Welcome aboard Disney fam welcome aboard indeed Disney fam. My name is Chris and I’m Kelly. And well you don’t know is this the third time we’ve started this because I can’t remember which buttons to press after doing this for three years. You’re

Kelli 0:43
so focused on being mean to me that you’re put continually pushing the wrong button. That’s not that’s so maybe we focus on something different. Like your beautiful ears like my beautiful NaVi ears. Robbie Norris. What’s your topic adjacent? And don’t get enough love. I don’t wear these ears enough. But I love the way they fit like with the front headband.

Chris 1:06
That’s that’s it’s really it’s really cool.

Kelli 1:09
I like it.

Chris 1:09
Cool. I mean, not not just cute. No,

Kelli 1:11
no, it’s a cool. I’m a cool NaVi.

Chris 1:14
You are a cool. So yeah, I’ve

Kelli 1:16
should wear these ears more often. I don’t. So I’m really embracing them this week, since they are topics with Jason. Jason. Hey, honey, did anybody listen to us this week? Yes, we

Chris 1:29
had downloads from Akron, Ohio. So classic little town south of Cleveland Cleveland, home of the zips of the University of Akron zips zips to have a kangaroo, obviously, as their course mascot. Corvallis, Oregon, in Corvallis. It’s halfway between Eugene and Salem and home of the beavers of Oregon State’s SCOBYs Glassboro. It’s totally bogus. Their mascot, not appropriately Glassboro New Jersey, which I think sounds very English. I think Glassboro Nice.

Kelli 2:08
To me, like a tailor made entirely out of class, which

Chris 2:12
would be totally cool. It’s not I saw some pictures. She little town though. Okay, and Zoe’s Belgium is home to fence and castle. And someone that downloaded quite a few of our episodes.

Kelli 2:26
Did you have Google pronounced that? I did. And that’s how good I am pronouncing.

Chris 2:29
This is where we get stuck every time. This is why we’re the third time doing this. Oh, no, no, no, no this because yeah, because I can’t grief about

Kelli 2:37
zombies. Well, because I’m just saying the person that I know that is from Belgium. Sounds French.

Chris 2:45
Where do you meet him?

Kelli 2:47
His name is Eric, you’ll

Chris 2:48
poro Where do you meet him?

Kelli 2:50
I’ve met him in a lot of places he travels the world. Most recently, I saw him on a trip to the movie theater. We were set aside we were there for a movie that was kind of Halloween ish. And, and that was the most recent time that I’ve seen him and he often gets confused for being French when he is in fact Belgian. And so I think perhaps you’ve mispronounced the town of

Chris 3:17
pronouncing exactly.

Kelli 3:19
I don’t think so. That’s not how aircool Paltrow would pronounce it. And you know, I’m just saying I do tend to have a very good French accent you do so maybe

Chris 3:31
you do is through all the practice all the practice maybe we’re gonna get to hear that again. That amazing French accent I helped you in the next week or so to help you but okay, I’m going on to one on the main street here. I’m going to press the right button please do.

Kelli 3:45
Oh my goodness. Would you look at that it’s the news button.

Chris 3:49
Got it. Okay. So Disney subpoena documents from government offices and officials. But they’re they’re subpoenaing documents for other special tax districts like the Reedy Creek next is likely to show how the governor’s office has specifically targeted Reedy Creek entirely based on their opposition to the adults a gay bill

Speaker 1 4:15
should not be difficult to prove that I know I wouldn’t think it’d be difficult to

Chris 4:19
prove that either. So see how that all turns out. Some fun stuff. Poo meet and greet is back at Christopher’s crystal Robins room at Epcot. That’s over in the UK in the UK. Meat poo. Sure.

Kelli 4:34
I mean Mary is really who people go visit over there and sometimes Alice,

Chris 4:38
Alice, but okay, but He’s weird. That’s a weird sentence to say you.

We are children today. He’s got his own little Meet and Greet place. He’s got a whole room Christopher Robin dream.

Kelli 4:56
I don’t think I’ve ever been in Christopher Robbins is Chris also there. Don’t worry, it’s just poo poo in Chris’s room

Chris 5:03
got some semantic satiation going on here around the word poo so I’d like to move on to poop poop poop world celebration now that it’s opening up you know with all the walls are starting to come down world celebration castmember uniforms were revealed last week pretty sharp looking. They hearken to Spaceship Earth without being like gaudy right because imagine imagine like if you had a shirt that looked like Spaceship Earth that design Oh,

Kelli 5:38
okay. They look like the Spaceship Earth people outfits like

Chris 5:44
they they’ve got like a little design on them that better but not gaudy? turns your eye towards that. Yeah, subtle Spaceship Earth. sort of theme. Little futuristic but comfortable. I like them sharp. So yeah, galactic starcruiser tickets last voyage

Kelli 6:01
saw that people were like crying or crying it was really Yeah, the rich people tears crying on social I really felt sad.

Chris 6:11
It was amazing to see the photo of the cast members though that make it go and like how how few of them there were Yeah, kind of amazing there. Yeah, they could have that kind of an impact with so few people. The Villas at Disneyland Hotel This is a DVC resort has opened up Yes.

Kelli 6:28
That’s look beautiful, man.

Chris 6:31
I feel like we’re gonna have to make that happen one time. Studios grand studios one and two bedroom villas and three bedroom grand villas.

Kelli 6:39
Villa. Love a game changer. That is why you become DVC members for the villas

Chris 6:45
for the villas. Yeah. Because otherwise, I’d had to. I had to sell kids. Honestly. I’m still another we make enough money. I

Kelli 6:54
don’t think we’d make enough money off of that. How much your kids can afford these days?

Chris 6:58
It’s a lot. It’s expensive. I could tell you to sell them

Kelli 7:02
or to keep up I don’t know.

Chris 7:06
Probably both. So last week, last week, kind of a cool thing happened I don’t know if you this was in your sphere of of collusion. But I’ve

Kelli 7:18
known cool things Disney

Chris 7:20
plus ESPN and the NFL presented Toy Story Fun Day football. Did you hear about this?

Kelli 7:25
I did hear about it. Okay, great. See I am fully animated real

Chris 7:29
time. Alternate presentation of the Falcon the Jaguars game that took place in London. It was like so imagine all the players are turned in Toy Story characters. They’re playing in Andy’s room. Right? It was in Andy’s room. Okay. And the plays are actually happening in real time. They recreated as Toy Story characters on the on the floor Vandy. surance fantastic. It was amazing.

Kelli 7:53
I mean, I didn’t watch it but I knew it was happening because I am a cool personal person. Yep. On all of the news all

Chris 7:59
things that you already

Kelli 8:04
said today. You’ve been very mean in the first two takes people

Chris 8:11
the trailer for wish came out and it became the most viewed trailer in online platforms for Disney since frozen, too, with over 66 million views. How the first few hours? Yeah, yeah, I’m starting to get pretty excited about about this. Okay. I haven’t seen that trailer. This movie starting to get pretty excited about it. Okay. Disney donated a $1.5 million to various Florida causes, like 18 different causes. Everything from from like LGBTQ causes. Folks that are the that say like, need some artful, bionic limbs. It’s cool. It’s really cool. There’s I mean, like I said, there’s 18 of them. And they span the gamut of, of everything. Like there’s there’s a gardens, too, and it’s great. Yeah,

Kelli 9:12
we definitely want to be horrible to companies that are donating millions of dollars to causes in the state. That’s always the way to go.

Chris 9:20
Definitely the right always the way to go. So here’s something fun, the candlelight. I can’t believe we’re even talking about this. We’re already at this point in the year but the candlelight processional dinner packages, the detail the pricing details have been released, but also the full list of of narrator’s for the candlelight processional has come out. Oh, gosh, that’s feels early. It does feel early, but it’s really not. That’s the thing. I

Kelli 9:45
can’t believe we’re already here. Anybody major that we need to know well, I

Chris 9:49
mean, there’s some there’s some old favorites. Neil Patrick Harris. Harris. John Stamos is going to be there. Marlee Matlin, those are some but there’s a lot a lot of new ones. A lot of new is Brendan Fraser which I think is really made

Kelli 10:03
a comeback this year? You don’t want him saying yeah, like from the 90s you know Encino Man. Yeah, no, that’s really all I know him to mommy.

Chris 10:13
He was in the mummy movies. I didn’t see that. Yeah, they were they were fun. He had that had that movie The whale this year that was see it was really good.

Kelli 10:20
See it? He is Encino Man. That’s the best I’ve got for him. And I’m sure he wishes that he wasn’t. That’s all I know.

Chris 10:28
He was also in scrubs. He played like a little nonrecurring character and never

Kelli 10:33
saw that. So ya

Chris 10:36
know, Eva Longoria. Wow, okay, you’re gonna love this one. Okay. Joey McIntyre. Oh, my gosh. I know

Kelli 10:45
you know in syncs got like a massive secret they’re keeping

Chris 10:49
Yeah, but he’s not in sync. Oh, wait, what’s he’s come on.

Kelli 10:53
New Kids on the Block.

Chris 10:55
Oh my gosh, I can’t believe you did.

Kelli 10:57
I did miss that. Did you totally mess that up in Kayo TB Joey Mac in your wheelhouse was just a baby was now he’s what? 78

Chris 11:06
like he’s a baby still. Sterling K Brown is new this year. who that is? Don’t you would know him from marvelous Mrs. Maisel. He was shy Baldwin’s manager.

Unknown Speaker 11:19
Wow, gosh, I Yeah.

Kelli 11:22
Did you have to google that? Or did you just know maybe it went off top your head? No, I knew that’s

Chris 11:26
where it because he’s he’s in a he’s in 1000 things. Yeah, he was also in Black Panther.

Kelli 11:31
I know. But I don’t think so. Show off that skill enough.

Chris 11:33
It’s a pretty useless skill, but I wish it was an amazingly useful skill. Audra McDonald. She was in the live action Beauty and the Beast. Chrissy Metz from this is us that TV show this is us. Luis Fonzie Esposito st Esposito, this seat, and Margaret. Which? Oh my gosh. Bye bye, birdie. And leave a Las Vegas fame. She’s 82 I’m sure she’ll do great. Wow. But yeah, so a lot of new people. Yeah,

Kelli 12:06
some standards but like a lot of new folk a lot. And so Whoopi Goldberg is a no,

Chris 12:11
I don’t see she’s not on the list. Lisa Ling is coming back. That’s fantastic one. Steven Curtis Chapman. No, no Susan Lucci. SEMO, seemingly, who played Shang Chi in the 10 rings. He’s coming back. Marlee Matlin. I think I said her. So okay, that

Kelli 12:30
sounds like a fun list. I mean, it’s not great people that I knew.

Chris 12:35
It’s gonna be, it’s gonna be great. It’s always great. If you have an opportunity to go see it. Go see it. It’s always amazing. Absolutely. Okay, so Mallanna meet and greet is now open it up cotton, which makes sense, but it will have no impact on the Mallanna Meet and Greet at Animal Kingdom. So you can still see her there. She’s

Kelli 12:51
hard to find, don’t come here and tell me we’ve got multiple meet and greet. She’s available a lot of them. We’ve really tried to find mo before and she is very difficult. Easier

Chris 13:01
to find these days off dancing on the beach. Last time we went we didn’t go to animal kingdom. And so you know,

Kelli 13:08
I’m just saying we looked for we looked for when her movie was still very, very new and popular. She’s out and about these days Good for her. I’m glad they’re no longer oppressing Molana and they’re letting her have

Chris 13:18
her dark ever day. Disneyland Paris is launching a new drone sequence to be inspired by the Main Street Electrical pay break as part of their new lifetime show. We

Kelli 13:29
need to find that on YouTube.

Chris 13:30
I know. I know. That will be cool. Yeah, it is. And behind the attraction season two is coming to Disney plus on November the first this kind of I love this explains like how they came up with the ideas for all the attractions and there’s some there’s some fun ones that they’re going to be doing this year. So I’m excited about

Kelli 13:51
that. What you’re watching the other night, where they were showing us the backside of Hana major how

Chris 13:55
automation came to be Yeah, that’s cool. Definitely. All right. You ready for Tomorrowland? Yep, I’m ready. That’s me. That’s right. It’s me.

Kelli 14:02
It’s me. I’m Tomorrowland. We switched last week. I

Chris 14:06
know. I know. I’m Tomorrowland. But go for it. Go for

Kelli 14:11
it. Why are you messing things up?

Chris 14:15
I’m clearly not with it. Clearly, you’re

Kelli 14:16
not that we’re not doing a tank four. So last week, when we were still recovering from illness, it was the magic kingdom’s birthday. Yes, that’s right. And so we were going to celebrate the future of the Magic Kingdom talking about what is coming next. Now you’ve already done some of this when you gave the little D two three right blurb right. So I’m just going to hit slightly on that. And then we’re going to take it in a slightly different direction. Okay. So first of all, at D two, three. This is a quote. They said the expansion plans for Magic Kingdom are the largest ever for the park and it is similar in scope to Galaxy’s edge and Pandora, okay, so we’re talking a whole new land. Okay, they didn’t say that but that’s what they said. And that’s

Chris 15:09
we’re going that’s what led us to believe and here’s

Kelli 15:12
what we know. They said they want to tell stories beyond Big Thunder Mountain so we know the land is going to be back there. Also confirmed already have bought ghost is coming to haunted mansion in late November. He’s going to be right after the endless hallway. Okay, we know country bear jamboree is getting new songs and a new act. And we know there’s going to be a lounge for Pirates of the Caribbean and eventually and right so none of that is part of this big land expansion. Those are things we should know that have been confirmed for Magic Kingdom that are separate from this. A lot of what if ideas had been thrown around? Right? What if it’s Coco? Okay, well, Coco really owns Mexico and Epcot. So I don’t think we’re gonna see a CoCo land in Magic Kingdom Okay? in Kanto. in Kanto. We, you gave us the preview of that it looks, it appears that it’s coming to Animal Kingdom back there where the Dinah land was. Okay. And then there was some hints at one point about a Disney villain land, which could still be possible, but I’ve given my thoughts on that already. That’s another episode if you would like to go back and listen to that. Okay. So I’m saying it’s not going to be any of those. Okay. Okay. All makes sense. Here’s what I think it’s going to be if we’re talking about brand new land something that can be a land, right? Not just a ride. Yeah, sure. Okay. Because in Kanto is really like Casita, you know, and in the world. What else? Right, so we need something that can be a land something I sincerly arrived, right. So I think what we’re going to see is

Chris 16:54
what conda you think what, conda at Magic Kingdom?

Kelli 16:57
I think we’re gonna see what kind of Magic Kingdom Oh, wow. And I don’t think it’s gonna be called what? conda? Right. I think it’s gonna be something land. Right? But it’s gonna be what? conda right? Just like Galaxy’s edge in Star Wars, Star Wars, but it’s right. Okay. So first of all, I think what we’re going to see is lots of water and greenery. Okay, right. I think Magic Kingdom needs that. It’s going to fit into that vibe. Behind Big Thunder Mountain a lot of water and greenery already. There’s a river over there. Yeah, and I think it can be hidden very easily behind Big Thunder Mountain. And I think that’s going to be the key to Wakanda is that you’re not gonna see it from the rest of the park. Okay, okay. Okay. It’s gonna be like hidden situation. This opens the door for underwater adventures.

Chris 17:48
All right, the second Matala con right.

Kelli 17:51
So this is missing from Florida. But there are some of it at Tokyo Disney Sea. Right So Disney has experience with underwater adventures and even a little bit in Paris that Nautilus that Nautilus thing that we went down and

Chris 18:04
there’s a there’s a Nemo and friends experience, I think in Disneyland, right.

Kelli 18:09
So this opens the door for some underwater adventures that aren’t really in Florida that I think would be super, super cool. Okay. It could also be immersive, like Pandora and galaxies edge and that’s what they said is they want it to be an immersive land. Sure. Right. So you’ve got like galaxies edge with multiple Star Wars rides, Pandora with multiple Pandora rides. And now here we can easily have one conda with multiple Wakanda writes, I’ve got ideas on that. Okay, but in any case, I think Wakanda is enough to be alive for sure. Very rarely, if you incorporate telecon Yep, yeah, okay. And the more okay, this will bring a lot of diversity to Magic Kingdom Sure, which they’ve been trying to bring right so that’s why they’re re skinning thing that’s why they redid Jungle Cruise that’s why we added some diversity to small world right they’ve been trying to bring it in but the reality is diversity is lacking in Magic Kingdom there’s not really a lot that’s currently there. And frankly, a lot of it that was there was racist and some still needs to be updated the the Native American representation and Peter Pan’s Flight definitely needs an update. Definitely update Tiger Lily. So I mean, there’s a lot that Magic Kingdom needs. And I think this would bring a lot of diversity cool to magic, which I really love. It also celebrates powerful women, right so sort of moving away from we all want to be a princess to what I really want to do is kick that guy’s butt. Right? Give me a spear and let me have at it. Right. Tons of girl jet eyes walking around with light Sabres and Galaxy’s edge. You see a lot of superheroes in the Marvel area. Like there’s their space for that for woman and girl empowerment besides being a beautiful princess. Sure. And I think that’s important. Imagine for example, a show of the Dora Melosh. Sure, right. We all want to see the Dermalogica show. Sure we but if we watch them fighting an invasion from Tala Khan, oh my god,

Chris 20:29
yeah, yeah, right.

Kelli 20:31
This could be

Chris 20:32
a water water amphitheater.

Kelli 20:33
Yes. Like this would be so huge. Yes, this would be fantastic.

Chris 20:39
Like have half the actors just come up out of the water. That’s the first time we see them.

Kelli 20:43
Right? Like this is, that’s a show that is needed. Okay, that’s a show that’s needed. Okay. This also add something to Magic Kingdom for older kids, teens and parents, which again, is missing. Tripe. Magic Kingdom is sort of widely known as cartoon characters and princesses and water rides, and things like that. And so now you’ve got the like Tron, which definitely speaks to more of that crowd. But if you had an entire land for them, oh my gosh, that would be amazing. Amazing. Okay, so this has the opportunity to bring just a hugely inclusive air into the Magic Kingdom in a way that is empowering. And I think it is really necessary. Obviously, we need a ride that similar to flight of passage where we’re flying the planes that Sheree invented, Oh, you think so? Like, well, we stick our hands into the sleeves like, yeah, you know, like, I want to call him Watson.

Chris 21:47
Are you do? The CIA? Martin Freeman’s character, the CIA guy,

Unknown Speaker 21:52
right.

Kelli 21:56
We want to be able to stick our hands in there. Clearly, we need to simulate or try to control sure he can whip that kind of thing up for us. Sure. So I know that some for sure we can do right. This is a franchise that’s going to keep going, right? We just met to chollas son in the last one. So this franchise is not over. It’s gonna keep growing. So that way,

Chris 22:22
nothing else it can grow right here in this in this land. Right. That’s what I’m saying.

Kelli 22:28
Right, where? Like, I always remember thinking when they were building Pandora, like, Isn’t that an old movie? Right? Why are we just now building Pandora land? That was years and years ago? They build the Pandora land suddenly, it’s more interesting. And they launch another movie. Right? Build Wakanda now Yeah, so that we can you know, enjoy it as the franchise grows. It’s gonna be more tech advanced than Tomorrowland or future world. Yeah, yeah, I take baths in a way that none of the parks have seen, which would be huge for Magic Kingdom to have that level of tech back there. Well, condens are super healthy, fresh fruit, veggies, greens, and some potentially interesting meats. So this would bring more African cuisine to the parks that we usually only see during like Epcot festival or the animal kingdom. Right? Again, this is going to add to the healthier and interesting options at the park, which I think is one of the best things about Galaxy’s edge is their food options, right? Really unique unlike anything you get anywhere else now. As much as I would love to have that kept on hummus platter at all of the parks every day. I’m at Disney. Sure. It gives me something to get excited about in Galaxy’s edge. So I think they could do something really cool with food. They absolutely could. And then finally, I’ve had 10 things here that I’ve gone down the list, but this is number 10 merch made of Vibranium build your own weapon. Can I eat the heartshaped herb?

Chris 24:03
Oh, oh right. Art shape or desert. Right?

Kelli 24:08
Do you see what I’m saying? This is a land this isn’t a ride. This is a land Yeah, for sure. And I think back there behind current water and green area and Magic Kingdom is the perfect perfect place for it.

Chris 24:25
You know they’ve got Avengers campus, both in Paris and in California. But here the Marvel offering, which we don’t really have, other than you know, maybe do even have anything over in Hollywood Studios. I don’t know. So the Marvel offering in Florida should be not another Avengers campus. But But uh, what will conda adjacent?

Kelli 24:47
Well, I mean, the reality is they could still put Avengers campus Hollywood Studios which is where that should go. Right. That’s where that should go.

Chris 24:55
I know that they have a dorm allies but that attractive show in the victress camp, which

Kelli 25:00
is fine, that’s one little tiny show. I’m looking for an amphitheater. I know. Okay, you see what I’m saying? Like the dorm collage is going to is going to beat up taller con people twice a day every day. That’s what I think the world wants. And so that’s what I’m saying. Not taking Marvel out of that still build Marvel Avengers Avengers campus at Hollywood Studios. I don’t we haven’t heard anything about that. But I think that’s something they should do. Sure, whatever. But this is this is bigger than Avengers campus. Do you see what I’m saying?

Chris 25:33
Maybe this is this is.

Kelli 25:35
This is bigger than that. It’s

Chris 25:37
bigger than that. This is diversity and empowerment and awesomeness

Kelli 25:41
for people who want to come to Disney for that level of entertainment. Don’t put it all at one park, put it at multiple parks, so they have to buy multiple day tickets. Right so you’re saying like, at the end of it Disney is still you know, capitalistic.

Chris 25:58
Sure sure.

Kelli 25:59
So I think that’s a winning idea. You’re all welcome.

Chris 26:04
You could given them you’re given them ideas details about what kinda and the villain slant

Kelli 26:09
I really have. And I also gave them a fantastic ideas for Mary Poppins, Epcot, which they just completely discarded, but I haven’t I haven’t given up hope for that. I still think Mary Poppins is going to come to Epcot one day, but clearly not in Chris’s room was

Chris 26:26
clearly not. But in any case,

Kelli 26:28
I love what conduct the Magic Kingdom. That’s what I’m casting my vote for, what conda and telecom. So you

Chris 26:35
would have this before the villains land was who you choose.

Unknown Speaker 26:43
Okay, yeah.

Kelli 26:44
Well, I mean, like, technically Neymar is a villain, but he’s a very lovable villain. I agree. Yeah. Well, like you have sympathy for his. For his play. Yes. You have sympathy for his plight, which I think is important and a villain. You know, we don’t get that from other golf or Arsenal or anything like that. But we do have sympathy for Nemours plight and his people. So I think this is bringing a water adventure to Magic Kingdom. Sure, which is brilliant. It’s brilliant. And you’re welcome.

Chris 27:17
I don’t know what we would all all of us would do without you,

Kelli 27:20
either. Why am I not an Imagineer? Well, they just keep me on staff for this kind of stuff. Like they

Chris 27:26
should, don’t you? I’m also going to celebrate the 52nd birthday of the Magic Kingdom by being Magic Kingdom focused here. I’m really going to drill in to something on Main Street that oftentimes we just walk past and don’t think much of, you know, everything. Everything has a story. Yeah. Everything has a story, including the Main Street confectionary, on Main

Kelli 27:51
Street, you saying that this was Tomorrowland. That’s clearly not at least Tomorrowland. Well, that was again a mistake that you’ve

Chris 27:59
made. So many of them money, so many of them. So the main street confectionary assay that the the most recent iteration of the mainstream confectionery has a story. I love that they give stories every literally everything. And I learned about this and I loved it. It got its first real story backstory in 1998. You see, when the main street confectionary expanded the first time I think it overtook, like a hat shop or a or a photo, like buy film here, type shop. And so here was the story back then, by the way, huge thanks to Jim korkis, who’s a contributor at mouse planet.com. He did all the research behind this. Okay, thanks, Jim. Yeah, so, this was the story that was adopted in 1998. When the Main Street confectionery explained to people sitting around in 1998, making up a story, story story confectionery.

Kelli 28:58
I know, I think they could have me on staff.

Chris 29:00
I know it’s a one way street today. Thomas and Kitty McCrum This is the story. Thomas and Kitty McCrum had run a candy store on Main Street for as long as anyone could remember. In fact, they became famous for their sweet creations. But Thomas McCrum was never one for resting on his laurels. He was always looking for new and exciting ways to improve his candy making and increase the business on a fateful trip to Chicago for the World’s Columbian Exposition in 1893. This was really the Chicago World’s Fair. Yeah, well,

Kelli 29:30
a lot of stuff happened there. I mean, if you read the Devil in the White City, I have not

Chris 29:35
McCrum found inspiration. He and his wife entered the Expos storied machinery Hall and were mesmerized by the mechanical machinations on display. Upon returning home McCrum set out to duplicate some of what he’d seen applying the wondrous new innovations to the creation of chocolate and other delicacies. He moved quickly from prototypes and test recipes to full blown production in no time. The McCombs little candy store has had expanded, pushing into nearby storefronts and taking over an entire corner of the town square. So if you think about the town square right now, at the turn of the 20th century, the McCombs Main Street confectionary is poised and ready to take advantage of a new era of technological advancement, the electric age, Kenny McCrum, of course, has had to hire additional help, especially to get through the busy season when streams of tourists pour forth from the railroad station at the edge of town, but it’s all worth it to see the smiles on their faces. Now if she and Thomas could only stop sampling their own creations. Okay. Now, in the newest iteration of the confectionery, the one you would go into today, there is one piece of memorabilia that harkens back to the McCrum storyline, okay, okay, because the new storyline isn’t really McCrum focused.

Kelli 30:49
So but we’re still on the second storyline.

Chris 30:53
We are currently living in the second story today in real life, right. But and, but there is one little piece of memorabilia on the walls in the in the confectionery today. that harkens back to the original Thomas and Katie McCrum storyline. Okay, it’s a framed article clipping from the Main Street Gazette that reads this yesterday and it’s from when it when they launched their expansion. Yesterday marked the official groundbreaking for the forthcoming expansion of the Main Street confectionery development, thanks in no small part, to the equally groundbreaking chocolate innovations of local treat makers Mars, as in Mars candy bars. It is their creation, the Milky Way chocolate bar and the immediate and consistently overwhelming crowds it has drawn to the mainstream confectionery that has made today possible. Wow. Joined that was one of that was what he created with his new machinery. Right. Okay. Joining the mayor as participants in the town square ceremony, where both Katie and her husband Dr. Thomas Crum. Remember Dr. Thomas Crum, who had the distinct honor and privilege of temporarily and carefully wielding Maurice candy company’s renowned sweet spoon remember that too, on behalf of themselves in the Mars company that McCrum celebrated with and thanked the citizens of Main Street for the ELMO overwhelming response to the Milky Way bar that will make this new chapter of chocolate possible. Alright, so with the new renovation, the confectionery expanded again. So in today’s confectionery, their most recent expansion grew again, with a much more open floor plan, and a more obvious Mars bar company influence and the new storyline that is more inclusive while keeping one foot in the past as well. Remember the sweet spoons and the crumbs used to have from Mars? Today’s confectionery introduces us to the sweetest spoon showcase and its winners. It features the finest home confectioner’s in the nation. So today’s confectionary shop, leaned on that sweet spoon or from Mars. And now, it’s all about the sweetest spoon contest. Okay. And so, the whole premise of the storyline is that we’re stepping into the confectionery to sample all the amazing creations that the winners of the contest have come up with. We also learn a lot about the talented people who competed and won. Who were these winners. Okay. There are six characters now featured, and the signs and displays around the shop, share a little bit about them. And this was all part of that same effort to bring more inclusion and diversity into the parks the same kind of thing that happened at Jungle Cruise. Right. Disney introduces us to a super diverse group of people. First we have a gota Kaminsky. So this is an Asian fellow but he’s from Chicago, Illinois. He’s a free spirited music teacher. He enjoys sharing his Polish jelly doughnuts with their students, right? The soffits from Beulah main is the town tailor, but enjoys baking at night to help unwind His specialty is the chocolate ruthless sorry, this is the Asian guy now is Toshi Hayakawa is a Main Street USA firefighter okay and puts out flames by day but turns up the heat in the kitchen at night in his perfecting his family’s 300 year old rice cake recipe. Willie Anderson from Tulsa Oklahoma enjoys spending time with his family in his family’s bookstore, learning all he can about everything. Right now his obsession is pound cakes. And his mother says when he’s not reading his hands are on a spoon, a guitar or a hammer. Weird doctor. I’ll soon say Tabor comes from the Blackfeet Nation in Montana. She’s Native American American graduate students join her on her adventures in the field as she specializes in indigenous cuisines. Her research assistant shares when you’re digging up bones, nothing’s better than snacks that stick to your ribs. Okay, and then lastly is Sonia Sanchez in her kitchen in Brooklyn New York provides her Puerto Rican neighborhood with Caribbean Sweet Treats crowds lineup in the streets to buy key Seto sprinkled with less than yours signature cinnamon sugar. Now I think it is I think it’s soffits from Beulah main. This is the town Taylor who enjoys baking has a LGBTQ life partner so very because they’ve got stories on all of you got stories so there’s their posters around the confectionery, you had to go look for them that tell you, these are the winners and here’s their stories and here’s a quote from someone in their life. Saul’s someone and his life quote is from his heart. These aren’t real people. Okay, these are just this. This is the entire story that was made up for the new confectionery now. We are in there. Yep. So not only will you find the character stories in quotes, but you also find other touches featuring the contests and winners throughout the confectionary, a display showing us our champion confectioners spoons highlights the spoons the winners enjoy cooking. So Mars air quotes here has given them sweetest spoon awards and so they get this spoon. Okay, harkens back to the Sweet spoon that Maurice gave the original proprietors in the original storyline. So, as Paul Harvey might say, now for the rest of the story, okay. The hidden in plain sight gag here is that Wouldn’t it be funny for a dentist to own a candy shop? It’s an ingenious way to make sure that the dentist business stays strong. In 1922 Walt Disney was struggling to maintain a viable business in animation. He was shuttering his Laffer grant studios and let go of all of his employees. That is until a Kansas City Dentist approached Disney about creating an animated short that might help communicate to people the importance of taking care of their teeth. Oh my gosh, Disney agreed and was paid by the dentist $500 For what would be Disney’s first educational film, Tommy Tucker’s tooth. The dentist was Dr. Thomas McCrum. And that $500 was the capital that Disney needed to produce his Alice comedies based on the Alice in Wonderland stories, which were viable enough to keep the lights on until Mickey came along in 1929. Wow.

It is absolutely no doubt about it. Not hyperbolic to say that without Dr. Thomas Crum. Disney would not be what it is to all of us today.

Kelli 37:38
Wow.

Chris 37:39
So that was the that’s the real life story by the Thomas crumb Main Street.

Kelli 37:45
That’s awesome. We don’t spend enough time in the confectionery I know but I will next time and that makes and you’re saying it’s like open and it’s got more space. It’s still always crowded. I mean, it is just talking about full every single time you go in and so we’re like going in you know, shoulder to shoulder and then we’re like, okay, I don’t really want to be in here Licious. But that makes me want to go in

Chris 38:09
I know. Because that because you if you go to the right spots, you can actually see them and the right times a day. You can see them making the race candies and cookies and all that kind of stuff in there. Yeah, yeah.

Unknown Speaker 38:19
Do you spell crunch how you spell McCrum?

Chris 38:22
It’s in si si r u m. Thomas McCrone.

Kelli 38:25
Okay, I thought there was like a B on it. Like,

Chris 38:26
I wish there was. They if they had made it up from wholecloth they probably could have just done that. Yeah, but now he

Kelli 38:34
and his wife. They founded Mars. Is that the connection? I don’t know. Maybe like that seems odd that they invented the Milky Way.

Chris 38:42
I know. I know. I didn’t didn’t quite get the connection. There seems

Kelli 38:46
like there’s a connection, but it’s just not quite obvious, right?

Chris 38:50
I think I think Mars was already around. They invented the Milky Way. And so they got the sweet spoon award from Mars.

Kelli 38:58
Okay. And that’s why we see more Mars candies in the confectionery like the m&m. All that exactly.

Chris 39:05
Yes, that’s right. Okay, yeah. So yeah. Are they super cold? That dentist basically that’s it folks. That’s it for this little bit combative episode of Supercalifragilistic awesome Disney podcast.
