hello out there. Disney. Fam, my name is Chris and I’m Kelli, and we’re so glad you’re with us. We are struggling
Unknown Speaker 0:42
fairly functional this week. I can’t even believe you are upright enough to do this, but you’re a trooper, and so here you are, first day I’ve been vertical in about five days, which is exciting for a lot of reasons. Yes, and I’m wearing my Italy ears, one because they are the most comfortable ears I own. Sure, puffy they got their feet well, they’re soft, puffy gingham too. Yeah, they’re comfy two because they’re topic adjacent, okay? But also, I just really needed some comfy ears tonight. I don’t have, I don’t have space right now in my life for anything itchy,
Unknown Speaker 1:17
all things comfortable, yes, well, we had downloads as always because the listeners are amazing.
Unknown Speaker 1:27
Truckee, California, ooh, how do you spell that truck with two E’s on the end? Oh, my gosh, that feels like it ought to be a gas station brand.
Unknown Speaker 1:38
It does this a gorgeous ski community, right? The sort of Lake Tahoe area of California, yes, would not have guessed that in a million years. So part of the famous in part due to the tragic tale of the Donner party way back. I mean, Donner Lake is in Truckee, California, right? So you know little cannibalism, okay, wow, creepy. But hey, we are happy to have you brighter days. Has listened to our listen to our podcast? Welcome, welcome. Welcome Livonia, Michigan. Oh, Livonia, yeah, suburb west of Detroit. We have so many suburbs of Detroit that just listen this. So Detroit’s very underrated. It’s super underrated. We love that area. Big sports town, the largest Amateur Hockey and soccer clubs in the state, and the Hockey Club is a two time state champ. Wow, that’s cool. Yeah. Lavonia, yeah, go Livonia. Good on you. Livonia.
Unknown Speaker 2:39
I don’t know if that’s how they say it. But I hope it is North Las Vegas, Nevada. Oh, I think mainly famous for being north of Las Vegas, but like a nice place to be, okay? How far north? Just, just, I think that’s what it says on the map. Just okay, north of Las Vegas, all right. And truly, one of the world’s wonderful cities, Mexico City, Mexico. Mexico city that is on my bucket. I know I want to go so bad. One of my favorite podcasters goes all the time, and he just, I’ve got a co worker that lived there for 25 years, and he just thinks the world of it, yeah, certainly one of the most important cultural centers in Latin America. I always forget, like the I know I follow the US national soccer team, and they play down there a fair amount, and I always forget how high the elevated Mexico City is. It’s like, oh yeah, elevation, yeah, absolutely it is. So anyway, so yeah, thank you all for the downloads. We are so appreciative. Yes, welcome, welcome aboard. Yep. Are you ready for some news? Let’s do it all right,
Unknown Speaker 3:48
okay.
Unknown Speaker 3:50
So starting Wednesday, March the fifth, launches the Epcot international Flower and Garden Festival. So look, I think this is the second best festival at Epcot throughout the year, okay, but it’s a thing that’s pretty high bar. I mean, to be the second to be only behind bar. Food and Wine Festival is my favorite, obviously. Okay, so then, I mean, I like festival the arts. I think there’s some pretty cool dishes that come out of festival the arts. They’re beautiful. That’s figments. You know, time to shine. I know it is, but I think interact you. You’re just making quite a statement without us discussing this. I don’t know that I want us to declare that I’m speaking for me. Okay, I’m just saying. I don’t think I’m ready. Would you what would you put as number two? I might have put Festival, the arts, or would you put the holiday Festival, the holiday Festival, Best Festival, the holidays. I don’t know. I mean, maybe I would have put, maybe i i might have put Flower and Garden like last.
Unknown Speaker 4:51
Okay, you can do that, but you can also be wrong. It’s fine. I’m just saying, I don’t think you should just declare that it’s the second best festival. Easily the second best is the second.
Unknown Speaker 5:00
Longest. That makes it the second best. Are you seeing the holidays? Is third? Uh, holidays?
Unknown Speaker 5:07
Yeah. Maybe it’s not the you know, you know, you backtracking. Now I can see on your face, it is second. It’s not second best. And you know it, take it, take it back. Take it back. Totally not, not second. You’re gonna agree. We’re gonna do a, we’re gonna do a virtual tour of the food booths. You’re gonna agree, I’m not gonna agree that it’s second best. No, I’m not. I’m not third at best.
Unknown Speaker 5:30
Look, this thing starts March 5 and runs through June 2. You went on and on on about Antonio’s hair last year. So cute. Oh my gosh, she had great hair.
Unknown Speaker 5:42
I know good hair, really good hair. Yeah, so I mean that alone, boop right at the number two, at least, because Antonio’s hair. Yeah, for you, I know how you love this hair. I don’t. I think you’re making very broad statements. And I and in my weakened state, I can’t really come up with good a reason why I’m wrong? No, I’ve got plenty of reasons you’re wrong. I just can’t come up with good quips. I’m also trying to wrangle in our biggest dog. I know we took his benevolence away because it was the noise was showing up in the sound
Unknown Speaker 6:15
right now. All right, so March 1 yesterday was World compliment day and Walt Disney World Shared that over 2.6 million compliments have been left for cast members through the app.
Unknown Speaker 6:30
That’s amazing. That is amazing. It’s amazing. I love that. But it’s not enough. Let’s give them some more. How do we know how many years that’s I don’t know. I think since the app launched, probably that’s what I was worried is, how long has that been? That’s the impression I got from the article, was that it’s since we launched the app to give 2.6 million compliments to cast members. Okay, so All right, let’s, let’s pile those on. They’re worth it. Five to 10 million. Yeah, they deal with a bunch of BS all the time, Yep, absolutely, and nobody’s perfect, but they they work hard. Yep,
Unknown Speaker 7:06
okay,
Unknown Speaker 7:08
look, oh goodness. I think a lot of news about this came out on while we were on our break. Okay, like I feel like you’re also right on a break, okay, but I am hoping, hoping, hoping, oh, gosh, I feel like you work the Disney Starlight dream. The night away opens before we go in the summer. This is the new nighttime parade. We’re at Magic Kingdom. Oh, it’s a new Magic Kingdom nighttime parade. Yes, okay. Is it gonna be spectra, magic, electrical lights. I don’t, I’m, I have taken so much medication. It is in the last 72 hours. It’s, you know, it’s, it’s based on, like, the Old Main Street Electrical Parade, okay, uh, scheduled to launch in the summer of 2025 okay, but the news item this week was that, specifically the news item was that it’s now on the website. It’s actually, you know, detailed on the website, and they’ve got the like, a little thing there for the schedule, but it says, like, March 1. When I looked at it yesterday, March 1. No parade today. Okay, so schedule when it’s going to launch, right? But it says it’s scheduled to launch in the summer of 2025, okay, well, we’re going to right in the middle of 2020, sorry, so I feel like summer should be early June.
Unknown Speaker 8:29
Okay. I mean, is that technically still summer? It’s for your 50th birthday? I think they, I feel like we ought to call I think they could make it happen. I feel like we want to call somebody. I do Absolutely. Hopeful. What’s, what’s special about it? You said it’s based on electrical Well, I mean, it’s that kind of a parade. It’s a it’s like a spectrum magic, a main street, Electrical Parade. Here’s what Disney’s website has to say about it. Okay, behold a dazzling nighttime parade that celebrates magical moments from Disney stories, each touched by starlight.
Unknown Speaker 9:02
Find find a sweet spot under the stars to watch Disney Starlight dream the night away a shimmering processional inspired by the classic Main Street Electrical Parade. It’s a star kissed constellation of Disney dreams brought to life by the magic of the Blue Fairy. Watch as enchanting moments unfold, from favorite Disney and Pixar stories such as Moana Peter Pan and Canto, frozen Pinocchio and more, it all happens along the parade route, from Frontier land to Main Street, USA. I’ve got a question, okay, who is the Blue Fairy?
Unknown Speaker 9:38
Oh, gosh, oh my gosh.
Unknown Speaker 9:41
Is this God modesty podcast for nigh on years now, honey, who’s the Blue Fairy? She’s been like, yes, fairy. She’s the one that gives him real legs, like a real boy.
Unknown Speaker 9:54
Don’t make me laugh. It’s gonna make me cough. And that’s not what the listeners want to hear. I’m sorry. You’re right. You write about that.
Unknown Speaker 10:00
I want to hear that you’re right. So wait a second. Is in her name is Blue Fairy. The Blue Fairy, it’s not like Helen. No, it’s not Helen. She’s the one that, like gives him Jiminy Cricket. She’s the one that brings him to life as a wooden boy. And then once he goes through his whole adventure, which man? Listen to the listen to the bonus episode this week, because man Pinocchio has twisted we talked about it. Oh no, it is messed up. But twisted Pecos messed up, but, but I think they so he could just cause her, like, Hey, Blue Fairy. Well, no, I mean, she’s the Blue Fairy. She’s that’s just what she’s known as. She’s known as the Blue Fairy. What does he call her? Hey fairy, I don’t think he calls her anything. Ma’am. Probably, you probably calls her ma’am, Blue Fairy. Hey, ma’am, thank you, ma’am, okay, do we know that it’s a woman? Yes, always pretty fairies, I know. But in the animated fairies can be non binary. I mean that there’s a lot of different.
Unknown Speaker 10:54
I’m just saying she definitely goes by, she, her, she, her pronouns at the Blue Fairy, but no actual name, just the Blue Fairy. Well, Fairy Godmother doesn’t have a name either. It’s fairy. Her first name is fairy, last name, godmother. This woman’s name is blue and fairy is her last name. Interesting. I mean, it’s the Blue Fairy. She’s When you wish upon a star, okay, I’m just saying I don’t know that in Disney lore, she is known by a lot of people, and so you’re making her like the person who leads this whole nighttime parade. Feels like a stretch. That’s this is a you problem, because we all would recognize her as leading this nighttime parade.
Unknown Speaker 11:41
Listeners,
Unknown Speaker 11:43
I don’t think so. Listeners, this is a call to action. I disagree. Do you know who the Blue Fairy is? Would you have known who the Blue Fairy is before this delightful conversation? So here’s what I’m saying. Like, say you’re at the Magic Kingdom and you’re sitting there on Main Street eating your ice cream, waiting for the nighttime parade to start. And here comes nighttime parade, and it’s led by a Blue Fairy. Would you be like, Oh, that’s the fairy from Pinocchio? Yes, absolutely 100 I don’t think so
Unknown Speaker 12:13
you’re wrong, because you are just you are on a streak of being wrong. Just sit there in your wrongness and be wrong. I don’t think so
Unknown Speaker 12:22
the rock and roller coaster guitar is getting a new paint job. Okay, what colors it can be? We don’t know, but probably red Ray it.
Unknown Speaker 12:30
I thought they weren’t going to get going away from airspeed. They are. But this is really just a jumping off point for me to talk about that, because again, while we were on a break, the world learned about huge changes coming to Hollywood Studios related to the Muppets. The Muppets courtyard is going away entirely. Muppets, 3d all that’s going away. That whole area where Miss piggies of batch of liberty, the even mama Melrose, I think, is going away. Oh my gosh. Pizza Place, Rizzo pizzas, yeah, yep. It’s going to become a monsters. Inc, themed land entirely. Oh, that whole area is going to be a land monsters. Inc, yes. So we’re going to get the roller coaster. That’s a suspension roller coaster, that’s like going through the door. Okay, that’s cool. And so the Muppets are going to be taking over the roller coaster, rock and roller coaster. Okay, right? I’m hoping it’s going to be a, you know, Dr teeth, Electric Mayhem type deal. Okay, so then there could still be a guitar involved. Oh, yeah, 100% it will still have a band. Yeah, yeah, the Electric Mayhem. Okay,
Unknown Speaker 13:32
I mentioned the meds, right? What I’m saying is, it’s the meds. Is why you don’t remember the blueberry No, and it’s not why I don’t know the Electric Mayhem either. I’m just saying I think you’d be a little nicer to me. This being my first vertical day, I’ll be honest, I think I’m on the way down five days. So, you know, think you’re headed towards few horizontal days. All right. Well, fun for us all good times up in here.
Unknown Speaker 13:56
And just one quick note being that we are officially in March now we can start counting down the days to march 21 and the release of Snow White.
Unknown Speaker 14:06
Snow White, the live action. Oh, the live action. Snow White, okay, yes, with evil queen, played by golgot Wonder Woman herself. I mean, that thing that’s, yeah, the mirror is lying. I mean, she is absolutely the fairest of them. All right. No, yeah, she’s gorgeous. That’s interesting, because, you know, snow is so marginalized in the parks. Do you think with the with the Resurgence? Yeah, where it sees some more snow, we’ll see a resurgence? Yes, okay, good for snow. I hope so. I hope that happens. I hope she gets a resurgence of merchant and love. Yeah, I think it’s also important to note Well, Rachel zegler, who was in West Side Story, is snow. I think it’s important also to note that Lilo and Stitch, the I’m using scare quotes here, live action, Lilo and Stitch releases on my birthday this year, May 23 Oh, yeah, that’s cool. Suddenly stitch will have a place in my heart, I’m pretty sure.
Unknown Speaker 15:00
Oh, that’s fun. I didn’t know they were doing a Lilo and Stitch live action. He had a commercial during the Super Bowl. He got onto the field and was running around. Oh, that’s awesome. Kind of chaos. I don’t watch the Super Bowl. He does. Yeah, I met him on the boat. He’s one of my I love stitch on the boat. He’s one of my favorites on Dream light Valley by far. I love him. You ready for your tomorrow land? I’m ready. All right,
Unknown Speaker 15:21
okay, so I’m doing something a little different. We don’t normally handle a lot of the festivals at Disneyland, certainly a bad thing, almost never, yeah, and so what we don’t realize there is that their schedule is different than Disney World. So the Food and Wine Festival at Disneyland kicked off on Friday. It’s probably the best festival there. Yeah, it probably is open February 28 and it goes through April the 21st so they’ve got their food and wine festival going on right now. Now we’ve also talked about how Disneyland has totally different food at their festivals than we do right like, they lean very heavily into Hispanic culture, and they do an amazing job with some food out there. So I thought I would just go just around to each of the booths, and they don’t have as many booths as we get at Epcot, but go around each of the booths and tell you what I think is my favorite from each booth. Okay, but first of all, there is a souvenir mug for those interested. It is the Disney California Adventure food and wine corksicle eco stacker. Now I’m gonna tell you. This is what it looks like is a stainless steel Solo cup. I’m not sold on it, but hey, if that floats your boat, then go for it, right? That’s up to you. Now, the cool thing is, is they have some bookable experiences at their food and why they have four bookable experiences. The first one is cocktails at Sonoma terrace. Now this is hosted by cork sickle. This is where you can go to seminars dedicated to beer, cider and wine tasting at Carthay Circle, you can join winemaking experts in special tastings and pairings, right? All these are bookable events at the hearthstone lounge. They have what is called a walk on the Silverado trail at Mariposa pool deck in the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa. And this is specialty wine and cuisine pairings. And then what I think looks the coolest is the dinner and Scotch event. This is Trey past hors d’oeuvres, live music and exceptional scotches paired with an intimate four course dinner experience. Oh, that is that sounds cool, right? Yes, that sounds like a lot of fun. So we don’t get bookable experiences like that at our festival. So I thought that was a cool thing to note. Now I will say too, I think their booths have amazing names. So this first booth is called cluck a doodle, move. Oh, that’s hard to say, right? Cluck, a doodle, moo. And so what they’ve got here. These are dishes that have both chicken and steak. Now, their dishes look like dishes. These don’t look like small plates, small bites. Okay, these don’t look like small bites. These look like dishes. So this one is a grilled skirt steak and chipotle chicken with Spanish rice and salsa verde. So it looks like a chicken leg and skirt steak on rice with salsa verde. It looks fairly serious. There’s another booth called golden dreams, and at that booth you’re gonna want the musubi fried rice. This is an Aulani Resort inspired steamed rice with egg, glazed spice, ham, umami, mayo and Furie, cocky. Of course, it is now on the side of that you would also like to get the joffrey’s drink at that booth, which is a blueberry pancake, cold brew. What this is Mexico origin coffee, oat milk, Demerara, maple and brown butter, syrups topped with blueberry sweet cream, garnished with cinnamon flavored cereal, crumble. Come on, I’m not a coffee guy, but I would drink that now I know Jeffrey knows what he’s doing. There’s another booth called La style. This is where you get the cutest hot dog I have ever seen in my life. This is a mini la street dog with jalapeno mayo, pepper and onion relish, nues, keys, Applewood, smoked bacon and crispy onions. It is the cutest hot dog I have ever seen in surprise. I never thought I’d even hear you say, it’s adorable, absolutely adorable.
Unknown Speaker 19:27
The next one we’re gonna hit is the Mercado day, and to host, I mispronounced that, please see prior notes about medication I am on here we have a birya Mac and cheese with onion cilantro sauce and a tortilla crunch. Now you’re gonna get that. So that’s basically like some meat on top of mac and cheese. You’re gonna get that along with their Cafe day, oh yeah, Tres Leches cake. Oh yeah. This is topped with piloncillo Chantilly.
Unknown Speaker 20:00
Cinnamon and a Mickey shaped cookie on the side of that, you will also have their raspberry horchata some booth, which is raspberry almond and cinnamon syrups, rice pudding, milk and condensed milk garnished with skewered raspberries. That’s not alcoholic, no that you need all of those things again, like they do Mexican there at Disneyland, they do a level that Disney World can’t even comprehend. Like it, yeah, it’s phenomenal. Next booth is peppers, Cali intake.
Unknown Speaker 20:33
There’s a dash Cali because we’re in Cali because Cali intake peppers are, yeah, Kelli Inte. So this is fun. Here is where you’re gonna get your corn chip chili pie with impossible beef. This is a Frito Frito Pie. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 20:50
Okay, so this is seasoned impossible beef, spicy cheese sauce, tomatoes, sliced jalapenos and cream on top of a bed of Fritos. I love that for that 100% Yeah. Now here, this is cool. They’ve got this drink at a couple different places,
Unknown Speaker 21:05
a pickle whiskey sour cocktail. This is bourbon pickle juice, lime juice, sweet and sour. Garnish with taheen, chili lime sauce, taheen and a pickle spear. When they say a pickle spear. I’m telling you, there’s an entire pickle in this drink. There’s a lot going on in that drink. Nothing in there. Sounds like something I would like, except for that pickle pickle, except for that pickle juice, yeah, but that pickle juice is really messed up with all the other stuff they put in there. I don’t know what to think about that one. The next one we’re gonna hit is uncork California. Now, the name of that booth heavily implies you’re going to go there to drink wine, and if you want to absolutely go there, they’ve got tons of it, but what you really want is their Mickey shaped macaron made with Snickers bar pieces. This is a massive Mickey macaron, a chocolate Mickey shaped macaron filled with caramel ganache made with Snickers bar pieces. That thing is huge, and so, you know, don’t go there for the wine. You need to get that Mickey shaped macaron with the Snickers bar pieces and a caramel ganache. I mean, a Mickey shaped macaron is always the right way to go, always the way to go, always the way to go. Next you’re gonna pop on over to Clarabelle, hand scooped ice cream, where you can get her strawberry shortcake. This is Angel Food Cake, vanilla ice cream, strawberry syrup, whip topping and fresh strawberries. Thank you life. Thank you Clarabelle.
Unknown Speaker 22:33
Now this next one again, y’all corn dog Castle is the name of this place. Okay? Corn chip chili pie featuring impossible beef. So another Frito pie with impossible it is okay, but this corn dog Castle also has what looks like a corn dog that’s been dipped in the chili pie and fried. There you go. That’s what it looks like at corn dog castle. I mean, again, corn dog Castle sounds like a sounds like something you get at the state fair. Yeah, yeah. Except, except you’re also at Disney World now, Disneyland now, once again, Disneyland wins on the churros. So there are four churros. You need four different locations. The first one is at Terran treats. This is going to be your creme brulee churro with pastry cream, strawberry Kelli and crushed brule sugar churros at Hollywood land is going to be your peach tea churro. Ooh. Classic churro rolled in peach sugar with diced peaches and peach tea sauce, and then over in your goofy sky school or senior buzz churros at Pixar pier, that’s where you’re going to get your mango sticky rice inspired churro. Classic churro rolled in sugar with Sticky Rice and Mango pieces. And then you’re gonna pop over to Willie’s churros at Buena Vista Street for a strawberry caramel churro with whip topping strawberries and caramel. Yeah, yeah. Like, they just do churros at Disneyland. They don’t mess around. They do them. Okay, so that’s really what you need there at the food and wine. Now I’ve got an honorable mention. Okay, okay. Honorable Mention going out to salt and straw. Okay, okay, right? The Disney village, the Disney Disney village area, honor bunch into salt and straw. They have a pink rose a and watermelon sorbet. This is a watermelon in rose sorbet with a rose a raspberry jam. Well,
Unknown Speaker 24:29
okay, okay. Next they have an aged dark ale with Manchego Oh, an aged dark ale fudge swirled with Manchego cheese and tart cherry marmalade. There’s a lot going on there. It’s a lot going on there. So I’m giving them honorable mentions that specific though, to that salt and straw, because there’s one over in on the East Coast too. I would guess it this is listed on the food and wine. Okay, so this is, let’s say.
Unknown Speaker 25:00
Get you the Food Wine listed for the Food and Wine Festival menu. I mean salt and straw really knocks it out of the park all the time. They do. They really do. But I felt like they had upped their game just slightly there enough, just a couple of to edge out that honorable mention here. Yeah. So
Unknown Speaker 25:19
we’ve never done Food and Wine Festival Disneyland, and I really enjoyed perusing that menu. That was a lot of
Unknown Speaker 25:27
fun. I loved it. Yeah, we’ll have
Unknown Speaker 25:31
to do it. Still have to go, okay, little bit of a turn here.
Unknown Speaker 25:38
I so I was scrolling to socials recently, and an actor that I’d never heard of before, a named Pat Manzi,
Unknown Speaker 25:50
made me aware of something that I thought at first, well, that’s garbage. You don’t know. How do you know that? But then I started researching this
Unknown Speaker 25:58
Disney wiki fandom.com helped out with this. This is, this is totally the backstory of the Black Pearl and Jack Sparrow. That’s awesome. How did the Black Pearl become the Black Pearl? Why does Jack Sparrow have it? I love it when you do back stories. Well, good, because I’m doing one tonight on this, this very podcast good. I love it when you do that. Okay, so here are some things to remember about moments in the movies that will help. Okay, color this out. All right. We learned early in The Curse of the Black Pearl that Sparrow quote had a brush with the East India Trading Company when Norrington discovers that Sparrow has been branded as a pirate. Okay, remember that? Yep, we also learned in Dead Man’s Chest that Sparrow has a debt to be paid to Davy Jones. But we aren’t exactly sure why. We never really know why. According to the movies, we also know that Cutler Beckett. He’s the guy that was the head of the East India Trading Company that they were dealing with, right? He was actually the director of the East India Trading Company for West Africa. Okay, okay.
Unknown Speaker 27:11
Why does he care so much about Jack Sparrow? How does he even know Jack Sparrow? What’s their mutual connection to the East India Trading Company? Other than Norrington saying Jack Sparrow had a brush with them, right, right? So just kind of keep all that in mind. Okay, so here’s the backstory of how the Black Pearl came to be.
Unknown Speaker 27:32
Okay. Jack Sparrow was a captain of a ship called the wicked winch, okay, okay. And he worked for the East India Trading Company, okay? As a regular employee, as a regular employee, he’s the captain of this ship. And what they did was they hauled cargo for the East India Trading Company. That’s spices and silks and fabrics and all those things that we were trading, you know, that were being traded with the Far East, right?
Unknown Speaker 28:02
Jack Sparrow was one of the captains of those ships, and his ship was given to him. That ship had been owned by the East India Trading Company, and it was known as the wicked winch. Okay,
Unknown Speaker 28:15
now it was a the cargo vessels at the time were large. They had to carry lots of car. There was a merchant ship, right? So they had carried lots of cargo. They had some weaponry on them, but not like a warship would have. But they were also designed to be fast, so that they could maneuver in case of pirates, okay,
Unknown Speaker 28:37
so that’s sort of what the wicked wench was. So as I said, Jack would haul cargo for Cutler Beckett in particular.
Unknown Speaker 28:48
And at some point, Beckett wanted Sparrow to haul slaves.
Unknown Speaker 28:54
Oh, Sparrow refused and freed slaves. Well, good job Jack. Good job Jack. Way to go. Jack Spence, there’s a hole in that hole. Theory, whether or not Jack’s a good, you know, actually, a good guy never really know, right? Yep, but he wouldn’t. He wouldn’t haul slaves. Okay, as punishment. Cutler Beckett set the wicked winch on fire and burned it until it sank, okay, and then he branded Jack Sparrow a pirate. Literally, literally brand. That was all part of the punishment for Jack refusing to haul slaves for Cutler Beckett, okay, okay. Sparrow seeks out Davy Jones and makes a deal with him if he could, if he could resurface the Wicked Witch and make Jack and allow jack to be the pirate of it again.
Unknown Speaker 29:50
Then,
Unknown Speaker 29:52
then he would, Davy Jones said, Yes, I’ll do that, but I’ll allow you to be the pirate of that ship for 13 years.
Unknown Speaker 30:00
Yes, but at the end of 13 years, you owe me 100 years of slavery aboard the Flying Dutchman. Oh, Jack Sparrow agreed to that. That’s the debt that he owed to Davy Jones. Wow. Davy Jones does raise the wicked winch, but when it resurfaces, it’s all charred and black and its sales are tattered and blood. Jack Sparrow renames the wicked winch the Black Pearl. Black Pearl. Okay, so that’s really how he becomes Jack Sparrow, the pirate captain of the Black Pearl. And of course, two years after that
Unknown Speaker 30:40
is when first mate Barbosa mutiny mutinies, leads a mutiny strands jack on a desert island, and then they go on a 10 year tear of piracy, which during which got them cursed, right? So Jack never really had his 13 years did not that was Jack’s whole point, right? Once he got the ship back a year into it, we land at the beginning of Dead Man’s Chest. And what do we see Jack doing at the beginning of that? He’s looking for a way to get control of Davy Jones’s heart. Because whoever controls Davy Jones’s heart controls Davy Jones, ah, so he can get around the whole 100 years of slavery thing, whole 100 years of slavery, that was his whole was his whole thing. He’s
Unknown Speaker 31:25
like, he’s like, he’s like, I never had my 13 years, right? My jerk first mate, 10 of my 13 years, right? So, but we know Jack also. He’s he’s not. He was going to always try to, always we try to get away out of it, yeah, get around that whole deal, right? So that is how the Black Pearl became the Black Pearl. Now this is apparently backed up. There’s a whole series of books that were written as tie ins to the black to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, okay, right? So there’s like three or three books, I think, that take place prior to the Black Pearl movie, and then there’s some that take place afterwards. And it we learn in there that He was the captain of the wicked winch, and so on and so forth. Okay, so,
Unknown Speaker 32:18
couple of other little fun facts here.
Unknown Speaker 32:22
There is a deleted scene DVD. Remember DVDs? I remember DVDs? Yeah, I’m sure this is on the DVD the extras, or whatever the DVDs came with, or like a blue ray. Oh, man, stop it now. You’re going crazy.
Unknown Speaker 32:39
I’m sure that on the extras of the DVD or the blu ray,
Unknown Speaker 32:44
you could get to the deleted scenes, but you can also just find it on YouTube. All the all the deleted scenes from the pirates movies are out there on YouTube if you watch the deleted scenes for at Worlds in the last well, not the last one, but the last of that first trilogy. Okay, there’s a scene. There’s a scene in that movie, anyway, where, where Sparrow and Cutler Beckett are in a room together, and they’re dealing they’re figuring out who’s going to do what Cutler Beckett wants to find his way to the pirate hideout where they’re the
Unknown Speaker 33:20
pirate court is meeting all Okay, and so they’re dealing they’re working out a way to solve both their problems and and the deleted. There’s a deleted segment of that conversation where Cutler Beckett is trying to explain to jack the importance of hauling car of the East India Trading Company hauling cargo. And Jack responds, people are not cargo.
Unknown Speaker 33:45
Ah, we didn’t get to see that in the release of the movie, but that’s a deleted scene that’s interesting. So that that that little moment alone, right? Says these two, that’s where their history comes from. That’s interesting. So if they branded Jack a pirate, that would mean he he can’t be nobody else will hire him. So you could say, hire by another legitimate Well, yeah, technically, that’s right, but you know, later on, I mean, actual history suggests that England, at the very least, hired pirates to serve the Royal Navy, and they called him privateers. And in fact, in I think, in the fourth one, the one that’s got Blackbeard Barbosa, is we find him working as a privateer for the Royal Navy. Even though he was a pirate. Pirates working for the Royal Navy were privateers, so he could have probably done something along those lines, right? Doesn’t seem like a Jack Sparrow kind of gig, though. He’s not really a corporate man. No, he’s not really a total line. What got him in trouble with the East India Trading Company? Yeah, I could see that. So,
Unknown Speaker 34:55
so let’s see in up until 2006 2006 is when they.
Unknown Speaker 35:00
Sort of changed parts of the Caribbean to be the ride, to be like the movie elements in it. But prior to that, it always had that scene early in the ride, where the where the ship is firing on the on the fort, that ship up until 2006 and the movies and all that was also the wicked winch
Unknown Speaker 35:21
that was the name of that ship. Okay, so that’s where it’s really where the name of that how would we have known that? I may have been able to see it on the ship, but in terms of the story that went along with the with the ride, that’s what that was the weekend winch. And now it’s Black Pearl, and barbos is on it. Yeah, I don’t know if I still, I still think it’s got a different name now, but it’s Barbosa. It is Barbosa that’s on the ship that fires at us. Yes, yeah, that’s interesting. There’s a series of books. Let’s see the last movie sort of, sort of retcons the whole thing,
Unknown Speaker 35:57
but like, because it says he gets that compass from the Spanish right. But in that last movie, at the very beginning of it, we see young Jack Sparrow sailing a ship. These the Spaniards are chasing them. That ship in that movie is also the Wicked Witch, okay, young Jack Sparrow in there. Okay, so just interesting. So they could still do another movie. They could go backwards and get they could go backwards. Yeah? Pretty cool. Yep, yep. So Star Wars thing, yeah, that’s a whole, you know? That’s the whole back story of the Black Pearl and Jack Sparrow and all that highly new Cutler Beckett all that was a fun little research assignment I gave myself this weekend. Yeah, that does sound like a fun one. That’s the show folks. We hope you enjoyed it. We had food absolutely always. We’ve survived it, so that’s good too. Still vertical.
