Episode Transcript:

Chris 0:28
Welcome aboard Disney fam. Welcome aboard indeed, Disney family. We are so happy to be here. We are so happy that you are here. My name is Chris.

Kelli 0:39
And I’m Kelly.

Chris 0:40
And you are rockin some pirate ears. I

Kelli 0:45
love these years so much. So I think they’re actually they’re supposed to be the red pirate because the bandanas red. So for those of you that can’t see it, these are like your traditional Mickey headband. With a pirate hat on top.

Chris 0:58
A Jolly Roger pirate hat. Yeah,

Kelli 1:00
it’s going Crossman. Yeah. In between the two ears with like a white feather coming out of the top. And then going around the headband is like a red with a scarf with white polka dot. Yeah,

Chris 1:09
like it hangs down on the right hand side, right. So I’ve discovered like this

Kelli 1:13
really interesting way to get unique ears. You can go onto eBay and search for them. And the the folks that go to Shanghai Disneyland will often post them for sale on eBay. Now sometimes they’re crazy expensive. But sometimes they’re like $15. And you just got to be willing to wait a month for the shipping. Sure. So it’s fun. I love fun. These

Chris 1:38
are really cool. Well

Kelli 1:39
over $15 ears out there. I think they’re really cool. They’re Disney branded from Shanghai Disneyland. And it’s yours. We can’t get here in the state. Yeah,

Chris 1:48
these are really cool. I mean, when you describe all that going on, like that’s a lot going on with a set of Mickey your headband. Yeah, yeah. Good.

Kelli 1:56
You know what I like to discover people who have listened to our podcast this week. Certainly do and where are they from? Honey?

Chris 2:03
Thank you for asking. Brunswick, Maine just north of Portland on the beautiful coast of Maine. Actually, that part of Maine reminds me very much of the low country of South Carolina.

Kelli 2:14
I want to go to Maine you were taking me there

Chris 2:16
and you want Why don’t you take me place? Well, because you don’t like lobster. And so I decided why waste the money you

Kelli 2:22
know I remember you saying that one time like you don’t eat lobster like like that’s all that main serves. I’m sure they’d got cheese. Probably do you tell me Maine doesn’t have cheese? I’m sure they Cristini tons of butter.

Chris 2:39
These are my people go to Maine just for that. Riverview, Florida, which is an unincorporated area outside of Tampa. Cute. Yeah. Belle Fontaine, Ohio northwest of Columbus. That sounds like a really fancy fancy town in Ohio Belle Fontaine. I just liked it because it has Belle at the beginning, which is a Disney princess. Oh, that’s not why that’s not the only reason I liked it. Okay. All right. But it was and this is a fun town. Okay. Amsterdam and the Netherlands. Oh, I know.

Kelli 3:12
We you know, we do have a very racy podcast and I can see why folks of Amsterdam would be really into us. Oh, that

Chris 3:20
had to be racy. Sure. Maybe they just like us. They find us delightful. Like the two lips.

Kelli 3:28
Yeah, that’s me. To love if there ever was one. Yes, you are.

Chris 3:33
You ready for some Mainstreet? Action? Yes. All right. So Disney Parks posted $650 million in profits for the final fiscal quarter of 2021. For the last fiscal quarter here in 2021. It is good, but it was below stock analysts expectations so it was actually kind of a bummer. When they when they had actually had their stock call their their their quarterly call, but report 650 million profit and profit has a bummer. When you set those expectations, man. It’s harsh. But if you go back and look at like a non pandemic year, what those quarters produce, it’s really just a fraction. And it’s, but they are seeing that I mean, prices have gone up. So this is not terrible surprise, but they’re seeing the guests spending has gone up like 30% over pre pandemic levels. per guest spinning. Okay. I guess that’s good for Disney. Well, I

Kelli 4:39
mean, I wonder if it’s all the new 50th anniversary March? Well,

Chris 4:42
it’s some of that it’s also they expected a slowdown in September because people were going back to school and you still got pandemic and they they only just recently just this past week, I think received their first international visitors from the UK. Right? Right. And so that’s been a huge part. a population that has not been there, right? So you know, lots of come back still ahead, I’m

Kelli 5:07
sure. Yes, you can come back from this Disney from this horrible course horrible $650 million in profit. Yes, you can also bounce back

Chris 5:18
by the bootstraps Disney just grab yourself by the bootstraps. We do love Disney. Genie plus has seen they’re showing one out of every three guests are buying Genie plus, okay, which is great. And as a result, they think Genie could generate $300 million in 2022.

Kelli 5:45
Like, gosh, like God bless it, just

Chris 5:48
we’re just going to add this little literally just print to add this little feature $15 a pop, it’s going to add 300 million to the bottom line. That’s crazy. So Disney plus day was just this past Friday, September 12 in

Kelli 6:03
the world does that suppose to me that’s when they opened is that?

Chris 6:06
I think it’s I think it’s an heiress runner. Yeah, it was I think it was it didn’t originally launch on November the 12th I think maybe a couple of years ago. But they’ve announced that this is Disney plus de special character appearances in Hollywood Studios. I know and adventure adventure campus, Agatha.

Kelli 6:25
Because she was on the Disney plus show. So you told me that earlier in it. Did

Chris 6:31
you ever Yeah, it was it was specifically we would see a lot of Disney plus specific characters walking around Hollywood studios in particular. Okay, yeah, I expect that Mandalorian was probably seen although they didn’t really give us a list online or anything of who we would

Kelli 6:47
so good to see Greg good. Just walking around with his little mug.

Chris 6:51
Oh, no, he’s floating around in his little egg pod his little pod. Oh

Kelli 6:54
my goodness, he was doing that. That’d be fantastic.

Chris 6:57
There were some there were some special perks for Disney plus subscribers. Like you could go to various parts of all the parks and get like special PhotoPass alternate reality type. Oh, that is so like there was an area where how would they know we were subscribed? Yeah, you would have to like log on to Disney plus on your phone and like take a snapshot and you could like upload that I think to Disney to the My Disney Experience app and so it wouldn’t know that you weren’t Gosh, that feels very it was it was very analog for one for one day of the year. But you could get your picture we grow goo in particular okay. But there were there were a whole lots of places that you could get. There was a whole list of places you could go and get like the special alternate reality pictures and whatnot. shopdisney has got a couple of cool things that I saw out there. Oh Gus came from specifically from August Cantina. You can get some of the mugs that the special drinks come in from August cantina No, I

Kelli 7:56
love a souvenir.

Chris 7:57
Now you love a mug that’s really the only reason I put this on here. Normally I wouldn’t care what’s available. But you love a mug love you love you love a specialty drink out of container

Kelli 8:09
I mean I’m telling you one of these days that’s all this gonna be in our cabinets or souvenir mugs

Chris 8:13
we’re not far from there now they’re almost there now an outsider’s eyes would open up our cabinets and think the hell is going on. So it also in Star Wars is there’s a monster called the RAND Corp he’s in he makes a grand appearance in Return of the Jedi. They have they sell a wine flight or a drink flight that like it looks like you’re drinking out of rank or teeth. So you can actually buy that that the flight glasses that look like the teeth of this monster See

Kelli 8:52
that’s what I’m talking about. Who doesn’t want that?

Chris 8:56
Who doesn’t want it? Who doesn’t? Who who doesn’t want to drink out of rank or teeth?

Kelli 9:01
That’s what I’m saying like even if you’re not into the whole wine flight thing

Chris 9:05
you know drinking diet coke

Kelli 9:07
Um Say it yes like what a great Friday night that is I’m gonna bust out the rain core teeth flight set and just drink listen put Diet Coke in this one I put sprite in this one tea in this one I just really spice up the night

Chris 9:21
sure that’s what we put in it

Kelli 9:24
to say I’m just offering up ideas

Chris 9:26
the perimeter fireworks have returned to the Magic Kingdom so the fireworks that really go out you know wide angle view shooting the fireworks those are back and they had they had a fire at one time and they shut them down at one time but they’re all back everybody’s good down everybody

Kelli 9:42
small little fire put it out like

Chris 9:45
so some jerk I guess. Released the leaked the blueprints for Guardians of the Galaxy cosmic rewind the Guardian drive that’s coming to Epcot and it’s in the old Ellen’s place there for people if you No, you know, I guess, but somebody put the blueprints out there for the ride. So now you can go and you can really see what that ride is supposed to be like and all that but you know, but spoilers. So speaking of that, though, Karen Gillan, who we love as Amy Pond from Dr. Few days, you know, she’s nebula from the Guardians of the Galaxy. Yeah, whatever. She says that the Guardians of the Galaxy three script just made her ball tears real just absolutely had her. It

Kelli 10:33
must be something with her and her green sister like, like they’re gonna finally be more, you know, be sister ish or something that they had to be between blue and green. So I’m kind of suggested

Chris 10:44
that that they do talk a lot about her backstory, right? Yeah. The So last week I talked about I mentioned the Epcot candlelight processional and I listed some of the names Yep. And I was upset that Doogie Howser wasn’t gonna be he’s still not gonna be there. Okay. They did add some more names though. Uh, Lee Carvalho who played Mallanna okay. And then Chita Rivera, by the way, who was an amazing stage actress. She was in West Side Story and I’ve heard that name for sure. Jodi Benson we mentioned last week she’s she was the original Ariel out and Fitzgerald White played a recurring character and a judge on the TV show bowl. Bart Mullard, who’s the lead singer for Mercy Me will be there. But I’ll just say that’s not a good name. It’s a bad name. Who maybe he says Millard Bart Miller, I’m sure that’s probably Lisa Lang. She’s a journalist for CNN, Andy Garcia. We’ve mentioned him I would

Kelli 11:35
have thought that Lisa Ling was from Charlie’s Angels.

Chris 11:39
At least So, Lou I think, Lucy

Kelli 11:42
Liu Lucy lives. Close. You’re You’re

Chris 11:45
bad. You’re bad. Andy Garcia, you know who that is? As Terry Benedict. Really? Oh, okay. And I guess Dyer?

Kelli 11:53
Is he gonna do it as Terry Benedict?

Chris 11:55
I don’t think so. And I guess Dyer she was the she’s from SNL fame. She’s one of the old SNL actresses. Okay. Courtney Vance is an actor. He’s been in a million things great character actor. He was on Hunt for Red October just one of the things. Steven Curtis Chapman, Daybreakers singer Blair Underwood. He was Dr. Robert leads on Sex in the City. You remember him? Black doctor?

Kelli 12:17
I don’t but I would have put $100 Now that that was a woman. No, I think I was thinking about Carrie Underwood.

Chris 12:25
You couldn’t find two more opposite people in the world.

Kelli 12:29
Under would you think they’re kin?

Chris 12:30
I don’t. Not even a little bit. And Pat say Jack who was of course the 437 year old host of wheel of fortune. 50. Okay, real quick. Nearly 90 performers cut from the 2021 version of Mickey’s once upon a Christmas time parade. basically three main floats is the deal there. extensive work being done on the Fantasmic theater like they’re like digging up plumbing. They might be making refreshing some of that stuff. They’re rebuilding the the steamboat Willie’s boat finale thing they’re rebuilding it from the ground.

Kelli 13:04
Probably needed a refresh. Is it gonna be done by January the second No, no, no, no

Chris 13:08
this thing maybe next year? Okay. Virtual cue to meet with Santa at Disney Springs. So log in do virtual cute. Disney parks will portray Santa in different races this year. In the parades and stuff like that.

Kelli 13:28
Very nice Disney. Yep. Um, I guess we have a woman Santa?

Chris 13:33
I don’t know. That’d be Mrs. Claus. Live Day special meaning you coming to Star Wars Galaxies edge? Well, actually, that was this past. November The 12th was life day. You have no idea what that is. I will just say Google Star Wars Christmas Spectacular from the 70s.

Kelli 13:49
I want to say Can Can we revisit the comment that you just made about Mrs. Woman Santa would be Mrs. Claus. No, can we not? Can I want to because the music has ended. You’re saying that she only exists in relation to him. She has no name. She’s just simply Mrs. Claus. 20 Santa and he would be like the first gentleman. Right. You know, that’s true. Right. He’d be Mr. Claus. She would be Santa. And he would be Mr. Claus.

Chris 14:20
You know, you know, you know, I do know Disney. went there with Noel.

Kelli 14:26
I know. That’s what I’m saying. I can’t believe he just got so sexist. Right there you had 20 seconds left. And you were gonna make it without without any type of a sexist. You threw that out? She’s Mrs. Claus. Oh my goodness. No, she does not just exist in relation to him. She is her own person. She’s the lead character her own story. And he is also there.

Chris 14:56
Yes, you’re right. Dear. Can we move on to Tomorrowland we can. Okay, no. No, we can’t move on to tomorrow. Yeah, we gotta talk about the meantime, we do the mini tag, man. Right. So the so we’re doing a little bit different this season, we’ve put out a subject and we want you to take part in our mini take. Yes. So the question is, if you could be any Disney animal, what would you be? And why exactly.

Kelli 15:20
And so, in order to participate, all you have to do is go out to our website, you can do this on your phone, it’s mobile friendly, up in the nav, click on voicemail, then it’s going to say do you allow access to your microphone and you say yes. And then it comes up with a SpeakPipe screen and it says, record this big huge Arn button, you click Record, say whatever your heart is leading you to say. And then you click send. And it takes you to a page where you can put in your name and email. Both of those are optional, you can just click Send, this can be completely anonymous. We’re not going to call anybody out. I mean, we may if we know you, but most likely, we’re not going to call you out. We just want to participate. We just want to hear a lot of different options. I think I’ve already decided who I’m going to be. I feel like you sort of hit me today. And I thought, You know what, I need to think on that just a little bit more to sort of build my argument, but I really feel strongly that that’s who I would be. So in any case, we want you to participate. So please, please, please, please, please go out to the website. Sef adp.com. Click on voicemail. It can be as long or as short as you want. But we would love to do a special episode on this mini take. Yep, absolutely. Okay, now we’re ready for Tomorrowland,

Chris 16:33
thank goodness.

Kelli 16:36
I’m on brand this week, you know, sweet. I was gonna do a lot of the holiday snacks. But then I got into it. And I was like, Oh my gosh, y’all Disney food blog. I mean, not Disney football, Disney Parks blog released a thing for a foodie guide for the holiday snacks. There were 55 different snacks. And I started looking at the list and I was like, You know what I’m going to focus on today is just the Thanksgiving snacks and yeah, let’s do that. Okay, so that’s what we’re going with I’m just talking about the Thanksgiving snacks and meals. Some of these are only available on November the 25th. Some of them are available like that week, but we’re gonna go around the parks and the other places that have things available. So first, I will say Animal Kingdom has the most apparently Animal Kingdom is the place to go for Thanksgiving. The

Chris 17:23
Animal Kingdom is underrated for food anyway,

Kelli 17:25
it’s totally underrated for food. But in any case, they definitely have the most options for Thanksgiving meals, which is interesting. You would think that either Epcot or you know what Liberty Square would have some more options but no. Okay, so in Animal Kingdom at restaurant Oh Soros, you have the open faced Thanksgiving turkey sandwich. This looks so cool. It’s grilled multigrain bread with roasted garlic mayonnaise, cornbread, stuffing, waffle, sliced smoked turkey breast, herbs, gravy, cranberry sauce and a fried sage leaf. This is only available on November the 25th and I just want to say I’ve heard the feedback. The prices are not available for this okay so I can’t give you pricing for any of this Britt but I hear your feedback and I’m working on when love we do love you but no pricing available. So that’s a restaurant to source to open face Thanksgiving turkey sandwich. Next is so truly canteen, and so to the canteen This is the place with the bowls for Pandora, right? A Thanksgiving bowl. Okay, so this has cornbread stuffing, sliced roasted turkey, cranberry boba pearls. Oh now that reavie and small nice only available on November the 25th That’s nice. They also have a pumpkin cheesecake mousse. This thing looks so freakin amazing as a pumpkin cheesecake. And it’s like covered in a really shiny orange glaze. Okay, chocolate dirt, like around the side. Cranberry boba pearls on there. That’s available the 25th through the 28th so it’s so cute. Okay Tiffins restaurant at Tiffins you can get a Thanksgiving plate, Turkey Rue Laad fine herbs, whipped potatoes, Maple Glazed carrots, sweet potato paavai wild mushrooms, green bean casserole cornbread dressing cranberry jell O and a turkey gravy. Wow. Only available November 25. Like I gotta say if we were in the Orlando area, I would totally want to make a reservation with these places. For sure that sounds so awesome and no cooking, right? They also have a roasted squash soup, which looks great is a ginger ginger pear chutney. pickled jalapeno, Chai spiced and candied pistachios.

Chris 19:59
That sounds delicious.

Kelli 20:01
I won’t that soup so bad. And then they have an apple pie cheesecake, whipped, caramel cheesecake, apple pie compote, and white chocolate streusel and cranberry sauce. All of that a Tiffins is only available on the 25th That’s amazing. Isn’t it though, at tusker house.

Chris 20:20
What I love those Disney has said there are some people that want to come here. Yes, but they absolutely want Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving. Yes. And

Kelli 20:29
we’re only doing it on things. That’s why you’re coming on. Yes. tusker house. They have a Thanksgiving dinner, spit round roasted turkey. I struggled with that a little bit. turkey gravy, mashed red potatoes and focaccia bread dressing. Along with seasonal vegetables pork loin, flank steak and a assortment of desserts. I will say I do appreciate I know. They have distinguished between dressing and stuffing. I knew you were gonna say okay, I don’t know how I feel about it me and focaccia bread dressing but I just want to say I appreciate you distinguishing between dressing and stuffing. Dressing is the way to go. Please don’t ask me. Okay. Next we’re at Hollywood Studios for pizza Rizzo. Okay, they have a butterscotch caramel cannoli. This is a holiday cannoli filled with caramel cheesecake, butterscotch chips and chocolate flakes. This is actually available mid November through the early January. Okay, so this is like an overall holiday thing at Woody’s lunchbox also available mid November through January but yet they still have not post pricing. We have a holiday lunchbox chart. This is an apple pie filled tart. Frosted with cinnamon icing sugar snowflakes and holiday sprinkles. I mean, the Woody’s lunchbox tarts are very underrated Ara they are but I’m all for apples and cinnamon. Really? Yeah, that’s true. Yes. Okay, now we’re moving over Magic Kingdom were really the only one listed is it Sleepy Hollow. Interesting. Now I know you can go to Liberty Tree tavern but that’s like all your rights all year. It’s not really special for not special right? So the only real special thing is it Sleepy Hollow and it’s also available November the eighth which is in Liberty Square like he said this one stops December 31st. Okay, so I will say this is just the Thanksgiving stuff like this is the stuff that becomes available in November. There are a lot of holiday snacks that will go into that become available in December. So some of those are at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood studios and all that we just again 55 Okay, so Sleepy Hollow has and I do love Sleepy Hollow right because they are you know, they’re constantly trying stuff. Give it give it to him for that. Ginger Apple funnel cake. Yeah, this is a gingerbread funnel cake topped with apple pie filling. Vanilla ice cream and a caramel sauce.

Chris 23:05
The actual funnel cake itself is gingerbread is gingerbread flavored fun. Okay, that is something isn’t it that

Kelli 23:13
Sleepy Hollow Man they will turn something on.

Chris 23:15
They will they are very progressive.

Kelli 23:19
very progressive snack stand.

Chris 23:25
somebody somewhere is like let’s do this. And they’re like, Okay, Sleepy

Kelli 23:28
Hollow.

Chris 23:29
Sleepy Hollow.

Kelli 23:30
very progressive smells. Okay at Disney Springs. We have three things we have or maybe no, we have two things. De Luxe burger. They have a holiday turkey burger. This is a turkey. Patty. With butternut squash risotto cake. I really have to work on my diction in order to do these food spirit episodes. A butternut squash risotto cake, a bacon cranberry jam, lettuce and tomato goodness. Interesting. I saw this it is like six inches thick and that risotto cake is as thick as the patty if not thicker. Wow. is significant. Okay, and that ends on December the first. They also have the odier cookie shaped d e r o hazelnut lacor vanilla gelato, cinnamon beverage syrup, whipped cream cinnamon and sugar dusting with a ginger dear garnish. Well that’s something that’s something that is a lot going on in that shake. And so then the last one is the daily poutine now that’s yeah, now that’s over in Epcot. Right

Chris 24:47
there is a poutine refreshment stand at Epcot well out yes not outpost but one of the places there between your candidate right at Starbucks but but the one at Disney Springs. is the daily poutine and they’ve got like lots of different ones. Okay, and it’s one of those places where we’re always stuffed when we go somewhere at Disney Springs. And I never eat there even though I always want to.

Kelli 25:11
Okay, well, they have the gobbler poutine. And so this is Turkey, brown gravy, cranberry chutney and cheese curds all on top of fries. That’s that’s a poutine that’s the poutine thing, right that everything’s top of fries. Yeah, so then yes, the picture looked like it was on top of fries. Yeah, that’s good. Yeah, we’ll say it’s gotta be. So I mean, I would just say as a recommendation in general, that if you’re going to go to Disney, in thanksgiving, in or around Thanksgiving, I would say your best shot for a sit down meal is at Animal Kingdom. Yeah. Your best shot for a walk up meal is probably also at Animal Kingdom, right? Because that’s going to be subtly kit kept. Canteen. restaurant or Soros right tusker house is going to be your buffet. Tiffins is going to be your sit down. Those are your big meals, I think at Disney. But there’s some really fun snacks and burgers and things like that at Disney Springs or in some of the other parks. So again, you know, I’ve always wanted to go to Disney on Thanksgiving. Just pack your patience. We’ve never done that. No, you’re right. I don’t have a lot of patience. And so therefore, we probably should not go or that.

Chris 26:27
I like the idea to take Thanksgiving Day as a non Park Day. And the the resorts all do something special for Thanksgiving.

Kelli 26:36
I know we talked about that last year, but no, I would want to go to like one of these places

Chris 26:42
and not have the turkey. Right. Well, I

Kelli 26:45
mean, I would get the Thanksgiving bowl with no turkey. Or just the pumpkin cheesecake mousse or that just that right, really I want that roasted squash soup. Gosh, that looks good.

Chris 26:57
It looks so good. Well, you know what else looks good? Once you go there for World Showcase. Yes. Right. Kelli 27:31

Chris 27:34
Yeah, that’s right. And I’ve I’ve got it here because I want Kelly to head to look at this little fella, since I’ve read about this guy. And you

Kelli 27:42
posted him on Instagram too. Yes. Is it? Is he gender specific?

Chris 27:45
Is it a boy? It’s a boy. Okay. And since I read about this guy, I just kind of fallen in love with him. He’s stinking adorable. T is adorable. Huge shout out to Walt Disney or WD W magazine for putting this information together. I’ll find they were they’re great. By the way. You should subscribe to them if you love Disney. They’re awesome. So first off, who is the orange bird? He’s a bird that is orange. But he’s also a bird with an orange for a head. He’s got Yeah, he’s got his head isn’t orange. He’s got a little orange body. His his wings are leaves. Little leafy hairs.

Kelli 28:31
Chris was literally just using his hands out to the side of his body like he was fine.

Chris 28:38
He’s got a little beak. He’s got little. He’s got little tail. Scotland bird tail that is also leaves a little leaf bird tail. That

Kelli 28:46
is really cute. He’s

Chris 28:47
adorable. He’s

Kelli 28:48
tough to Dorbz his head is too large for his body, but that just

Chris 28:54
adds to the cuteness so so he cannot sing. He communicates by thinking things and you then see what he thinks and every time he tries to speak whatever he’s thinking, it just comes out in a puff of orange smoke. I don’t really know why that is but we’re gonna we’re gonna we’re gonna touch back on that

Kelli 29:16
was saying or talk or anything? That’s right. Okay, now why?

Chris 29:20
Why is the orange bird terrible at social media?

Kelli 29:24
Because he can’t tweet.

Chris 29:28
Alright, so how did he come to be in the first place? In the late 60s, the Florida citrus growers who are around today they’re the people that are responsible for the citrus bowl, as well as just promoting all things Florida, citrus, especially oranges. If you remember back in the 70s and 80s you would see commercials touting Florida orange juice and brought to you by the Florida citrus growers, right? Yes. So these folks knowing that Walt Disney World was about to open up this great big Park, they decided, hey, let’s let’s get together, we can have a mutually beneficial relationship where you promote Florida citrus, citrus. And we can develop a cute little character together that can show up in your parks. Right. So they did that. And together, the orange bird was hatched.

Kelli 30:25
That’s a bit cheesy.

Chris 30:26
There might be a few more of those. So the orange bear became a star of a nationwide advertisement campaign for Florida orange juice. And he had his own song with lyrics written by the Sherman Brothers, Richard. Oh, that’s cool. Yeah, they wrote the lyrics is available on a record that came out at the time with an illustrated book. You remember the kids books?

Kelli 30:50
The record? The record over?

Chris 30:53
That’s exactly right. It told the story of the orange bird and the things that made him unique. And it didn’t even incorporate the fact that orange bird lives in a sunshine tree. And of course, Adventure Land. You go in the sunshine tree terrace is brought to you it has the orange bird logo.

Kelli 31:13
By me eat his head. Yes,

Chris 31:14
yes, that’s right. So hey, we got a little surprise.

Kelli 31:18
Oh,

Chris 31:18
check this out

Speaker 1 31:26
we think beautiful orange picture. Beautiful orange words, though. Little beats can’t even a squeak all the plots he ever spoke appear in orange smoke. That’s what makes the orange bird unique. little orange in the sunshine you think something’s funny Jeff. Thank you funny, funny or sunny words. That will make me happy little.

Kelli 32:12
totally got me singing

Chris 32:15
is very ear wormable. I mean, that Orangeburg, it can very much get stuck in your head which

Kelli 32:22
the Sherman birth brothers are great at that now.

Chris 32:24
I challenge you to look at this cute little face and listen to that song and not just fall in love with this little guy. He’s cute. He started a pair of educational short cartoons called One was called food and fun and nutritional adventure. Another one was the orange bird and the nutrition bandwagon. He also started his own comic book the orange bird in the nutrition adventures Okay, all right, I’ll put out by the Florida citrus which is

Kelli 32:46
all very impressive since he can’t speak. I’m telling

Chris 32:50
you he’s got skills. Orange bird. But Disney is where the orange bird really soars.

Kelli 32:59
Oh gosh.

Chris 33:02
Right from the grand opening, right these these are these are mines. They had their own I liked this I did my own. Right from the grand opening of Magic Kingdom on October the first 1971 Orange bird was one of the parks featured faces. If you visited the sunshine tree terrace during the early 70s You’d almost definitely run into him greeting families and spreading the word about the Florida citrus products you know silently

Kelli 33:29
via sign language with leaf wings he would

Chris 33:33
he would try to lure guests actually into the tiki birds tropical serenade which is now called the Enchanted Tiki. And of course the tiki bars tropical serenade was sponsored by the Florida citrus for the citrus groves. Okay, the by the frozen orange juice and vanilla soft serve swirl that is still very popular today at Sunshine tree terrace was considered the orange bird signature snack

Kelli 33:59
before we started eating his head. Yeah.

Chris 34:04
From time to time orange bird would migrate over to Disney spring well what is now Disney Springs back then it was called Lake Buena Vista shopping village. And he’d hang out at the captain’s tower which is now pin traders. There was a sculpture there of the Orangeburg and a big banner with his face

Kelli 34:22
on it. Like you mean for real. There was a mascot that would walk around over there. Yeah. Oh, no. See, I would like to meet the math. Yeah, he

Chris 34:29
was a man was a mascot.

Kelli 34:31
I mean, he’s he’s got tiny little legs. I mean, how tall was he? Could you imagine his little leaf tail?

Chris 34:36
I would love that. That is right in your wheelhouse. Wow, I

Kelli 34:42
love Daisy Duck.

Chris 34:46
The orange bird was popular Disney well into the 80s but in 1987 the partnership between Disney and the Florida citrus growers ended and the future of the cute little orange bird had flown the coop

Kelli 34:59
Oh gosh for

Chris 35:01
a little while, by the 2000s aren’t where it was a long distant, mostly forgotten memory at Walt Disney World but then in 2004 Orange word rose from the ashes like a phoenix bless it hadn’t become popular with patrons at Tokyo Disneyland ah see, in Japan on April 14, they celebrate orange day. A couple exchanges oranges as a sign of their undying love. By the way, I’d like to take a moment to remind everybody and you frankly that I bought three oranges for the muddled orange drink that were supposed to make in there in the refrigerator for you. But nevertheless, totally the same thing. Who better to be the symbol of this amazing day of love than the O G. OB? Orangeburg? Gosh,

Kelli 35:46
the O G. OB, did you write that

Chris 35:48
I did. That’s all my merchandise started showing up on the other side of the Pacific growing in the cultural zeitgeist until eventually on April in April of 2012. Orange bird made his triumphant return to the sunshine tree terrace and Magic Kingdom. He showed up on the shops, the signage, but also a new line of merchandise including commemorative cups and T shirts. They even broke out the old statue that used to be it whereas now Disney Springs and put him in Ohio they’re outside of sunshine tree

Kelli 36:24
terrace. But so to be clear, though, the Florida citrus growers are not paying for this. No,

Chris 36:28
they do not have anything to do with it anymore.

Kelli 36:31
He still owns the copyright to it and they decided to capitalize on it for some March dash rights. He’s really blowing up at the merch. It’s

Chris 36:37
the present and future. Today. He’s hard to miss this little guy. He’s on merch from ears to dresses to T shirts and shorts. He has his own Epcot food and wine supercop our content contest. He has his own little cheese cakey snack and adventure lands we had a couple of years ago. It’s delicious. His face is just delicious. You can eat him up. He is the star of two really cool murals at Disney Springs one year the Lego stores yes one near Erin McKenna’s bakery in New York City. He’s on the mouse Pacific poster at the mini Meet and Greet area at Hollywood Studios. Okay and if you visit this my favorite if you visit the skipper canteen at Magic Kingdom which we do regularly look for a book in the library called native orange birds of southeastern United States by Dr. Sid truss.

Kelli 37:32
Dr. Sid trusts fast Dr. Citrus

Chris 37:36
faster that’s just dress don’t say Dr.

Kelli 37:40
Citrus. Ah got to

Chris 37:47
whatever the future holds for the large bird, I think well, WD W magazine was correct when they said the zest is yet to come. Oh bless they did write that.
