    • Today’s Topic(s)
  • Mandalorian Update to Smuggler’s Run
    • https://blogmickey.com/2025/03/the-mandalorian-update-to-millennium-falcon-smugglers-run-to-debut-may-22-2026/
    • So, we know that the Madalorian and Grogu is coming to theaters on May 22, 2026. I don’t ever remember something like this happening in the past, but on the same day, a Mandalorian and Grogu storyline will be added to Smuggler’s Run.
    • This was announced at SXSW yesterday (3.8) by Jon Favreau and 2 imagineers (Leslie Evans & Asa Kalama):
    • “One of the cool things about Disney is how we can tell our stories in so many different formats,” Favreau told the crowd. “We’re already taking Mando and Grogu from the TV screen to the movie screen, and at the same time, [The Mandalorian executive producer] Dave [Filoni] and I are working with Asa to bring this story to the Disney parks, too.”
    • Working alongside The Mandalorian team, the Imagineers captured scenes for the attraction on the movie set, and you might see some familiar (and beloved) Star Wars locations aboard the Millennium Falcon. Care for a trip to Cloud City, anyone?
    • “This isn’t going to retell what happens in the movie – it’s more like participating in something that’s happening just off-camera from what you see in the film,” Favreau explained.
  • Flower & Garden Festival themed Trash Cans arrive at EPCOT
    • https://blogmickey.com/2025/03/epcot-flower-garden-festival-trash-cans/
    • I actually love the descriptiongiven by Blog Mickey, where we get a lot of our news for this segment.
    • An EPCOT Festival and a trash can, is there a more iconic pairing in all of Walt Disney World? Not just used for holding trash, the versatile EPCOT trash can is also a table, a wayfinding tool, a solar-powered compactor, and a friend to Around the World participants who start in Mexico. Now, it’s also a seasonally themed art piece.
    • There are 2 models and I mean… these things are adorable.
    • One is Orange-bird themed and the other is Spike The Bee, both mascots of the festival.
    • I love that trash cans have taken on their own life among the Disney faithful, to such a degree that Disney reciprocates with new designs like this.
  • BDX Droids finally coming to WDW
    • https://blogmickey.com/2025/03/bdx-droids-finally-coming-to-walt-disney-world/
    • From Disney
      • These little droids, similar to BD1 from the Star Wars video games featuring Cal Kestis (Fallen Order / Jedi Survivor) made their testing debut at Disneyland Black Spire Outpost 2 years ago.
      • But they will be making appearance in Florida (and Tokyo, and Paris).
      • Ultimately they are just adorable.
      • They will also be featured in Mando and Grogu movie coming out next year.

“Our primary goal is creating an emotional experience for our guests,” Hundgen told the crowd. “For this Cars attraction, we need to invent a new type of ride vehicle. No one builds these in a factory because it has to do so much more than just carrying you from one place to another. We have to create a car that conveys a feeling when you ride in it.”

The team took a trip out to the Arizona desert to jump in a real off-road vehicle to see what it felt like driving over the rocky terrain.

  • From there, the Imagineers worked with a motocross company to build a real dirt track to race around on and took that data back to begin work on creating how the ride vehicles will eventually move and race.
  • “We’re using a customized production vehicle,” Hundgen continued. “It has sensors all over it, and we’re taking it for test drives on our dirt track to gather data on how the vehicle responds to different terrain. This is where we turn that feeling we want into real-world engineering,” Michael explained.
  • Docter shared some early concept sketches with the audience, teasing that they’re creating “new race car personalities for this attraction. Each vehicle in the ride will have its own name and number, just like a real race.”
  • First Ever Virtal Lift Locading Station At Disney
    • https://blogmickey.com/2025/03/monsters-inc-door-coaster-vertical-lift/
    • The signature attraction for the new Monsters Inc-themed land will be a roller coaster that carries guests through the expansive door vault scene in the movie.
    • Apparently Imagineers have been itching to create this ride since the movie first came out.
    • This will be the first suspended coaster at Disney.  And it will have the first vertical lift loading station.
      • Guests will enter the roller coaster on the “ground” floor. And then be lifted high above before starting the ride.

Hello out there, Disney fam, this is Chris and I’m Kelli. Welcome to this week’s episode of I don’t know maybe it’s your favorite Disney podcast, I hope it is. What ears are we going with today?

Kelli 0:44
Oh, today I am wearing the the Minnie Mouse ears with the little hat. The little hat that I thought were Mary Poppins ears when you showed them to me in the store, and I would call them, topic adjacent, okay, yeah. Topic

Chris 1:01
adjacent, well, just like the old days, I don’t think I know what your

Kelli 1:04
topic you don’t know my topic and not yours. Your topic adjacent, this is a road throwback. You didn’t ask. You just came home and we’re like, let’s record. You didn’t even ask. I’m

Chris 1:15
glad you were ready when I said to

Kelli 1:16
Hey, hon, did anybody listen to us this week? They did

Chris 1:21
shocking. I know, Rocky Mountain, Virginia, okay, the Roanoke metro area famous for being the gateway to the crooked road colon Virginia’s heritage music trail. Wow. I saw the crooked road, and it made me think of that Agatha, which is Road, yeah, not the same. This is fiddles and banjos can be heard throughout the town, okay, all the live music venues. That’s fun. Yep, Fruitland, Idaho.

Kelli 1:52
Oh, now how cute is that? What kind of fruit did they grow? This Pierce

Chris 1:56
apple orchards, oh, named for the apple orchards that surround the community. The city slogan is The Big Apple of Idaho.

Kelli 2:03
You don’t think about that. You know, Idaho is known for the potatoes. Yes, you don’t really think about about orchards.

Chris 2:12
Yeah, I think of Washington, the state for potatoes, apples.

Unknown Speaker 2:16
Oh,

Chris 2:20
so a conversation we had Lawrence Kansas, home to the University of Kansas. Yeah, no, I know Lawrence once called the cradle of basketball, because James Naismith, who invented basketball while in Springfield, Massachusetts, brought the game to Kansas and served as their first basketball coach. Wow, obviously the Jayhawks have a storied basketball Of course. I mean, yes,

Kelli 2:43
I did know that. I mean, not like the gamecock women’s basketball team. Yeah, that’s right, but by the way, but if you’re a guy, I’m sure you like Kansas, Jayhawks are also great,

Chris 2:58
sure. And then lastly, I’m gonna go ahead and apologize to the fine folks in this town, okay for mispronouncing, I’m sure, the name of their town, Chateau Gwei, Quebec, Canada. Canada. We love the Canadian.

Kelli 3:15
We love Canada. I want to say thank you Canada, not for nothing, but we love being awesome and having the ketchup potato chips and, you know, just think,

Chris 3:25
among other things, among other things, that makes Canada great maple syrup. It’s, you know, it is. They are more than just their ketchup flavor.

Kelli 3:35
Yes, our calls for syrup is about to go up, and

Chris 3:40
things don’t go well. Their health care is gonna go up this nestled between the Chateau way and St Lawrence rivers. Okay, it’s a it’s cuz it’s called an off Island suburb of Montreal, and so I looked into it, I’ll be honest. I didn’t know Montreal was an island, but it is. I

Kelli 3:55
did not know it’s on an island. Okay, we don’t know enough about Canada. We’re typical Americans. Just stupid all the time. One way street, one way street. Us Americans. Oh, you

Chris 4:08
want to talk about what’s going on on Main Street? Let’s hear it, hon. Okay, so we know that Mandalorian and grogu are getting a movie, full feature length movie, okay, yes, look on your face. You

Kelli 4:26
were fully aware. Yes, we know that. Yes. So glad to know that. Currently

Chris 4:29
scheduled, I think, for May 22 next year, 2026 Okay, and don’t grow goo on their wild adventures, okay. Well, Smugglers Run the ride at Galaxy’s edge is going to get mando and grogu storyline. Oh,

Kelli 4:48
so people might actually want to ride

Chris 4:51
it. I think lots of people love to ride it. It’s just not overrated.

Kelli 4:57
It’s overrated unless you’re in the pot. Pilot seat. It’s overrated. And I’ve tested it. If you don’t push your buttons, things still happen. So it’s, it’s overrated. Okay, oh

Chris 5:10
boy. So, so lots of news, by the way, coming out of South by Southwest, which is going on right now. There’s a, there’s a Disney stage and everything that’s going on there. Yeah. So lots of announcements. So let’s see John Favreau and a couple of Imagineers, Leslie Evans and ASA Kalama, talked about what they’re doing here with Smugglers Run and John Favreau says one of the cool things about Disney is how we can tell our stories in so many different formats. We’re already taking mando and grogu from the TV screen to the movie screen, and at the same time, Dave and I. Dave Filoni is the other guy that works on mando and I are working with ASA to bring this story to Disney Parks too, working alongside the Mandalorian team, the Imagineers captured scenes from the for the attraction from the movie set while the movie was being filmed. Oh, that’s fun, yeah, and you excuse me so you’ll see some beloved Star Wars locations aboard the Millennium Falcon, such as a trip to Cloud City. Now, that should excite you, because I know how much you are a Star Wars nut,

Kelli 6:24
yeah. I mean, the Cloud City does sound fun. Is this like where the Care Bears live?

Chris 6:33
We’re stopping right there. We’re not gonna go over any further along.

Kelli 6:35
I’ve never heard of another Cloud City. Well,

Chris 6:39
the bears you’re thinking of, live on the forest moon of Endor,

Kelli 6:44
Care Bears. No, I’m thinking of actual Care

Chris 6:47
Bears. Care Bears, I’m thinking of, actually, it’s a different city in the clouds. Do

Kelli 6:51
the teddy bear? I call them teddy bears. Do the teddy bears from Star Wars live in this cloud city? They live on the forest moon. Well, obviously in the forest moon of indoor is a very different place than Cloud City. Duh, duh, duh. Cloud

Chris 7:06
City is when we first met Lando Calrissian, right?

Kelli 7:11
The big green blob guy, Oh, dear God, stop

Chris 7:17
the this is not going to be a retelling of what happens in the movie. It’s more like participating in something that’s happening just off camera from what you see in the film. Okay, that’s fun. And the cool thing is, they launch it at the attraction on the exact same day that the movie launches in theaters. That’s

Kelli 7:34
cute. Okay, that’s a cool thing. I’m for that. That all sounds really cute. I want to hear more about this Cloud City one day, not today, not tonight, not today. I’m not there tonight. I’m not there tonight, but one day I would like to hear about Cloud City.

Chris 7:47
We just watch Empire Strikes Back. That sounds like a good idea.

Kelli 7:51
I have plans whenever you wanted to do this.

Chris 8:00
So this is the most Disney thing ever. The Flower and Garden Festival has released themed trash cans for Epcot. Okay, you know, I actually love the description that blog Mickey, where we get a lot of our news put out for this, an Epcot festival and a trash can. Is there a more iconic pairing in all of Walt Disney World, not just used for holding trash, the versatile Epcot trash can is also a table, a way finding tool, a solar powered trash compactor, and a friend to the around the world participants who started Mexico

Kelli 8:42
trash cans at Disney are a big deal. They are a big deal. But, you know, they sell little salt and pepper shaker trash cans they do at every festival. Yeah, there’s somebody somewhere that has collected all of all salt and pepper shaker trash cans, and when they die, 1000 their kids are going to be like, we got to get rid of all these trash cans, and they’re going to make millions of dollars off of them on eBay, but so you might as well theme them if you’re going to sell the trash cans.

Chris 9:08
I mean, the whole idea of Disney trash cans have taken on the life of their own is, oh yeah, awesome. I mean, so Disney was always very intentional about their trash cans, yes. Well, then the trash cans take on sort of a life of their own, and now they’re like, Okay, well, we’ve got to release themed trash cans for these events. I

Kelli 9:24
mean, it’s a thing in dream light valley as well. Like, I try to have my trash cans at every, you know, 50 feet or so, just like they do in the parks. And so I’ve got a lot of trash cans around my island, just and because they come in pairs, right? Like, you don’t just put one trash can. You get like, two trash cans, because they always they’re next to each other. So, yeah, no, trash cans are a big deal. Well,

Chris 9:48
one of these is orange bird themed, Oh, and one is spike the bee theme, which are both obviously mascots for the people gonna

Kelli 9:54
be taking their pictures of trash cans, for sure. I mean, because we are the complete. Lee, sane and normal.

Chris 10:04
Um, BDX droids are coming to Walt, Disney World. Okay, I’m expecting you to be like over the moon now a BDX droid, BDX droids. So

Kelli 10:16
these are different from BB eight droids or r2, d2, droids, or c3, po droids. Listen,

Chris 10:25
look at me. You’re gonna get some kind of a surprise later. That was amazing. So good. These are the I was first introduced to, these BD type droids playing the Star Wars video game, the one that Cal Castus is the lead character in, right? Yeah, fallen order, Jedi survivor those because a little BD droid is sort of his helper along the way. Okay, well, they created these actual BD droids, like three or four of them. I think they named three of them, Huey Dewey and Louie. Or at least that’s fresh, or at least in testing, they named them that right for the park in Disneyland. And they would sort of air quotes, free roam, okay, okay. And you can interact with them, and they’re just as cute as can be. They’re, they’re sort of kind of got, like, duck bodies, sort of, and they’re super cute. But they so they released them, like, two years ago, and it sort of tested them, and then they were part of the Star Wars festival days, or, you know, whatever they call them. May the Force Be With You days or whatever, last year. But they weren’t in, you know, Orlando, and they and nowhere else. Well, they’re gonna, like, kind of go on a tour. They’re gonna be at Orlando coming soon, and then you’re going to be able to see them in Tokyo and in Paris, when

Speaker 1 11:43
you say that they have duck bodies. Do they have little feet? Little duck feet? Well, so how they walk? You know, yeah, exactly. Do they have a little duck head? Their head doesn’t really look like a duck, okay. I mean, they have duck feet. I guess someone could say

Chris 11:59
a chicken too. It’s sort of a sort of a bird esque body type with

Kelli 12:03
webbed feet. Don’t really have webbed feet either. Even resemble a dozen.

Chris 12:10
I think if you looked at them and watched them walk, you would say, okay, I get it. I get it.

Kelli 12:15
It’s duck esque. Yeah. Jason, duck adjacent, it’s Doug adjacent,

Chris 12:23
all right, so fun times. They’re coming to to Walt Disney World in Orlando, okay? Ride vehicle concept art has been released for the car’s attraction coming to the Magic Kingdom.

Kelli 12:36
Okay? And this is supposed to be behind, like Big Thunder Mountain, yeah, I

Chris 12:40
think that area there, part of what they’re taking out the river for right again, also revealed that South by Southwest Pixar chief Pete doctor and Imagineer, Michael hungen suggested a completely new type of ride vehicle would be needed for the car’s attraction. There it’s versus like the one in Radiator Springs out in California, okay, okay, because that’s a race track, you know, here they are going to be leaving Radiator Springs altogether, and it’s kind of going off road. Okay, okay. So from from Disney, they said our primary goal is creating an emotional experience for the guests, for the for this car’s attraction, we needed a new type of ride vehicle. No one builds these, these in a factory, because it has to do so much more than just carry you from one place to another. We need a car that conveys feeling when you ride into it, when you ride in it interesting. The team took a trip out into the Arizona desert and jumped in a real off road vehicle to see what what it felt like driving over rocky terrain. And from there, the Imagineers worked with a motocross company to build a real dirt track to race around on, and then took that data back to been creating to begin creating the ride vehicle.

Kelli 13:57
I mean, I’ll just say I hope that this off road situation does not remind us of the dino land.

Chris 14:04
I know cars, I know but see now some people love that ride. Yes, those people do not have boobs.

Kelli 14:09
Okay, so I would just say, because if you’re if you’re carrying any kind of weight in that zone, those rides are not that much less fun. Much less fun. Yes, I don’t like having to hold my chest in place while on a ride. Okay,

Chris 14:30
just in case there are people that listen, that have never seen you in a picture or anything

Kelli 14:35
saying, just saying, Okay,

Chris 14:39
well, I’m glad so that’s that’s the news. Okay,

Kelli 14:41
great. Thanks son, well done.

Chris 14:45
Okay, moving on to Tomorrowland. We’ve mentioned that we’re headed back to Walt Disney World this summer, okay? And a lot of ways it’s gonna be very similar to any other trip we take, it maybe a day or two longer than our typical trip. I. We’re gonna do some but we’re gonna do some different things this year, specifically to try to celebrate the fact that I turned 50 this year. Right one day, allegedly, yeah, so the Disney World website has a page called enchanting extras, so that’s where I pulled all the information from this segment. Okay, took a spin through there today see if there’s anything specific we might want to try to make this trip extra special, other than taking the down days that I’ve always wanted to take that nobody ever right? Uh huh, yeah, look. And so if you go to this page, there is a ton of why you’re looking at me like that. I’m not

Kelli 15:43
looking at you in any way. Looking at you in any way.

Chris 15:49
There’s a ton of stuff to take advantage of, more than I actually thought would be on this page, honestly, with varying price points. And there’s no way to go through all of these in one segment. So here are the ones that stuck out to me in no particular order. Now, there are a few that we’ve actually done segment full on segments on before, okay, I believe one was dive quest. Oh, well, you Yes, you’ve actually done, I’ve done dive quest, and I think we did a full segment on that’s about $250 you get to actually go diving in the living seats aquarium. 1,000% 10 out of 10 recommend, yeah, the arrow file. That’s 25 bucks. Yes, you did a segment on that. Segment on that. I think I want to

Kelli 16:30
try it. Oh, mister, I don’t like heights with I don’t try the arrow spot. I

Chris 16:34
ride roller coasters at Disney. Oh, yeah. Okay, wild Africa trek, which I think you’ve talked about before, that’s $230 okay, and so there’s a segment out there on that, savor the Savannah, which I think you’ve also talked about before, which is $200 yes, got a full segment on that. And I’m, you know, considering some of those, right? Okay, so here’s some additional ones. Now this very first one which come right out. We’re doing this one. Okay, we’re doing the both of these. Okay, these are the fireworks cruises. Okay, these are 449 four and $50 okay, and so per per per cruise, per cruise, but you can have, we, we won’t have this movie, but you can have up to 10 people on your pontoon boats. So these are pontoon boats, and there’s one for the Magic Kingdom, and there’s one for Epcot. Okay, I think I saw the one I first got turned on to this when we were standing on the bridge at Epcot, between the UK and France, and looked down. You can see the people. There were boats. And I’m like, I want

Speaker 1 17:41
to be down there eating snacks on a boat. What eat snacks on a boat in

Chris 17:44
the water, watching the fireworks? So the idea here is, you, you don’t need park tickets for the day, and you board one of these pontoon boats at any number of embark destinations. So like maybe Polynesian or the Wilderness Lodge, or some one of those places for the Magic Kingdom, and say, the Yacht Club for the Epcot version, okay, you’re going to go on a nice little, you know, tour on the water. I think the Magic Kingdom, when you kind of go out towards the Wilderness Lodge. They show you a couple things out there, and just a nice, sort of evening cruise on the water, which just pumps that right into my veins. And then you park, and then you’re not the only boat out there. So there’s a number of boats out there. And for the Magic Kingdom, when you sort of just park out on the water where you can see but you know, you could see the train station and everything, but above that, you can see the castle, because of the way they’ve built the park. You can still see the castle. They play the music right on the boat with you for the show. And so you’re you’re on the water, you’re having snacks, and you’re watching this amazing show. We’re gonna watch those Magic Kingdom fireworks so many different ways on this trip. I can’t even wait for it. I’m excited about it, the Epcot version. You hop on, like I said, the Yacht Club, and they’ll actually take you towards Hollywood Studios again, just to give you a little evening cruise. And then back into Crescent Lake, and you make your way over to the water underneath the bridge at Epcot, and you’re basically right on the water watching these fireworks. And I gotta say, the new show, the luminous show, is actually lends itself to that vantage point a lot better than harmonious. Yeah. So really, really excited about that. Doing both of those, those we’ve already decided on we’re gonna do both of those on this trip. I cannot wait. I’m so excited now a couple of these others I didn’t know existed at all, and I’m we’re gonna have to give some real thought too. Okay, La Cava experience. I’ve heard of this one. It’s 180 bucks a person, so it ain’t cheap. No, no. These that I’ve selected are cheap. Frankly, I’m just a jerk. Embark on a magical journey. This is Disney’s description. Embark on a magical journey to the region of Mexico where tequila was born. This experience, rich in culture and tradition, is a showcase for some of the world’s finest tequila a certified tequila Ambassador guides you through a selection of rare and unique Agave spirits. Each spirit is paired with a flavor meant to enhance its essence. I saw like chocolate or coffee bean or other things, right? Some tequilas are exclusive to La Cava experience and are not available anywhere else in the world. Wow. Okay, so 180 bucks La Cava experience. And it’s actually doesn’t happen in the La Cava venue. Oh, really, it actually happens at La Hacienda. Oh,

Kelli 20:48
de San Ha, okay, that’s interesting. Yeah. I mean, I’m not gonna do that one because I haven’t had tequila since

Chris 20:54
May of 2021 we don’t need to go into that, but, but for sure, yes, I get it.

Kelli 21:00
But that does sound lovely for people who enjoy tequila.

Chris 21:05
You gotta think about this next one though. Okay, learn how to taste wine with Master sommelier George miliotes, oh,

Kelli 21:13
yes, no, I do love George. I do love George.

Chris 21:18
Learn to taste wine like a professional with a blind taste, quote, blind tasting of six different wines that master sommelier one of only 281 in the world, by the way. Gosh, I didn’t realize that. I didn’t either you can be a sommelier thing, or you can be a Master Sommeliers, only 281 of those in the world. Wow. Okay, George. Amelia taste, who owns wine bar, George has hand selected these six wines. Okay, explore the character of each fine wine as he uncovers its provenance, grape variety, vintage and more. Snack on delicious hors d’oeuvres of cheese and charcuterie, and hear George talk about his journey through the wine world and what it takes to be a master sommelier. It does sound lovely 90 minutes. You wanna know what the cost of that one is? Yeah, prices vary. So that tells you something right there

Kelli 22:03
depends on what George picks, right? We tell, we can tell George to pick, pick some bottles, maybe slightly better than what you get at the high V. Keep it low, George. But, I mean, I don’t want to, you know, I’m not looking for Kendall Jackson, but if you could, or something in a box, right? Yeah, but, but I also don’t need $100 bottle,

Chris 22:25
exactly. How about this? Okay, surfing programs at Typhoon Lagoon. Oh, that’s fascinating about this an open or we’re not doing these, but an open or private surfing show off your surfing skills on dozens of waves at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park. Experienced riders can shoot the curl in North America’s largest outdoor wave pool before the before the park opens or after it closes. This is your time to spend some time shredding it

Kelli 22:53
up. That’s cool. So they turn on the wave pool for surfing. Mm, hmm, yep.

Chris 22:58
So each three hour session comes packed with 100 ways broken into sets of 25

Kelli 23:06
three hours, yeah, three hours before the park opens,

Chris 23:09
so 645 in the morning to 945 in the morning, oh, yeah, or 30 minutes after the park closes. That’s the one for three hours. That’s the one. That’s the one for sure. That’s the black time surfing anyway,

Kelli 23:22
that’s the one. Yes,

Chris 23:26
during your private surfing sessions, you can even choose the direction of the waves. Oh, wow. So the open sessions are $245 to $310 depending on when you go, whether you go morning or or evening, and then the prices change if you have evening on the weekends versus driving during

Kelli 23:44
right? Okay, the week

Chris 23:46
the private surfing 1300 to $1,600

Kelli 23:52
really? Yep, feels like a lot.

Chris 23:56
You host your own private event for you, and up to 25 friends. Again, three hours, 100 ways broken into 25 wave segments provide, and you can provide your own playlist that they will play over the loudspeaker at Thai family

Kelli 24:12
game. It’s a lot of money. That’s a lot of money for waves.

Chris 24:15
You can add 50 waves for 750 more

Kelli 24:20
dollars. That’s a lot of money for waves.

Chris 24:25
A lot of money to do some waves.

Kelli 24:27
It’s a lot and it doesn’t come with food, just, I see water,

Chris 24:34
just get out there, squat it up

Kelli 24:37
in a fake ocean. That’s a lot of money. That’s a lot.

Chris 24:43
I also had Emirates patisserie cake decorating experience on here, 200 bucks, but that’s for two people. Okay, you can go in there and they give you a dome cake. And depending on which day you go, you can make the Mickey that everybody’s familiar with, or Emirates choice dome. Cake the Mickey is a chocolate chiffon cake with with chocolate mousse. And the amorex choice dome cake is a lemon chiffon cake with white chocolate mousse.

Kelli 25:09
Chiffon. I think that’s the way to go. I mean, I probably would have thought Genoese, but I think chiffon is definitely the way not a con would not have gone with a would not have gone with the chicane. So this is

Chris 25:23
somewhere in here, how long this is, but it’s a fairly linked experience. And for an extra, I think, $50 you can add a second cake. So if you bring two of you, right, $200 get your cake. I get my cake exactly, and you can take them home. Or if you’re going to continue to explore Disney Springs, they’ll hold it for you. That’s nice and all that. I just want them to show me how to make a mirror glaze. Because, you know, because, you know, they got to use a mirror

Kelli 25:44
glaze for the I’m sure they do a mirror glaze. Yeah. I mean, you got to first make sure that the mousse is completely set before you don’t want the mirror glaze to be gummy. No, no. Not too much gelatin. Not too much. Be careful with the gelatin. Okay.

Unknown Speaker 26:00
Are you ready? I’m ready.

Kelli 26:03
So yesterday was International Women’s Day. Sure was. And so I thought it would be fun to look at some of the women who have changed the Disney landscape. So basically, without these women, Disney would not be what it is today.

Speaker 1 26:17
Okay, right? I like this. So I thought Mary

Kelli 26:21
Blair is on the list, but she’s not first. I mean, they’re not really in any particular order, but the first one that I thought of that’s near and dear to my heart is PL travers, of course. So without her, obviously, Mary Poppins is not part of the Disney canon, and that’s my movie. So that’s a huge deal. I almost did PL Travers plus Julie Andrews, because I also really love Julie Andrews, but I went with just straight PL Travers. Okay, so now the movie Saving Mr. Banks tells a lot of this story, and it is a mostly accurate movie. Okay, it’s mostly accurate that it does show how difficult it was for Walt to get the rights to marry. It did take Walt 20 years to persuade PL Travers to get the rights. Just she really hated Disney. Really hated Disney. I mean, in a very strong, visceral way, she didn’t like Disney. Wow. And she even wrote like movie reviews, scathing movie reviews of Disney movies that had come out. So like when Walt decided this is the movie I want to make, he already knew this is an uphill battle. This lady does not like Disney. I need to

Chris 27:40
get started now, because it’s gonna take me 20 years,

Kelli 27:42
and it took him 20 years. So Walt and Travers argued a lot, a lot, a lot about his portrayal of Mary, specifically the dancing penguin scene. She was very much against that. I mean, Bob and Dick Sherman did an amazing job, but Travers was very much against the dancing penguins, the drawn animation, the Mr. Banks and Mary Poppins stories were a lot darker in her books. So in any case, though, without PL Travers saying yes, Disney canon would be completely different without Mary Poppins, sure. Like and it that is my heart movie, like it’s my favorite movie in the whole wide world. And so she’s, she’s my number one. PL, traverse, watch it tonight. Again, not in any particular order. Okay. Number two is Mary Blair. Okay, so Mary Blair was noted for her prominent role as an artist, animator and designer. Her work is from Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Song of the South and Cinderella. So she has a very distinctive style of drawing, and she actually ended up resigning from Disney because the animators struggled with her 2d drawings because they were so colorful. They really struggled with her use of color and her 2d type drawing she was criticized for being overly abstract and too colorful. So she said, forget that. I’ll take my talents elsewhere. And she took them to the advertising industry, where she wrote and did commercials and ads for some of the largest brands you’ve ever heard of. Kidding. She only returned to Disney when Walt personally requested her for it’s a small world, right? So she came back specifically for it’s a small world, and it is signature Mary Blair. Signature Mary Blair. I’ve got some that are older, like Mary Blair, and then some that are more recent. This next one is more recent. Jennifer Lee. Jennifer Lee was the first female director of a Disney Animation Studio. Feature film. Do you want to guess which one?

Speaker 2 30:02
Oh, frozen. Okay, I didn’t guess at all. No,

Kelli 30:06
you didn’t. I could tell you were taking too long. So she was the first female director, but she also wrote part of frozen. Oh

Chris 30:13
yes, we saw a lot about her in those in the documentaries about Yes. And

Kelli 30:17
so she also wrote frozen, too. She became the first female director of a feature film that earned more than $1 billion in gross box office revenue. Okay, so she was the first female director of a Disney Animation Studios feature film, but then first female director of any feature film that earned more than 1 billion gross box office revenue. She eventually became the first woman, Chief Creative Officer at Disney, until last year, 2024 when she stepped down to do any guesses,

Chris 30:50
well, the rest of the frozen movies? Yes, she wanted

Kelli 30:53
to return back to full time filmmaking cool, so she stepped down to write and direct frozen three and four.

Chris 31:00
I think they’re gonna do four and five. Well, this was just three

Kelli 31:04
and four. Okay, before Disney. Fun fact, she worked as a graphic artist in publishing, designing audiobooks for Random House. Isn’t that fun? That’s fun. Okay, next one, Leota tombs. Oh

Chris 31:18
yes, you know Leota? Well, she’s, she’s a model for,

Kelli 31:22
she’s the face of madam so Leota Toomes is most widely known as the face of Madame. Leota, again, which is why she made my list, obviously, from Disney’s haunted mansion. She also worked as an imagineer on several Disneyland attractions. Fun Facts. Here and it goes her daughter Catherine Irvine has gone on to become the art director at Disneyland. Her most recent success was leading the team in the creation of Star Wars Galaxy’s edge. So Leota daughter designed Star Wars Galaxies edge at Disneyland. Yes, Leota daughter, Catherine had a daughter who she named, who is Leota, his granddaughter. This person is Ali Irvine Wheeler. She is also an imagineer at Disney, and has recently given birth to her own daughter, who she named Leo. I love these women. This whole little Leota

Speaker 1 32:18
family died in the wool. Love it. I love it so

Kelli 32:23
much. This is a whole little Disney Family, and I love it. Love it. Love it, love it. Okay, so we’ve got so far then. Pl travers, Mary Blair, Jennifer Lee and Leota Toombs. The next one is probably, I’m gonna say, the biggest. You’ll find her on a lot of lists. Me, Mary Blair was on a lot of lists, but you’ll find this on a lot of lists too. Harriet burns. He’s familiar with Harriet

Chris 32:44
the name, yes, but I can’t remember

Kelli 32:47
what she was. The first woman hired as an Imagineer. Okay, she constructed sets and props for Mickey Mouse Club, and she also created the model for Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland. So essentially, that’s the way Imagineers would work for things like the castles or the rides, is they create a tiny model of it. That’s their design, and then it gets turned into the real thing. She designed models for the Matterhorn, bobsleds fired. You would love her for that. And of course, that is, she designed as a replica of the famous Matterhorn in Switzerland, right? So her, her model was a replica of the Matterhorn, and her model became the model for the Matterhorn.

Chris 33:33
Yeah, I don’t know the Matterhorn is beautiful. Yes, I’m not gonna give her. She didn’t assemble the bobsled. Bobsled was probably some man. Of course

Kelli 33:43
it was. She did build an exact model of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. So she built the model for the pirate ride, which opened in 1967 and she also served as a figure finisher on pirates mannequins. I’m gonna tell you more about what a finisher does in just a second. Okay? She also designed the Haunted Mansion. So she made the model for the Haunted Mansion, which opened in 1969 right? I mean, this lady had some stuff, right? Okay, so a finisher, what a finisher does is they go in, literally with tiny paint brushes and clothing, and take the models from basic painting to perfected mannequin. Okay, so she was a finisher. As a finisher, she applied individual feathers to all of the animatronic birds in Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, which opened in 1963 and she says that was her most challenging job, because when the birds would breathe out, they looked great, but when they breathed in, their feathers crumpled and looked like they had mites. She said that was the most challenging finishing job she had.

Chris 34:55
I don’t want my birds to look they’ve got mites. I love

Kelli 34:58
her for it. She was. Also the first woman to receive a main street window with a commemorative plaque to honor her work, and in 2000 she was donned a Disney legend by The Walt Disney Company as an employee quote whose imagination, talents and dreams have created the Disney magic that is awesome. So I’m a big fan of Harriet burns, for sure. There were a lot of other women that could have made this list that I didn’t put on because they weren’t like the first woman to do this, or first woman to do that. Lillian Disney, for example, is responsible for naming the Mouse Mickey instead of Mortimer instead of Mortimer, right? Right? So there’s a lot of other women that did things like that, but I was like, I want to pick ones a that say Disney to me, right? So that’s gonna be Leota and PL trust, still, but still groundbreaking, but still groundbreaking women, right? But then also ones who did maybe more than one thing, right? The first woman to do this, and the first woman to do this, and she was cool because she did this, yeah,

Chris 36:05
right, yeah. Well, I think you nailed it. I think your list is, is perfection. So

Kelli 36:09
I thought that was fun. So we’ve got Harriet burns Leota tombs and all of

Chris 36:14
her progeny. Yes,

Kelli 36:15
Lee, the whole Leota dynasty, Jennifer, Lee, Mary, Blair and PL Travers. It’s a great women who have completely changed the Disney landscape.

Chris 36:28
All Praise be to all you wonderful women out there. And what was International Women’s Day. International

Kelli 36:34
Women’s Day, literally just the world would not exist without women. We have given birth to everybody,

Unknown Speaker 36:42
so you’re

Chris 36:44
all welcome. You deserve all your flowers. I’ve

Kelli 36:46
given birth to zero people, but you’re all welcome.

Chris 36:49
Yes, you you deserve all your flowers. Hope you all get up, get all the praise you deserve. Thank you all so much for your contributions, including the wonderful women of Disney that you

Kelli 37:02
Yeah. And so my ears were adjacent, because it was many Yes. But also I thought they were Mary Poppins ears,

Unknown Speaker 37:13
right? They were adjacent two ways,

Kelli 37:14
adjacent in multiple directions. Yes, you know, there’s,

Chris 37:17
I saw the video that there is actually a a small, hard to find plaque like in Boston, in the ground at Hollywood Studios celebrating Mortimer. Oh, but Lillian. Lillian fixed that for us.
