 30th of this year, just a few days ago, we we got financials that were released that shed some light on the costs and itineraries and things of that nature. Not a lot of details, but what I found interesting was that the first ship is going to be modeled after the Disney Wish. So these Wish class ships, which were larger, yes, right. So they’re not, you know, they they skipped over all the magic class ships, and we just they were just going bigger. Go big or
Kelli 3:46
go home. That’s right. That’s right.
Chris 3:48
Except they are short cruises, so those aren’t big. So these are like they’re targeting two to four nights, departing and returning from Tokyo International Cruise Terminal.
Kelli 3:56
Okay.
Chris 3:57
And the price is expected to be like 600 to $1,800.
Kelli 4:01
Oh, that’s interesting. Yeah, two nights, a two night cruise. I mean, you barely get on the boats. Where are they going?
Chris 4:07
Probably not far. I guess. I guess the big circle. We’re just going. We’re hitting border coastal towns in Japan. I guess
Kelli 4:14
two nights. That’s not long enough.
Chris 4:16
That’s not long enough. Four nights, I’d go for.
Kelli 4:18
For sure, and I’ve heard of three, but a two-night cruise-that feels really short.
Chris 4:24
It’s real short. I hope that’s in the low price,
Kelli 4:27
right?
Chris 4:29
Folks online, the Dis Twitter and and all that online are just all up in arms over the new solar-powered smart trash cans that have landed at Walt Disney World. You know we love our trash cans.
Kelli 4:45
We do love a good trash can. These are not
Chris 4:47
quite as technologically advanced as push.
Kelli 4:49
We we eat on the trash cans. We’ll go do a whole segment on push one
Chris 4:54
day. We do. On
Kelli 4:55
trash cans. That was literally
Chris 4:57
one of the debate topics. Was will the new trash. Make good tables,
Kelli 5:01
right? That’s the question. Is the the top flat enough?
Chris 5:04
Yeah. The big enough
Kelli 5:05
is it flat? It appears to
Chris 5:06
be to me, but I mean, I haven’t been in front of them. Also, were they going to be decorated? Are they going to be you know themed for where they are? Because that’s a big deal. Right. Right.
Kelli 5:15
So wait, these are solar powered.
Chris 5:16
Solar powered automated trash cans. They’re they’re like you see them at Chick Fil A where they com they compress the garbage actually
Kelli 5:24
touch that you like it opens the door when your hand gets close kind of a I
Chris 5:28
don’t know about that but maybe we’ll see okay well so then that it should do that and then it presses all the garbage down right so these first debuted in the Germany pavilion at Epcot I wonder who makes that decision we got we got all of Walt Disney World to test these. I wonder if
Kelli 5:43
that’s the trashiest pavilion. I mean, like if if they collect more trash in Germany than they do in other pavilions. I
Chris 5:50
wonder. I mean, they would know legit. Like they would know why Germany to
Kelli 5:55
test this, and they were specific about that. They were just draw the name out of a hat. Exactly. You know, exactly. And
Chris 6:00
then they and then like expanded it, and when they expanded it, they just put more in Germany.
Kelli 6:04
See what I’m saying?
Chris 6:04
And then they went on to like the Germans got a
Kelli 6:07
real trash problem. Then they Germany’s got a real trash problem, and they’re like, you know what? What we we are not disparaging the German people here, pushing the trash down. They went
Chris 6:20
straight to France. Let’s
Kelli 6:21
go Germany. And I after that
Chris 6:22
they went to France. And I bet they did this just like always find that people eat more stuff on the go in Germany and France.
Kelli 6:30
Probably, yeah. That pretzel,
Chris 6:32
that pretzel bread pudding, and the and the big pretzel and the beer.
Kelli 6:35
Yeah, no, there’s no bakery in Germany. The caramel couche. Oh yeah, the caramel couche, right? Yeah. See, that’s what I’m saying. They’ve got the best bakery next to France, right? So the the world. You go catch some
Chris 6:47
heat about that. The pavilions
Kelli 6:48
with the two best bakeries.
Chris 6:50
You go catch some heat because some people are going to come at you with Norway with the Norway school bread. Yeah,
Kelli 6:55
whatever. Don’t let them get come at me. Don’t let them get on you, huh? I am not accepting feedback today. That’s part of my segment.
Chris 7:01
This is expected to free custodial cast members to focus on quote what matters most, while showing them there was a video that showed them performing other parts of their jobs, like keeping walkways clear of trash. And here’s what’s cool: there are sensors now that will alert the custodial team when it needs to be, because before they were having to go by and check the trash and all that. They want to do that anymore. No,
Kelli 7:28
that’s great. Trash
Chris 7:29
can let them know I’m full. Come get me.
Kelli 7:31
That’s good. Right. That’s good.
Chris 7:33
We talked about Bakari the silverback last week. Yes. Okay. Well, he has officially made it through his acclimation period, and he can be seen out in their little area.
Kelli 7:43
And so he’s friends with with all the others. Appears to
Chris 7:45
be doing really now. Appears to be doing really well. They’ve
Kelli 7:48
decided he can be the leader.
Chris 7:50
He looks like a boss. Took a vote. Are we gonna keep Bakari, ladies? Are we gonna get him out? He seems nice.
Kelli 8:00
It’s probably
Chris 8:01
probably exactly how it went. All right. We didn’t talk about this ahead of time, but there it. So some folks videoed themselves at Hollywood Studios at the Backlot Express food area, and it has just sparked all sorts of debate on on the interwebs.
Kelli 8:21
Okay,
Chris 8:22
a Bible study at Disney. So this is just a group of ladies. They advertise themselves as you know, just if you want to come join us for a Bible study and have some you know have a snack, grab a grab a you know a soda or a drink or whatever. We’re going to talk about the Bible and then we’re gonna ride rides,
Kelli 8:41
okay.
Chris 8:42
And man, you can imagine people are
Kelli 8:45
upset
Chris 8:46
as there’s been back and forth, and I mean anything to do with religion is going to spark lots of debate.
Kelli 8:54
Sure, but I mean this would have to be people with like you know season passes.
Chris 8:58
That’s what that’s my experience. They live close. They’ve got season passes. They go to like Backlot Express, and they they sit over. They take up a few tables, and some people are like, “This is this is breaking Disney’s rules. But the I read the article about this, and based on the rules that it would that would apply to this, it actually doesn’t break any of their rules.
Kelli 9:22
What’s what? What would be the rule that they think if they were
Chris 9:25
if they were like prostatelizing or and they’re not really doing that? And if they were like commercial, trying to sell stuff, trying to get people to buy anything,
Kelli 9:39
they’re not.
Chris 9:40
They’re not, so
Kelli 9:41
they’re just using it like people use Starbucks. Hey, come, we’re gonna meet here every Tuesday. These are people that have
Chris 9:47
have you know annual pass money,
Kelli 9:50
and it’s fun to meet at Backlot Express.
Chris 9:52
And afterwards, we’re gonna go ride some rides. So you know, and people just you know they they they get weird about seeing. Religion in public anywhere, and it can be overdone for sure. But I mean, we’ve seen people, you know, praying in Morocco.
Kelli 10:08
Yeah, Morocco used to have a prayer room. Right. So we took a friend of ours who’s Muslim to Epcot for the first time. She had never been, and it was right after COVID. And we specifically went to Morocco to try and find the prayer room, so that she could do her midday prayers, and they had shut it down for COVID, which we were super disappointed about. I’m not upset that there is, you know, a Bible study happening at Disney. I think that that sounds fun, honestly. Right. But what I want to see is if another religion came in and did the same thing. That’s not Christian. Would they also be welcome? Be allowed to do whatever to do that. And or would the you know people who are all upset about Christians would they also be upset about that’s the other people? That’s what it. That’s what my
Chris 10:56
issue appears to. Free
Kelli 10:57
speech in this country, which includes freedom of religion, separation of church and state. That’s an open public place. If you pay to get in, you can totally do that, right? There’s no if there’s no rules against it. There’s no rules against what they’re doing. It appears to be what What’s important is that everyone is allowed to do it,
Chris 11:17
right?
Kelli 11:18
And we have the same rules for everyone,
Chris 11:20
right? By definition, they’re in the Backlot Express, the right restaurant. So they’re they’re not out on on you know in the on Rodeo Drive there in in Hollywood Studios doing their thing. So okay, so summer crowds are down, but they’ve been coming down. Yeah. Um. So so the some causes appear to be that this year in particular, they’re they’re actually down more this year than historically.
Kelli 11:47
Yeah.
Chris 11:48
They and they judge it by wait times, is what right? They they ran all sorts of data. There’s all sorts of charts and graphs.
Kelli 11:57
Yeah. Well, we were there just last year in July, and we felt like crowds were down. We did.
Chris 12:01
That’s right. Yep. Yeah.
Chris 12:02
No, there’s this year in particular. There’s no real newness draw this year. There’s a lot of talk about. There’s a lot of work being done at Walt Disney World, you know, with the New Villains Land and all this stuff. But there’s nothing major that’s new this year, and right to that people would have been planning their trip for, the Buzz Lightyear got an update, Big Thunder got an update, but those kinds of things aren’t enough to really cause people to. Oh, we we got to go right now to go see those things, right? If some parts of tropical Americas at Animal Kingdom gets opened up early enough next year, that might cause a rebound,
Kelli 12:44
right?
Chris 12:45
But it’s not really expected to open up until the fall of next year.
Kelli 12:50
Yeah.
Chris 12:50
So maybe we’ll see it again next year. The other big reason is it’s hot, like really, really hot, hotter than the average, even in Orlando. That seemed, according to the article I read, it seems to be getting worse and worse over the past few years. I agree.
Kelli 13:07
Climate change is a big.
Chris 13:10
So when
Kelli 13:12
we were there last year, we noticed very much a reduction in international guests. Yes, and I feel like that’s probably only gotten worse. I
Chris 13:22
would think that that’s only gotten worse. Continue
Kelli 13:24
with this administration, and so a lot of people right now don’t feel safe to travel to the U.S. To the U.S. That’s right. Even people within the U.S. may not feel safe to travel state-to-state through an
Chris 13:35
airport or whatever,
Kelli 13:37
especially international folks. Yep. And so I remember being there and noticing a significant reduction in the number of Asians you see. Yeah, there’s normally a lot of Asians in the park. We did not see a lot of Asians at all. I don’t talk about East Asians, but right now there’s a war going on or multiple wars happening. Yeah, that’s going to keep a lot of people from Asia from traveling. Yeah, but also people within the U.S. may not feel safe flying, going through airports, and things like that. So I’m not shocked. It’s
Chris 14:09
not surprising. It’s not surprising. There’s also no special offerings this year during the summer, like the Food and Wine Festival. It’s launching later, like it’s not launching until August, I think.
Kelli 14:17
Right.
Chris 14:18
So, so but slow summers have sort of been trending, and what I’m wondering is, you know, post COVID there was this pent up travel, you know, demand that kind of exploded after we got sort of felt freedom. Yeah, I wonder if that’s not going to happen because they’re they’re building all this new stuff at like the the Tropical Americas, Villains Land. A lot of new big things are coming. Monstropolis are coming, and I think that once we get closer to all that, we might see a big rush.
Kelli 14:49
Well, you also had a lot of push for the 50th anniversary, the 100th celebration. Right, it’s a it’s
Chris 14:55
a valley between two yeah between two. So they were really
Kelli 14:58
really pushing come. See the the special 50th decorations, 100th celebration, and all that. So again, not super surprising. No, no, it’s it’s a
Chris 15:07
lot of probably a lot of competing factors that are that create a valley here.
Kelli 15:11
Yeah, but I don’t think people realize how many international travelers come to Disney.
Chris 15:16
Or a lot less of those hold up my flag. Everybody wearing the same color shirt and travel impacts. Yeah. Well,
Kelli 15:22
also, we didn’t see a lot of like big, huge families wearing matching shirts, like family reunions and stuff. Yeah. You know, I mean, it’s just Disney draws a lot of international guests, and you know, I don’t think people take that into account when when they think about our our policies and stuff. Sure. You know, I’d say specifically the government in Florida. I don’t know that the government in Florida takes that into account, but whatever, you know, their tax dollar. That’s right. That’s right. Their revenues or lack thereof. Their revenues.
Chris 15:52
Well, that’s the news.
Kelli 15:53
Okay.
Chris 15:54
That’s all the Main Street’s got. So guess who’s got Tomorrowland? Can you guess? Can you guess? I
Kelli 15:58
think it’s you.
Chris 15:59
It’s me.
Kelli 15:59
Yes.
Chris 16:00
It’s me. All right, so crazy to think, but literally the week this podcast comes out, Friday following this podcast release, the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party kicks off, and they kick this off in August every year. But what’s craziest to me is that we’re gonna get this thing from august 7 through august 31 or through Halloween night, and then the next morning, all the Christmas stuff is gonna be up. Yeah, it’s wild to me. It is magical. Yeah, can’t wait to watch it on some channel that’ll show it. So I got just headlines on pricing around the. So we’re going to talk about the the food guide, like the the festival treats. Now this is a teaser because we’re planning to do a full on episode, bonus episode, where we talk about everything. Because man, they pulled out all the stops. There is so much food. It just reminds me all the time that when Disney does something like this, they very rarely skimp.
Kelli 17:05
Yeah,
Chris 17:05
they are not skimping on the food that’s available during the Halloween party.
Kelli 17:09
Well, these parties are not cheap.
Chris 17:11
They’re not cheap. They’re not. Yes. And so
Kelli 17:12
you know, when people pay extra like that for something, they want they want to feel like they got it.
Chris 17:17
They got something real, right? Yeah. Speaking of pay, now I wasn’t able to find pricing for this year, and we know that year-over-year prices for everything are higher for lots of different reasons. But I did see Caitlin Rifestack’s reviews from last year’s party, the food costs, and so for small treats and pastries last year it was like between $6 and $7.30 for those. For specialty drinks and slushies, it was like $6.30 to $7. For savory snacks, snacks it was like $8.80 to 1350, and then for entrees and plated items like at sit down restaurants or counter service places, it could be $9 or higher.
Kelli 18:04
So you’re paying to get into the park, and then the treats are are extra. I guess I thought the treats came with
Chris 18:10
no, no. I mean, it’s not like the Christmas party where you can go to this certain place and get a cookie. Right, right. These are these are. Not at the
Kelli 18:17
not so scary. You went around and like got you do get cane trick or treat. Okay, you do trick
Chris 18:21
or treat still. That’s still a thing. This is just like this is like the special food that they have put in their various restaurants. Yes, yes, very much like a festival. Okay, all
Kelli 18:32
right.
Chris 18:32
So we’re going to talk about about 10 different items, but believe me when I tell you, we’re not even scratching the surface. Right. Yeah. Okay.
Kelli 18:39
No, the menu is four pages long, single space, front and back.
Chris 18:47
Yeah. So here we go. We’re going to we’re going to start. We’re going to go land by land here, right? We’re starting on Main Street USA, and we’re going to hit Casey’s Corner. Now, here’s the thing about what Casey’s does. They’ve got they’ve got loaded French fries, a hot dog, or you can get their mini corn dogs, which people love, and any one of those three things will be topped with a chipotle, barbecue pork, and street corn. So you’re talking about fire roasted corn, queso fresco, jalapeno ranch, and cilantro.
Kelli 19:19
Okay, that’s fine. Either on
Chris 19:20
fries, on a hot dog, or on their mini corn dogs. Okay, that’s cool. So that is awesome. But then Casey’s, you know, they usually have that little baseball sweet treat thing. Oh,
Kelli 19:31
it’s so good. It is
Chris 19:32
good.
Kelli 19:32
Oh my goodness, those are good.
Chris 19:33
Really surprisingly good. Well, this year for the party, they’re they’re offering the headless horseman treat. Now, when we do the full-on episode, I’m gonna say a bunch of these words over and over and over again. Pumpkin and cheesecake, in particular. Okay. This headless horseman treat is a pumpkin pie tart with whipped cheesecake, spiced caramel panacotta, candied pecans, and the marshmallow buttercream flames. As well as some sort of little buttercream, like pumpkin that you know that Heather Horseman throws.
Kelli 20:07
Right.
Chris 20:08
That’s also on top of the star. So we’re
Kelli 20:09
eating his head.
Chris 20:10
We’re eating a tart with his head decoration on
Kelli 20:14
it. Okay. I’m thinking like you’re talking about like the baseball, and I’m thinking, is this in the shape of his head? No, this is a tart. Okay, it’s a it’s a round tart. Yes. Okay. Think
Chris 20:23
think you know like bake off tart. It’s a it’s a legit tart. Yeah. All right. So then over at the Plaza Restaurant, I’m not doing a lot of the sit down places because people are much more likely to hit the counter service or the snacks. But in particular, the Plaza Restaurant, as one of their desserts, has a phantom pecan caramel cheesecake. Now this thing is is got a layer of it’s all sits on a chocolate crust, and then it’s got a layer of like New York cheesecake.
Kelli 20:53
Okay, but then
Chris 20:54
on top of that, there’s a layer of caramel cheesecake, and it’s dotted with like dulce de leche inside
Kelli 21:03
it. Wow!
Chris 21:04
And then it’s decorated with chocolate ganache and pecans on top.
Kelli 21:07
Man, it
Chris 21:08
looks so good.
Kelli 21:10
I mean, I
Chris 21:11
would just go in there, sit down, and can I just have the the new little phantom pecan cheesecake, please?
Kelli 21:16
Again, don’t
Chris 21:17
you want the skull meatloaf? No, I would just have
Kelli 21:20
the skull meat loaf.
Chris 21:23
Just wait.
Kelli 21:24
Just wait. Oh, that’s awesome.
Chris 21:27
My um, my computer is having to catch up here. Okay. Oh my gosh. So sorry. Okay, over at Cosmic Starlight, Cosmic Rays, we’re moving over to Tomorrowland. These are these are the rare folks that go in and then they turn right and they go to Tomorrowland. It’s the way everybody else goes. Right.
Chris 21:48
Cosmic Rays is offering. This is just for the party. Some of these things you can get during the day, but this is just for the party. Fangtastic garlic butter burger. This is Angus beef and Borsen and brie fondue.
Kelli 22:03
Oh dear God!
Chris 22:04
I know crispy onions, garlic pickles, all on a toasted jet black bun.
Kelli 22:11
Oh gee!
Chris 22:13
And they serve that with fries. I
Kelli 22:15
mean, that’s special.
Chris 22:16
That is. I mean, I always worry about the the like buns that aren’t bun colored,
Kelli 22:22
yeah. Like, are they done? It’s hard. It’s hard to know if that bap
Chris 22:26
is done. Actually, if that bap is done, I really wasn’t so much worried about the the doneness in this case. Is what are we doing to make it black?
Kelli 22:37
Yeah,
Chris 22:39
because there’s another one layer. All right, then over at Fryers Friars Nook, they are serving something called the bowl of bones. This looks awesome.
Chris 22:50
Okay, these
Chris 22:51
are pork wings, right? So wings are chicken, right? So they are actually making these. They’re wrapping these
Kelli 23:00
like a pig
Chris 23:00
bones with pork, so that they look like wings.
Kelli 23:04
Okay. Okay,
Chris 23:05
and then they’re frying them with jalapenos, and they are covering them with a barbecue sauce that’s made with cherry
Kelli 23:14
coke. What What’s the bone?
Chris 23:15
You missed. I don’t. I don’t know. That’s. I thought you’d be all for the barbecue sauce made with cherry coke, I don’t know. I don’t know what the bone
Kelli 23:25
is. Oh gosh, I know, but it stopped as much in our tracks. Something that’s like a bone, and they’re wrapping pork around it and then frying it to make it look like a wing, like
Chris 23:34
a chicken wing,
Kelli 23:35
and dipping that in barbecue sauce made with cherry cola,
Chris 23:38
and and and then they also put fried jalapenos on top of that. There’s a
Kelli 23:42
lot going on there. It’s
Chris 23:43
a lot. It’s a lot to unpack.
Kelli 23:44
That’s a lot. A lot
Chris 23:45
to unpack there.
Kelli 23:45
There.
Chris 23:46
They’re also serving along with some other things. They’re serving a not so poison apple donut. So these are really donut holes.
Kelli 23:54
Okay. That
Chris 23:55
they that they toss in apple cider sugar, which is very underrated, and
Chris 23:59
then they drizzle all of it with caramel.
Kelli 24:02
Nice.
Chris 24:03
Yeah, it is. Yes, it’s nice. I’ll
Kelli 24:05
take that.
Chris 24:06
I mean, Fantasyland has got so much stuff. Just wait. Okay. Just wait. All right. All right. So Liberty Square. We’re moving over to Liberty Square. Lots of good things in Liberty Square, but we’re going to talk about Sleepy Hollow because Sleepy Hollow always brings it. They bring it. Yes. Yes. Yes. So in this case, they’ve got the Doom Buggy dumplings. So these are chicken dumplings with a red miso gochujang sauce.
Kelli 24:31
Oh, gochujang is very underrated. Very
Chris 24:34
underrated.
Kelli 24:34
Yeah,
Chris 24:35
and with and also furikaki. I don’t know what that
Kelli 24:39
is. Okay, that’s just
Chris 24:40
F U R I K A K E Obs.
Kelli 24:44
No idea. No, that that helped not at all. And
Chris 24:49
chili threads. These are like chili peppers that they have. They have. I’m gonna say julienne, but that’s not. It’s so thin and stringy. It just looks like a almost like a. A little web of red spider web on top, but it’s made with chili.
Kelli 25:05
Wow,
Chris 25:05
with chilies, I guess. It looks awesome.
Kelli 25:09
It
Chris 25:09
looks. I’m. I’m. I’m literally.
Kelli 25:11
Yeah, I can tell you. You needed to eat before we. I know.
Chris 25:15
Then they have the graveyard hot chicken and waffle. Okay, they they’re big on chicken and waffles. They’re still at Sleepy Hollow, yes. And these these are only for during the party. Okay, this is Nashville hot chicken strips on a blue corn cornmeal waffle. Oh, that’s
Kelli 25:31
fun.
Chris 25:32
It is. It looks and basic, but again, it basically looks like a black waffle. Yeah. Right. But I know what they made this out of. It’s blue cornmeal. Right. Okay. And then black map. Oh no. about that black bap, and it’s drizzled with pickle ranch. Oh, I mean, they could have just gone with ranch, you know. But they’re like, no, no, no, no, needs to be a little bit of dill in here.
Kelli 25:53
Pickle ranch. All right. No, I like where the heads at. I do
Chris 25:56
too. I do too. Okay, we’re getting close here. Frontierland. They are offering up the cursed cowboy fries.
Kelli 26:05
Okay,
Chris 26:06
these are sweet potato fries topped with burn ends.
Kelli 26:11
Oh my goodness!
Chris 26:13
Chipotle queso, pico, and crispy jalapenos.
Kelli 26:17
I think I’ve asked you before what a burnt end is, and you told me I didn’t want to know. I don’t want to know, do I?
Chris 26:23
You don’t.
Kelli 26:24
Okay, don’t tell me.
Chris 26:25
Okay.
Kelli 26:25
Okay. This is like the fourth time we’ve
Chris 26:27
had that exact conversation.
Kelli 26:29
Okay. I don’t want to know what a burnt. But it pretty much describes
Chris 26:32
what
Kelli 26:32
it is. A burnt end. Yeah. It’s the end of something that is in fact burned. They
Chris 26:37
were they were making something, and the end of it burned. Dirt burned. Gets by design because it’s smaller than the rest of whatever they’re cooking, so they just cut the burn in off. Okay, they give you those. Oh my gosh, stop! Just stop. Okay, all right, last one here that we’re going to talk about on this teaser. This is a teaser, a 10 minute teaser. I know over at the Golden Oak Outpost. This is also going to be available only during the party. Golden Oak Outpost does some good things. That’s where you typically get your beignets. Okay.
Kelli 27:07
Okay. I was thinking that’s where you get fries.
Chris 27:10
Way back in the day, that’s where McDonald’s actually sold fries. Yeah,
Kelli 27:15
yeah, yeah. Okay. All right. But
Chris 27:16
they do. You can go and get your beignets now. But during this party, they’re gonna serve Cajun crawfish and sausage
Kelli 27:28
poutine. Oh goodness me!
Chris 27:31
I mean, I like a poutine anyway. Carafish
Kelli 27:33
and sausage poutine. This is
Chris 27:37
waffle fries topped with cheese curds and a Cajun crawfish and dewy sausage gravy. Shut up! That nothing has ever spoken in my heart harder than those words strung together. Let’s do it again. Waffle fries topped with cheese curds and a Cajun crawfish and dewy sausage gravy. Lamb, I’m so excited to have dinner tonight.
Kelli 28:11
How do you feel about those waffle fries, though? That’s not your typical. That’s not my typical.
Chris 28:15
But you know, we got a place here in town that makes poutine, and they do a mix of waffle and you know your regular fries, and you’re okay with it. I’m good with it. Okay, I’d rather it be what they’re doing over there at Les at Lesellier, but I’m I’m I’ll suffer through. Okay,
Kelli 28:31
all right, all right.
Chris 28:32
So that’s my that’s my Tomorrowland. You’re welcome. That’s a teaser for a a bonus episode already. We’re doing bonus episodes. So
Kelli 28:40
the not so scary party.
Chris 28:41
That’s right.
Kelli 28:42
All right, let’s do World Showcase. So I’ve got World Showcase this week, and here’s where we talk about things that we have done and we loved. And so this week on August the second, it is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day, and you know how I love to take a good National Day, and then see what we how we ought to celebrate that at Disney. It’s one of my favorite things to do here on the pod, and especially when it’s food related. And so what I’m going to do is I’m going to tell you the top five ice cream sandwiches at Disney World and where to get them. Okay, top five ice
Kelli 29:17
cream sandwiches.
Chris 29:18
That’s Disney World, right? Okay.
Kelli 29:20
So first of all, I need to address a couple of things. You used to be able to get an ice cream sandwich at Hollywood Scoops, right across from the Fantasmic Theater, right there in Hollywood Studios. You could go over there, pick your cookie, pick your flavor, and get a sandwich. Now they don’t do that anymore. They do have some interesting stuff, and occasionally they’ll have like a special sandwich, but they don’t do that particular thing anymore, which I think is a huge mistake. It was one of my favorite places to get a sandwich. So also, there’s another one that’s not going to make this list, and I just want to take a minute to kick it in the teeth. This one is at.
Chris 30:00
Really,
Kelli 30:00
the gelateria Toscana in Epcot. Yeah. Okay. So shocking, absolutely no one. Epcot has a dessert that is both overpriced and not good.
Chris 30:12
Oh. Right. Oh, because it’s in Italy.
Kelli 30:14
Because it’s in Italy. Oh yes. Yes. Okay. Okay. So this is a cookie sandwich. It’s a homemade cookie with vanilla gelato. It says that vanilla gelato. Let’s get super duper plain. Don’t give me options for any of your other gelato flavors. Give me your basic cookie with some vanilla gelato, and it is $12 in the. This is a real
Chris 30:35
thing that is served now in the
Kelli 30:36
Italian pavilion at the gelato. But it’s trashed, so we
Chris 30:39
just we’re gonna take a top five list, but take a second to trash one. I want to trash that one real quick because it’s
Kelli 30:45
overpriced and it’s not good, and it’s in Italy, shocking no one. I
Chris 30:51
love your pettiness. Don’t
Kelli 30:52
don’t buy it. Also, another note before we get started with the list here: we’re not rating the Mickey ice cream sandwich that you can get at the carts. Okay, yeah, that’s fair. Okay, man, it’s $6.49, but I can get that up at the high V.
Chris 31:06
Right.
Kelli 31:06
So we’re not going to rate that. These are things that you can only get in the parks, right? Okay. So number five. This is the macaron or macaroon.
Chris 31:19
Macaron.
Kelli 31:20
Macaron ice cream sandwich at Les Ardesign des Glaces. Now, where
Chris 31:25
is
Kelli 31:25
it? Les Ardesign des Glaces. Now, I know you’re thinking Kelli doesn’t like something from France, and let me tell you why. Here’s the issue with it: it is way, but
Chris 31:36
it’s one of your top fives.
Kelli 31:38
It’s number five. It’s way too small.
Chris 31:42
It is way smaller than you think it’s going to be. Way
Kelli 31:45
too small. It’s also very difficult to eat that as an ice cream sandwich because the macarons just just crush, right? They’re crispy. But they keep them frozen. These are pre-made. You’re not picking out your macaroon and picking out your ice cream flavor. Okay. You’ve got a few different options, and they keep these things deep frozen. It is hard as a rock.
Chris 32:04
Okay, okay. To
Kelli 32:05
eat like hurts your teeth trying to eat a piece of ice is what it feels like, and it’s too tiny. So very disappointing. Now you’re going to see that on their menu, and you’re going to think, “Wow, 895. I’m going to do that. That’s a that’s a great thing. No, not a good value.
Chris 32:20
Okay.
Kelli 32:21
Not a good value. It’s too hard to eat.
Chris 32:23
Okay.
Kelli 32:24
It’s too tiny.
Chris 32:25
Okay.
Kelli 32:25
Do not zero. I would say zero stars. Zero stars. Do not recommend. Okay. But this is number five on the list. This
Chris 32:32
is wow. I thought five would be like five out of a bunch of good ones, but no, this is like five sucks.
Kelli 32:37
Five isn’t great, but I’ve had it.
Chris 32:39
All right. Okay.
Kelli 32:40
I made the mistake. I’m trying to save you. Number four, the Plaza ice cream parlor. Now this one’s classic. Okay, this is in Magic Kingdom on Main Street. You can build your own, right? Which sounds again lovely. You get one cookie. It’s a chocolate chip cookie. Okay, I mean you get it as a sandwich, right? You get two, but you don’t get to pick your cookie flavor.
Chris 33:00
Oh,
Kelli 33:00
you’re getting this on a chocolate chip cookie, and they only have five flavors of ice cream, which is disappointing. That is
Chris 33:07
disappointing.
Kelli 33:08
Yeah, so you got vanilla ice cream, strawberry cookies and cream, chocolate and mint chocolate chip. And how many of those
Chris 33:15
are really going to have on the chocolate chip cookies? Right, that’s what I’m
Kelli 33:17
saying. So, so it’s it’s not great. Now I’ve seen you know we’ve all seen Plaza Ice Cream Parlor overrun with people lines out the door right before the
Chris 33:27
fireworks.
Kelli 33:27
I get it. It’s a disaster. They need to do some things to speed up. I totally get that. But that’s why this is number four. It’s a good cookie. It’s a good value, and it’s huge. It’s shareable if you feel nice, but it is it is there’s not enough options to make it higher than four. Okay, now it’s 749, good value, significantly larger than the macaron in France, significantly larger. But the lack of variety and flavors and cookies is going to keep them out of the top three. That’s just that’s just the way that is. Okay, fair enough. But look, after a long hot day at Magic Kingdom, you’re not going to be disappointed. Right, you’re going to eat it all. Okay, I just want to be clear with that. Now, when they used to have ice cream sandwiches at the Magic Main Street Bakery, you got to pick any cookie in the bakery to do that. So it’s a bit of a downgrade.
Chris 34:16
It’s a bit of a downgrade. But
Kelli 34:17
again, right, you’re not going to be disappointed. Now, number three, here’s where we get into the good stuff. Oh,
Chris 34:22
good.
Kelli 34:22
Okay, the funnel cake stand in the American Pavilion at Epcot.
Chris 34:27
Oh,
Kelli 34:27
now they only do this really during special events.
Chris 34:31
Okay, they’ll
Kelli 34:32
have a special ice cream sandwich made out of funnel cakes, but when they have it, you need to jump on it. So the one that they had this year at the Festival of the Arts was a wild berry funnel cake. This was 1250. It was a funnel cake sandwich with vanilla ice cream, powdered sugar, topped with brown sugar, brandy, wild berry compote. I love a good compote. You do whipped cream and dark chocolate sauce. Come on. You see what I’m saying?
Chris 35:01
Yeah, I do. Like,
Kelli 35:02
don’t sleep on that. No, don’t sleep on that. It’s
Chris 35:04
not a traditional cookie,
Kelli 35:06
but sandwich, ice cream sandwich. Nobody said it had to be a cookie. Fair ice cream sandwich. That’s a good. It’s ice cream sandwich. Nobody said cookie. Okay. Now, if the funnel cake stand doesn’t have one, right? Like, just they don’t have one. There’s a new ice cream sandwich option at the Japan Pavilion. You can go into ooh that thing’s
Chris 35:28
popular
Kelli 35:29
Mitsukoshi kiosk, and it’s like wafer, like a wafer sandwich cookie. You can get the ice cream flavors are vanilla, strawberry, matcha, and sweet potato ice cream in a thin wafer. Those things look good. They look
Chris 35:45
really good. Now let
Kelli 35:46
me tell you this. This is why it’s popular. Those things are 399 to 499. Yes, that’s a good deal.
Chris 35:52
Yeah, and they’re like hidden. It feels like feels like you’re you’re almost trying to find a speakeasy spot to buy it from. Yes,
Kelli 35:58
yes, yes. It’s a very very hidden area, but it’s a great value, good price, and people are raving over those things. So really good value there. Something a little bit unique off the beaten path. Sure. If you can’t get the funnel cake, I’m just giving you another option for three.
Chris 36:12
Appreciate it.
Kelli 36:13
Okay, number two. This is blowing up the interwebs right now. Okay. At Terra Treats in Animal Kingdom,
Chris 36:22
okay,
Kelli 36:23
they have launched a cookie dough brownie ice cream sandwich. Yes, it is blowing up. It is
Chris 36:31
blowing up.
Kelli 36:32
This thing is $8.29.
Chris 36:35
Yes.
Kelli 36:35
Okay. Now let me explain. This is a brownie layered with vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate chips, and this is my favorite part: edible cookie dough, which heavily implies they sell things which aren’t edible, or in fact, they need to let you know this is edible. This whole this whole new thing of edible cookie dough is interesting because let me be clear we were all eating the cookie dough even when it had the huge warning on the container that said “Do not eat raw. As someone laughed in the face of the Pillsbury Illinois as I ate that raw cookie. I know, I know, and I did too.
Chris 37:15
But then, as someone who tried to make the nom nom cookies once and just had his fair share of the cookie dough before I baked it.
Kelli 37:21
That was a mistake. I’m
Chris 37:23
for the edible
Kelli 37:24
salmonella from salmonella from the eggs. Okay, but so let me. I’m going to go into a description of this. So this is about the size of a standard stack of $100 bills, which of course all of us have. All of
Chris 37:35
us have held a standard stack of $100. When I haven’t held standard stacks of $1,000 bills. The
Kelli 37:41
part that is a bit controversial is it does have a little bit of sea salt on it. Okay. And now some people like that sweet salty situation. I’m not a huge fan of it, but some people do like that. And so for people who like it, they are just going ape over this. And for people who don’t, they’re like, really don’t like it. So this is a polarizing treat. Okay. Now polar polarizing. See what you did there. Disney Tourist Blog has the best description of this treat, and so I’m gonna read you what they wrote because this is phenomenal. Not surprised;
Chris 38:12
those those people are great.
Kelli 38:13
I don’t think we need to dissect the flavor profile or its nuances. There’s no subtlety to this. It’s a big old hunk of dessert, dense and delicious. It is, if we’re being honest with ourselves, a bit of an abomination. Frankenstein’s dessert, the kind of distinctly American and, by extension, patriotic dish that would make Sam Eagle proud. It actually reminds me of something that Trader Joe’s would come up with and that would sell out on day one, and then have people stalking the restocks and somehow selling it on eBay for hundreds of dollars? Tell me that’s not the perfect description. Well done, Disney Disney tourist blog. That was so awesome. Okay, so number one,
Chris 38:57
can’t hardly wait. I bet I know what it is. What do you think
Kelli 39:00
it
Chris 39:01
is? I’m going to say that you’re gonna classify that brioche as a as an ice cream sandwich. How would
Kelli 39:09
that not be a sandwich? But I’m right. It’s got ice cream in the middle and there’s bread.
Chris 39:13
It’s two buns, in fact. Right. This is the
Kelli 39:15
croque glacé. There we go. At Le Artesan Day’s glacés. Now I have said this before, right? You’re going to be tempted when you go in to get a scoop. You’re going to be tempted by those macaroons. It’s overwhelming. It’s very overwhelming. You’ve waited in line for 30 minutes. You finally get in. You think you’ve settled in your flavor, and then you’re just completely overwhelmed. And in the moment, you make the wrong decision. I did. I’ve been there. I know exactly. We
Chris 39:42
had a raspberry one, a raspberry mackerel.
Kelli 39:44
Exactly how this works, right? But you’re going to go in and you’re going to get this croque glace. It has one scoop of choice. Now you’ve got 14 flavors. They got lots of flavors to pick from, right? That’s what I’m talking about. I need the selection. This is going to go on. Your homemade brioche bun. It is with your choice of sauce.
Chris 40:06
Your choice of sauce. Your choice
Kelli 40:07
of sauce. They have four different sauces. They’re going to put on that, and then they press it warmly. So you know what this does. This solves that problem of trying to eat a block of ice.
Chris 40:16
Yes, it does.
Kelli 40:17
Right, because it’s a little bit soft, but it’s pressed warmly. It’s going to get up into
Chris 40:21
the nooks and crannies of that brioche. Crest warmly,
Kelli 40:23
so it’s not really seeping out the sides. It is just perfection. So here’s my recommendation: you’re going to get the croquelace with the caramelized pecan ice cream. Yeah, I am. That’s right. Or the cinnamon caramel apple ice cream with the chocolate sauce. Either of those with the chocolate sauce, press warm in the brioche bun. That is the best ice cream sandwich for you to have on ice cream sandwich day at Disney. Now I will not be accepting feedback on this. This is the right place. It’s the right ingredients. It’s the right price. It’s also
Chris 40:59
the right time of and it’s the right option. We just talked about how hot it is.
Kelli 41:02
Freshly baked brioche, 14 different flavors of ice cream made in France, which is the best pavilion in Epcot. It is complete perfection. So, you’re welcome to send your feedback. I will just not be accepting it this time because that is the number one ice cream sandwich at Disney World facts, and I’m right
Chris 41:21
facts.
Kelli 41:22
All right, that’s my world showcase. All right, well
Chris 41:25
you did a great job. I cannot wait to have the Croque Glassé at Artisans a
Kelli 41:32
Glassée. Yeah, all right, all
Chris 41:34

Chris 42:23
it. Booty,
Kelli 42:23
and I highly recommend. I love it. I get compliments every single time I wear it. It is my design, and so I’m a little bit biased there. No,
Chris 42:33
it’s great.
Kelli 42:33
Also, if you haven’t checked us out on YouTube yet, please know that right now there are two really adorable puppies walking around in the room, and you don’t get to see it. That’s right. That’s right. So join
