- World Showcase
- The Missing Rides that I would LOVE to experience again
- Body Wars (1989 – 2007)
- We did a whole segment on this attraction. But it was super cool and starred Elizabeth Shue, and Otter from Animal House. AKA, VP John Hoynes in West Wing. AKA Tim Matheson
- Honestly the entire Wonders of Life pavilion, which has been teased several time to re-open with various themes – PLAY being the latest.
- Horizons (1983 – 1994) (1995 – 1999)
- Think of riding through scenes similar to Spaceship Earth, but this focused on living life in the future vs. just communication.
- But then you got to choose how you would return to Epcot, either through the desert, from Space, or from an undersea research station.

- I’d even take the Stitch version, although I prefer the super creepy, legit scary version that gave people heart attacks.
- Frankly, this is a HUGE attraction area in Tomorrowland that is going unused – and frankly Tomorrowland could use another major attraction.
- Skyway

- It existed at Disney land from 1954 – 1994

Episode Transcript:
Welcome aboard Disney fam Hello out there Disney fam. My name is Chris and I’m Kelly. This is three weeks in a row we are killing it. This is why this is why our downloads are going to Okay, awesome. And you and you’re wearing your Space Mountain yours.
Kelli 0:49
Where am I supposed to be on ears which I’m going to call a free space mountaineers? I’m gonna call topic adjacent. Okay, their space. Okay, they’re at the wrong Park. But the theme the spaces the theme of space is my topic. on pins and needles so how do you set our downloads are going up?
Chris 1:09
Well, there’s a few people in Louisville, Kentucky. Listen. We’d already done Louisville but I couldn’t find it in the list of cities. And so welcome. Oh, yeah, Kentucky’s largest city on the Ohio River and hosted the Kentucky Derby every May, I think also hometown to Muhammad Ali, I think. Okay. So, welcome and now and now being huge fans of our podcast. Welcome Louisville, Albany, Oregon. Okay, not the Albany I would have thought of originally initially but Albany, Oregon is halfway between Salem and Eugene, Oregon really, really close to Corvallis. So I’m sure there’s some nice beaver fans there.
Kelli 1:45
Okay, awesome. That’s not good. Harvest
Chris 1:48
Alabama. I say moving on harvest Alabama.
Kelli 1:55
Harvest like a lovely little place it is.
Chris 1:57
It is little it’s a little tiny town northwest of Huntsville, Alabama. Not exactly a metropolis, but okay. Very important in the space race. Okay. I’m so excited about this city. Okay. Helsinki, Finland. Helsinki, thank you, which is super fun to say one of the funnest city names to say ever salutely Welcome beautiful and beautiful capital of Finland.
Kelli 2:23
Oh my goodness. Welcome Finland. That’s so exciting.
Chris 2:27
So my Kotori No, I’m
Kelli 2:28
excited about family
Chris 2:29
good. Me too. I think they’re Sweden and Norway. I’d like to visit one day just to go into the northern part of this country. See the Northern Lights, all that fun stuff?
Kelli 2:38
Oh, I was gonna say to feel what it’s like to be in a an apolitical type environment.
Chris 2:44
A little judgment. Okay, sure. Sure, that’s exactly what they’ve got there. You want to jump into Main Street? Yeah, let’s. Okay. Quick thing here. Disney has two lawsuits in action this week, two hearings this week. The both of them against the new Central Florida tourism oversight board, formerly Reedy Creek. They have sued that board for failing to produce records of discovery in a timely manner. And then the second lawsuit is violations for the Florida Public Records Act. So basically, all revolving around the fact that these folks are just dragging their
Kelli 3:26
feet and not doing what they’re supposed to be doing. Exactly. So two hearings on that this week. It sounds like they submitted a FOIA request and they haven’t gotten documents. And then they are not doing other things they’re supposed to be doing. Exactly. And then that’s right to take over and tell somebody they’re wrong, then you’d better be ready to
Chris 3:45
pony up the
Kelli 3:45
precaution t’s and dot your i’s. Yep.
Chris 3:47
So and then the federal court case against Ron DeSantis is currently in court. They’re waiting on a judgment from the judge in that case, related to DeSantis his request to dismiss the lawsuit so we found out what Bob Iger is compensation packets like for the last almost year. Okay. In in total, it was about $31.6 million.
Kelli 4:17
That’s close to what you make.
Chris 4:19
In my dreams last night. Yes, that’s right. Almost it’s almost one I made. Every time I close my eyes and I think about the lottery tickets. It was interesting to me though, his his his base salary is 865 165,000. I actually thought well, that would have been more his base salary, but then he was he had stock awards of $16 million worth of stock of Disney stock. We own Disney stock. We own one and a half we all want to have shares.
So, same, same, same thing. We’re both we are both to shareholders, same time, he got options awards for $10 million and other compensation worth 4.5 million. I wish I had so many compensation line items that there was just another like a, like a rounding other area that totaled up to four and a half million. That’s
Kelli 5:20
gotta be playing trains and automobiles. Right you get this car you get this? Maybe
Chris 5:25
Maybe so yeah, yeah, probably you’re probably right. That all totaled up to about $4.5 million and things you didn’t have to pay for it for the year. Good point there, honey. I take four and a half million dollars of other things that I didn’t have to spend my money on. Absolutely. So absolutely good for you, Bob Iger, I do think you’re doing some good things.
Kelli 5:47
He definitely stepped into
Chris 5:50
a maelstrom for cat foreshadowing. Foreshadowing Yeah. All right. There’s a you can you in a future Tomorrowland segment you can do the Valentine’s food got their Valentine’s food guide for what Disney World has been released? So they do and some? I know how much he like all that.
Kelli 6:14
Well, when I was looking for segments today, why didn’t you say hey, do the Valentine’s food guide that’s been released?
Chris 6:21
I will? That’s a good question. I think why didn’t go there. But I think your topic is perfectly fine. Okay. Let’s see. Disney World teases. A new marijuana themed annual pass holder magnet.
Kelli 6:38
We’re not in your password.
Chris 6:39
I know. And so that makes me like, if we hadn’t just bought tickets.
Kelli 6:46
You know what I will say, though, about our tickets, so we bought multi day tickets, but they are dated. Right? So we tell them we’re gonna start on this day and they go through this day or whatever. When you have dated park tickets now. You don’t have to have Park reservations, right? Yes. Annual Pass holders still need Park reservations. Interesting.
Chris 7:05
Interesting. I think they do have those free days now. But they’re, they’re effectively sort of useless. Yeah. So yeah, so all I’m saying is when we do go might be worth like walking around the parking lots a little bit. See if we can take somebody’s magnet at his house.
Kelli 7:23
Parking lots don’t have 1000s of cameras. Rob. I
Chris 7:27
do. So we’ll send one of the kids to do. As long as they get back to us before the police get into them. we’re golden. This is I use my mind for these kinds of things instead of things that would actually improve our lives. Have you ever heard of Lani Smoot? Lani
Kelli 7:49
Smoot? No.
Chris 7:54
Lani Smoot, you’re gonna love, love what he’s done. Lani Smoot is a Disney legend who has already patented over 100 inventions 74 of which are with Disney Imagineering, including Madame leodis floating head she’s not a Senate sheet to say a lot.
Kelli 8:12
I patented Meliodas floating head
Chris 8:15
we be this is straight from Gizmodo, by the way released this week. You’ll be familiar with his work on that incredible lightsaber he made as real as possible with retractable laser action like what they use. We see it on the on the well we saw it a lot in the in the the cruise ship. That’s not really a cruise ship on the house. Yeah. Thank you so much. I was really having a stroke there. Yeah. He has now made a very real holodeck if you’re familiar with Star Trek. Yes. Holiday holiday inspired invention. A Game changer in the world of VR. Okay, he he says, in a release shared in a video released by Disney parks to celebrate his induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. He released a video of him using what he calls the hollow tile floor. This this floor material, you can literally stand there and walk without ever moving. Oh God. It is the wildest looking thing ever. Like he put a table on the floor, a real tight a real table and then was able just with his hand just to move it around the floor. And then and then he was just standing there in the middle of his floor that he had created just walking. And so he’s like, you can imagine now if I was in a VR sex or VR environment. I could literally walk in any direction for any amount of time. Wow, it’s wild looking. You should go see the video. He has always wanted a holodeck. Well, it’s on its way. Maybe it is on its way we’ve already got an Oculus. We just need a floor when he is out. I’ll tell floor. I’m sure the prices will start coming down. Oh,
Kelli 10:03
I’m sure that a new Apple Oculus type thing is like what? Like $5,000? Yeah, very reasonably priced.
Chris 10:12
I love this. He’s only the second Disney inventor to become a member of the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Ooh, the first was Walt Disney himself for the multi plane camera.
Kelli 10:22
Oh my goodness. How?
Chris 10:24
What an amazing Club exclusive club for him to be in really that cool.
Kelli 10:30
How old is Lanie? Do we know?
Chris 10:32
I think he is. No, I
Kelli 10:35
do not know. He sounds like he’s done a lot. So I would think he’s older. He’s he’s not
Chris 10:40
a young fella. But he looked spry. You
Kelli 10:44
know, wasn’t it in? In Sweet Home Alabama. The movie wasn’t Reese Witherspoon’s character named Melanie Smoot.
Chris 10:51
I think that’s right.
Kelli 10:53
That’s right. It was the whole time you’re talking and also on a Smoot and she changed it to Melanie Carmichael.
Chris 11:00
That’s Yes, I think that’s right. I also think that there’s a there’s a MIT legend, where it was a really short person that would MIT his last name was Smoot. And so they measured the bridge there in Boston near MIT and Smoots. Oh, my goodness. That’s thanks. So I could I could have that wrong, but that was the first thing that’s fantastic.
Kelli 11:21
I mean, great name. Right. So many so many legendary, legendary, legendary name.
Chris 11:30
So a reporter from nola.com recently got a special tour of Tiana’s Bayou adventure with Imagineer Ted Robledo. And he says that there are some little very subtle throwbacks to Splash Mountain that will still remain in the ride. So for all those people that are just having clutching their pearls over losing Splash Mountain, right. Let’s see. The company called inter America stage has worked with Disney time and time again, on their their performance based attractions in their parks. And especially when it comes time to revamp them. They are being incorporated to help Imagineers file permit and install a new audio visual system for the Country Bears. Oh, gosh.
Aren’t you excited about that?
Kelli 12:29
I mean, that is long overdue, honey. I’ll be honest, like if I bought an audio visual system off of Amazon, it would be a huge upgrade for the country Bayer’s.
Chris 12:41
You are now you just you’re just being mean now
Kelli 12:43
not a very good audio visual system. It’s fantastic. The implication I’m making is that it’s fairly old school and it’s mostly just spotlights. I mean, you’re looking at me like that’s not the case.
Chris 12:59
I think the only thing that needs to be fixed is when buff and Melvin and the moose up there, they blink their eyes, there’s a really loud clicking noise. I think that’s the only thing that needs to be fixed. Because that’s not what buffalo moose really sound like, click when they blink their eyes. That’s, that’s not what any animal sounds like when they blink their eyes. That’s the only that’s the only thing that needs to be fixed. I could
Kelli 13:21
fix that with some felt. We’re talking about, like, we’re talking about like an actual audio visual system. I’m just saying I don’t think they’ve really got one right now. Or
Chris 13:33
they’re playing a one string guitar and a washboard. How good does their audio system need to be? It sounds amazing. I walk right out of there singing my little heart out there little jamboree songs. You’re so defensive, but I’m but I’m glad the bears are getting up to speed with the latest technology. I’m sure they’re very excited about or they are so excited. They are wherever they live when they’re not performing. They’re just talking about how they’re gonna use you do it. They launched a country where movie they did actually I think and it was a huge flop. Well, I
Kelli 14:04
mean, I can’t imagine an actual plot. But I’m just saying like, yeah, I don’t know. Okay, whatever. Okay, Tomorrowland is who I am throwing under the bus. So we are going to Disney here in just a few days. Yeah, not I was gonna say not quite two months. And so the way the way I did our reservations this time was on the day that our reservations can be made. I just logged in and reserved everything I could. She did for the days that we’re going to be in the 17 restaurants at Epcot, we’ve got so many reservations and we’re going to end up canceling a lot of them which is why they say if you don’t get your reservations early, don’t fret, because actually getting them the week of is sometimes easier because people cancel, cancel, cancel, and we’re gonna do that we’re gonna cancel a whole boatload. But so anyway, so I started going through to some of the ones that were that were scheduled to go to, that we’ve never been to. And one of those is space to 20. So excited now. Yeah, we said we were super excited. And so today I went through their their menus. And here’s, here’s the thing, I will say a lot of the table service menus have moved towards this prefix menu where it’s a, it’s a fixed price, and you get x, y and z. And while that may sound great, for me, it’s not it’s an epic waste of cash. Sure, because I never get the most expensive entree, right. And they rarely have more than one plant based on tray. Sure. And they don’t have a lot of appetizers for me to choose from. So I’m usually I usually end up spending, not even close to what it would have been if I bought an owl Karcher. And so that’s frustrating for me. While I appreciate the prefix menu, and I can see why it might be a good deal for some. I don’t think it should be mandatory, right. And so I started looking at specifically space to 20 because we got reservations there. We’ve never been able to get reservations before. I did a segment on this in September of 2021 when it originally opened. So it’s been open now for two years, and we haven’t been able to do reservations before we’ve got reservations now. We were able to get reservations for lunch. And so here’s what I’ll say they have lunch pricing, dinner pricing, and then you can go into the lounge. So the lounge
Chris 16:30
and lounges are always sneaky good options. If you don’t use they’re always
Kelli 16:33
good options like Nomad lounge we absolutely love. So I’m really leaning towards us going to the lounge for space to 20. I’m going to go through some of the menu options. I don’t think you get reservations for a lounge I think it’s like Nomad where you sort of first come first serve. So for the adult lunch, it is $55 per person. And that includes an appetizer and an entree. For dinner, it is 75 and you get an appetizer, an entree and a dessert. Now at dinner, there are two more appetizer options and two more entree options with the menu is fairly the same. In the lounge. It’s all of their really cold drinks, right? That’s what that you see in the pictures is the really cool drinks and you can also order all of the appetizers. Okay, so realistically I could go to the lounge and be completely fine. Sure. But you don’t get the full effect at the lounge just I couldn’t eat it Nomad lounge didn’t really get the full effect of eating in the restaurant.
Chris 17:28
I really only have one question about the lounge but I’ll let you keep going. Okay,
Kelli 17:30
so we’re gonna go through some of these and I’ll tell you a few of the, the options for eating. I’m not going to go through all of them, but just some of them. So what they call appetizers are lift offs. Lift off now for kids lunch and dinner is $29 and that includes an entree, a dessert and drink. Okay, but So, appetizers, you’ve got a big bang burrata, which, always good an option burrata mozzarella romesco sauce preserved fruits and focaccia crostini sounds lovely calamari. Nip tuna, tar tar, which is going to be sushi grade yellowfin tuna, okay. Okay, right. An avocado crema, a mango, coolie, edamame, a a wanton crisp and a user dressing. So you can get the idea, right? These are going to be really elevated meals. This is a very high end type experience. where the food is going to look like a lot of what we saw coming out of the house. Yawn. Very space. Ag very, you know, different when you look at it. What in the world?
Chris 18:37
Maybe some of the things you might get over and Galaxy’s edge even.
Kelli 18:41
Maybe, this is gonna be like, when you look at it, you’re gonna be like, what is that foam? Right? You know, what is this crusty thing? You know, it’s going to be really interesting type stuff. They have a Caesar salad, a beet salad, a duck confit? And a Wagyu beef carpaccio. I think if we went to the lounge, I would probably try the burrata. But maybe the Blue Moon cauliflower. Oh, interesting. That is tempura fried cauliflower House made hot sauce and blue cheese dust.
Chris 19:15
You would absolutely try that. But it but I bet it’s a good example of what you’re talking about where it’s meant to be sort of like buffalo cauliflower, which is very popular right now. But not with cheese dressing. Bar. This is Blue cheese does right.
Kelli 19:31
Isn’t that interesting? So those are your lift offs. At dinner. You can also get a curry carrot bisque and a truffle cheese tortellini. I’ll just say I could get either of those from a meal and be totally happy. So I wish they had those at lunch as well. Yeah, that would be great. And again, I would get probably like the burrata and the cheese tortellini, and that’d be my meal. Right? And that’s not 75 bucks. That’s not That’s not 75 or $55. And so I wouldn’t it’d be closer to like $25 for the main course you’ve got the rocket flame seared tuna, which is a phenol spice rub tuna loin, an eggplant kapa kapa nata arugula and H balsalmic. They also have a galactic miso salmon, steak and fruits, steak salad, slow roasted crystal Valley chicken, a space pod tie ties and quotes. I’m going to come back to that and a Gemini burger. The burger has their signature beef blend a white cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, roasted pepper, citrus, Al Li, and fries. The Space Pod Thai is the only plant based option at lunch. Oh, interesting. So that’s rice noodle stir fry vegetables, bean sprouts, crispy tofu, a garlic chili crunchy, I don’t know what that means. And a sweet soy chili sauce, I wouldn’t get that I’m not a huge fan of the flavor of pod Thai. So again, there would be nothing for me there at the lunchtime option. The only difference at dinner is that you can then add on options. So at dinner, you can add half of a lobster stuff with jumbo crab for $18. So that is roasted corn broccolini Mornay sauce, and that is supplemental to the prefix menu. So that wouldn’t be included in this you could pay $18 more and get that you can pay $20 more and get a 24 ounce bone in ribeye with a coffee space rub fingerling potatoes, asparagus, Tripoli onion. So I will say I think you and I should cancel our reservations for the lunch and go to the lounge. Okay, just to sort of get a feel for it. Well, it’s a great segue to my question that what space to 20 years, okay, I want to go through the sides and the sweets really quick and then we can answer your questions. So for their sides, you can get fingerling potatoes truffles, or Parmesan potato wedges, roasted carrots and broccolini none of those are included in the prefix menu. So that’s like you order something and you say but I really want those fingerling potatoes Can I Get aside of that? Sure. reasonably priced. They’re all $9. But so and then for sweets, you’ve got a carrot cake, chocolate raspberry cake, a blue planet, which is what a lot of us saw the photos of right when it started a gelato and sorbet. Miss ca 83 which is an oatmeal finance ca orange cream blueberry cream, fresh gelato and an oatmeal. streusel. Okay, yeah, and the Astra which is the honey cake with almond marscapone a mousse honey cream lingonberry jam and honey come cookie. I wonder if they got that lingonberry jam from IKEA. That’s the only place I know that sells it. Probably. But in any case, those are all about $14 The gelato and sorbets 10 everything else is 14. So I think the menu is great, but I think it’s a very specific menu. You go there to sort of be wowed. Right. And it I am vegetarian not vegan, but I am what you would call a picky vegetarian. Yeah. So I would rather have a huge salad here. Then fake pod Thai. Yeah, I would rather have a veggie pasta than a fake pod Thai. Yeah.
Chris 23:36
So in none of that it’s worth say 75
Kelli 23:40
of that is 55 or $75. And so I really struggle with spending $55 on me for any meal because I’m just not going to eat that much. They don’t charge that much for vegetables. So what’s your question about the layout Johnny?
Chris 23:55
Do you still get to read this facelift?
Kelli 23:56
I need to look into that because that’s really all I will well I believe you do because the restaurant is seated like around the bar area. And so you see people sitting at the bar I think that’s
Chris 24:10
a really just want to ride the lift, go up have a drink come back down. Right so I’m all on board with saying
Kelli 24:15
that’s what I want to do too. I do believe that you do ride the lift for the lounge and the lounge is near the bar area in the restaurant. We just need to we need to verify that but
Chris 24:26
we haven’t done via Napoli and that seems ridiculous to and we have reservations there.
Kelli 24:30
We have reservations at via Napoli which will probably cancel and then we’ve also got sushi Hezekiah. So we need to pick one
Chris 24:37
does does they sell Yeah, have a lounge because I’d really like to go there to get there.
Kelli 24:43
I probably got to get a booth out
Chris 24:45
and said why don’t we just do lounges of Epcot lounge
Kelli 24:49
tour. Yeah, we rarely ever have like sit down reservations at Epcot. Right because you’re sort of eating your way around around the world
Chris 24:55
all the time.
Kelli 24:57
So yeah, it’s a thought. I’m still behind. spaced to 20. I just feel like it might not be a great fit,
Chris 25:02
especially as a fixed price deal right now, especially. It’s just not
Kelli 25:08
right. And we’ll have to two teams with us. And I’m definitely not paying $55 for each of the show. So, yeah,
Chris 25:15
okay, I’m for it. Let’s, we’ll, we’ll jump back in there. And we’ll decide which of the multitude of reservations we want to cancel.
Kelli 25:21
Yeah, absolutely. All right. You ready for, but hey, if you’ve been to space to 20, let us know. Yes, please let us know if you’ve enjoyed it. Love to hear your thought restaurant or the lounge.
Chris 25:33
Okay. So I’ve decided since we’re going back, I just sort of been getting really excited. And I’ve just sort of been thinking about, like, a wish that some of the things that aren’t there anymore. I could experience again. Oh,
Kelli 25:48
is this one of the Maelstrom was for Porsche? Yes, where we’re going with that. Okay.
Chris 25:55
And now you know, and now I know. So thanks to Travel and Leisure magazine, or travel and leisure.com for helping out with this day and I see the same a lot but not everything that they some of the what they wanted to bring back I don’t care
Kelli 26:12
about okay, but in this particular situation, you agree with the list,
Chris 26:15
these are things that I would like to experience again. First on the list, and these are in no particular order. The first on my list right now is Body Wars. Now I did a whole segment on Body Wars, Body Wars was around from 1989. at Epcot in the future world area of Epcot from 89 to 2007, you can still see the dome, which was like the wonders of life dome. It’s still over there. But sort of between mission space and cosmic are the guardians of the galaxy cosmic rewind, which used to be the universe of energy. There was a whole Wonders of Life pavilion, you went in there, there was a whole bunch of things to do. But the main attraction in there was Body Wars, where it was used the same ride simulator that Star Tours uses. But the idea is they shrunk you down to the size of a human cell, and they would inject you into a human body. And you’re gonna go see the splinter that was stuck in somebody’s finger. Elizabeth Shue starred in it and Tim Matheson, also known as otter from Animal House, also known as Vice President, John Heinz in westwing. Oh, really? He was the He was the captain of the ship we were in. Oh, that’s fantastic. Yeah. And you went throughout the human body. Sounds
Kelli 27:32
like a very slim good body situation.
Chris 27:33
Oh, my gosh, slim. Steak in good body. I hope that there are people’s, like, endorphin just went off the charts when he said that, yes. Also, if you’ve seen I think it’s fantastic voyage from like the 1950s or 60s old movie feels very much like that. And you know, they’ve done such a good job of re imagining Star Tours and storylines. They could have done something very similar with
Kelli 27:59
this. If you haven’t seen slim good body, by the way, Google your wellies
Chris 28:03
leads to my gosh, so good. I’m so glad you said that. Anyway, and that that whole pavilion had fun things and there’s a keep teasing future potential for that pavilion. So hopefully that’ll that’ll come back around. horizons. Did you ever write horizons at Epcot,
Kelli 28:26
it doesn’t sound familiar at all. It’s
Chris 28:28
where mission spaces now it was a whole different building at the time 1983 to 1994 and then it shut down for a year then it was back open from 95 to 99. I think it was a situation where they were getting ready to do something new they decided not to so they reopened horizons think about like you know like the scenes that you sort of your your vehicle your ride vehicle and Spaceship Earth rides through like your like your Afro girl in the 70s. And All right, so those sorts of scenes that you ride through think that that’s what Horizons was like, but instead of like focusing on communication, like Spaceship Earth, does, horizons just sort of focused on what life would be like in the future? Okay, okay. Yeah, yes, very, it was very much Epcot. But the and all those things are always fun to ride through and see and hear what the narration tells you about it and what the likelihood is, but what was the most and you and you saw what life would be like in desert areas, what life would be like maybe under the sea and what life would be like in space. And then you got to choose how you wanted to return back to future port or a future world.
Kelli 29:38
So very much Spaceship Earth, that,
Chris 29:41
except better, this portion of it was better. Like your cart, your car and Spaceship Earth gets to choose what your life will be like. But in this you chose your own thing, okay, and then like these flaps would come up between you and the person you were with and you You would see a different screen portraying your trip back to future world from space. Oh, wow, they would see their thing. They’re like they wanted to go through the desert or somebody else wanted to come back to future world from an undersea research lab. Oh, that’s cool. So each of us would end up with a different experience, just based on what we pressed on the screen in front of us. Really cool ride, specially for its time, it would be considered, you know, behind the times today with today’s technology, but still would, I think they could have done more with it with today’s technology. Interesting. Okay. All right. The Maelstrom? 1988 2014 Probably
Kelli 30:41
not a typical belief. I’d say you’re out of
Chris 30:48
disagree entirely. In fact, weigh in on this people. What are your thoughts? Would you like to ride the Maelstrom again? Or do you want to rock keep writing that abomination they put in I’m just kidding. I love Frozen ever after. It’s got like just an hour and a half wait every time so I’m just kidding about that, but so did maelstrom for a long time. And it’s really long way. I also just loved the idea of being introduced to one of the nation’s cultures this way.
Kelli 31:14
You know, it was a good ride. I mean, because there wasn’t a lot of rides of there on that side.
Chris 31:19
Exactly. And there’s still not a lot of rides and they and the rides that they do have don’t immerse you into that nation’s culture the way this did, I will give you that, like, the trolls and the and the magic of the trolls and, and then and then you would suddenly you’re in today’s time and did that scene where you ride through on the North Sea, where the like you Rob has a big oil derrick, and it’s so you felt like you were in the North Sea? Oddly, and then you follow that up with this movie that was sort of like a promotional movie for Norway. And if you skip that movie, you really missed a wonderful depiction of a people and a nation and I just I loved it. I think that it would be great to have that sort of a ride combo ride movie combo in every one of those nations over there that really focused on that that nation’s culture. Okay, Extra Terrestrial Alien Encounter. You
Kelli 32:20
love that. I love that
Chris 32:25
one really a ride. It was it was legit scary, though. And I mean, I would even take the stitch version today. Either of them, although I prefer the super creepy legit scary that gay people heart attacks when it first opened up. No, you’re not either of them. Don’t guys, she was so good. And I did do a whole segment on on it. So I won’t go into too much detail. But honestly though, Tomorrowland needs more. And there’s an enormous
Kelli 32:54
area in Tomorrowland has really sort of shut down or gotten old.
Chris 32:58
Right. And so that’s a huge area there that that ride that attraction zone takes up a lot of real estate. They could do they could do something in there. That would be right.
Kelli 33:12
Okay, stitches not open anymore. Right? Right. Okay. Yes, yes. Because extraterrestrials are
Chris 33:19
dying entire building. Basically empty the last
Kelli 33:22
floor wasn’t open. Right across the way. Yeah, right. So like that whole area. Right? Well, Ken didn’t really have anything.
Chris 33:29
Um, so yeah, Tomorrowland needs some stuff and that would be a really great way to go. Right. At least got the place for it. Okay. The Skyway Do you remember the Skyway? The fantasyland to Tomorrowland Skyway. I don’t. Interesting, but you did go to the Magic Kingdom when the birthday cake Castle was up? Yeah. So the Skyway was an era aerial gondola ride that carried guests to and from Fantasyland and Tomorrowland so you could enter in any either side. And so you just ride from fantasyland to Tomorrowland and or back. They had one at Disney land from 1954 to 94.
Kelli 34:12
Where did it pick up and drop off at?
Chris 34:14
So the fantasy land area? entry was sort of where Rapunzel holes bathroom is today. Oh, okay. Okay, over in that area, you would board there. And you would ride over fantasy land over the 2000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction which is where Ariel’s Grotto and stuff is right. And then he was like you would come down to almost to the ground you take a right turn and go up again and you’d go the rest of the way into Tomorrowland and it would drop off like to sort of sort of between were sort of in the way where Tron is today. Okay, that sort of that area. Okay. And, you know, Skyliner is so popular or at least I think it is maybe there’s still a market for But the last picture I saw someone doing a review of SkyWay they were riding past the castle as it was still birthday cake birthday cake.
Kelli 35:08
Oh, isn’t that interesting?
Chris 35:09
Now the one at Disney land because they had one at Disneyland from Park opening till 1994 or something. It went through the Matterhorn. And so that’s cool. Okay, and then they also had one at Disneyland, Tokyo that didn’t close until 98. Wow. Yeah. So and the one Magic Kingdom didn’t close, I think till 99 Okay, yeah. So So those are the ones you’d like to ride again. Lastly, is The Great Movie Ride. Oh,
Kelli 35:35
I missed that one. I love that so much. I
Chris 35:37
just loved that. That
Kelli 35:38
was a good one was so
Chris 35:40
good. Big John. I literally my notes. My notes. The last bullet says Big John John. I mean, you writing right through the greatest movies in history and then getting to take part in either a Cowboy Western or the Indiana Jones type thing. I miss it so much. I I know it’s never coming back. Lee invested they’ve invested too much into the Mickey Minnie style. So I love that too. But gosh, I would give anything for the greatest smooth ride to derive that again.
Kelli 36:10
I did love the greatest movie, right? That was a good one.
Chris 36:12
I did two things that should go away. You won’t hear what those are. Okay. Matterhorn Bobsleds is number one, raise that thing right to the ground, put put Walt’s love making hill or whatever he used to be there. It’s got to go away. It’s got to go. We don’t we only have the Skyway goes through it anymore. Didn’t happen anymore. So just tear it down. And the Tomorrowland speedway? Yes. Just replace it with a Myrtle Beach style go kart attraction. But that’s just got to go away, man. Yes,
Kelli 36:41
yes. Is he related at all and not good? It’s just so slow. Not good. Yes,
Chris 36:48
it’s more reason why Tomorrowland needs more. Yeah. All right, folks. That’s the show for this week. We hope you enjoyed it.
