Holiday Happenings:

Episode Transcript:

Chris 0:28
Welcome aboard Disney fam. Hello, Disney van. We are back. My name is Chris.

Kelli 0:38
And I’ve Kelly.

Chris 0:39
Oh my god. So happy to be back. So happy to be back. You’re so happy to do that. You’re wearing some I’ve got sick right my ears. sequiny pink bow rific DVC yours. Oh,

Kelli 0:49
man, these ears. Do not scream me. But I have to say I normally worry when they’re sequins on ears because they can get very pokey sequins can remarkably since they’re circular, but they can’t get pokey. But I actually took these last time we went to Disney. Love, love love them. They look really cute and photos. They make great selfies. And they are surprisingly comfy, puffy little yours puffy little DVC ears. I like them.

Chris 1:16
It’s kind of like Skylanders on him and giraffe. Yeah,

Kelli 1:19
they’re totes adorbs they match all the DVC merch. So I’m big fan. Big fan of these years. I like them.

Chris 1:27
Hey, you know what? I’m

Unknown Speaker 1:29
a big fan of people who listened to the podcast. I

Chris 1:31
am a big fan of people who listen to the podcast. I like to see where they’re from. And this week we saw this week. It’s been three weeks. But recently we’ve seen downloads from Denver,

Kelli 1:44
North Carolina and North Carolina a show

Chris 1:47
we love people in Denver, North Carolina. And Delavan Delvon New York population. 1100 Oh, just southeast of Buffalo. Okay, so welcome. Good friends. And Omaha, Nebraska.

Kelli 2:02
Oh, Ma. Yeah, that’s fun. That wasn’t us.

Chris 2:06
There wasn’t us. Or not those people in Nebraska that downloaded. That’s fun. That’s and Ashford in Surrey, UK, which is just outside of London.

Kelli 2:16
Surrey. Sorry. Yeah. Wait, what was that a movie from where they said they’re from Surrey

Chris 2:21
recently? Yeah, we saw something where they were from Surrey or from Surrey. Oh

Kelli 2:25
my gosh, how do you not know that? That’s your superpower.

Chris 2:28
I know. I know.

Kelli 2:29
I can’t remember. Oh, my goodness. I wonder if it was maybe from Great British baking show where somebody was maybe

Chris 2:35
maybe but there’s also a show I saw recently we’re sorry. Was in lights on one of the buildings just can’t place it. Right. All right. That’s

Kelli 2:41
not what I’m thinking of everything into. Somebody said there were from Sorry. Go ahead and say that it was great British baking show.

Chris 2:46
Okay, that’s fine. You ready for some Mainstreet? Action. I’m reading lots to cover here.

Kelli 2:50
I don’t know how you’re gonna cover three weeks.

Chris 2:52
I will do our bears leave stuff out. That’s how we did it. So Jeannie officially launched since our last live show. early feedback was that the the non plus version, the non pay for version which sort of says, Hey, here’s based on what you’d like, here’s how we think you ought to schedule your day, can truly help you enjoy more rides with shorter wait times, especially somewhere like magic kingdom, not so much helpful at somewhere like Epcot, where there are fewer general attractions anyway. More premium attractions are less, comparatively speaking of premiums to fewer overall attractions. hugely helpful in knowing how long you might wait for seating at restaurants. Or, like how long mobile food or food orders might take. If you’re wondering, Am I Well

Kelli 3:42
now that’s interesting. Yeah.

Chris 3:45
So Brooke McDonald was saying some stuff about that’s really

Kelli 3:49
interesting. So if you don’t have a reservation at a restaurant, and you just want to do a walk up,

Chris 3:53
you know, I haven’t seen it. But But yeah, that’s

Kelli 3:56
like, that’s cool. That’s very cool. A lot a lot

Chris 4:00
of does Twitter complaining about pricing those you know, paying the extra $15 For Genie plus, or paying for lightning laying in access to those rides that aren’t included in Genie plus, right. But, you know, I’ve never, I don’t

Kelli 4:16
care. I mean, it’s just what it is. You do Disney your way the way you can afford. And you know, there are people that are willing to pay for it. So this he has every right to charge what they want. I live in a capitalistic society as

Chris 4:30
a for profit company. Speaking of which, Disneyland raised prices. The problem was timing mostly because it was the same time that they were fighting a lawsuit to keep from having to meet the $18 minimum wage that was put in place in Anaheim, California.

Kelli 4:50
Gee, so hot rock. No, come on.

Chris 4:54
No. So like raising ticket prices while you’re also working hard to your would not pay $18 an hour. So bad luck. Agreed it is

Kelli 5:03
a bad luck Kampot rock now, I mean, you really have to think about things like that. I know you’ve got a public relations team. Seriously.

Chris 5:12
PhotoPass LIDAR news here PhotoPass launched its alternative alternative reality lenses that allows you to like, for example, take a picture with the castle, a castle from the 25th anniversary. Yes, which was widely hated at the time, but man, I loved it. I loved it. I loved it. Oh, by the way, so did everybody else that said they hated it, which is why that particular lens is so popular right now. Right? Some refurbishments Fantasmic refurb is ongoing. It has sped up I don’t know how you can tell if it sped up, but it has sped up here recently. Still no comment on when it might officially return. Living with the land. The sets that are available with land? Yep, seeing the rest of it. I know it is. The rides gonna stay open. Although you’ll see some scrims in front of the areas that they’re refurbishing,

Kelli 6:05
or they refurbish it to add fencing so that people don’t steal cucumbers or

Chris 6:08
just jump in the water in general. Yeah, I don’t I don’t know. That’s not the impression I got. You saw

Kelli 6:13
the person that jumped the water on it’s a small world. Yes, sir. His phone was anything.

Chris 6:20
Man. Let it go. Let it go. I

Kelli 6:22
mean, I wouldn’t let it go. But I would ask a cast member Hey,

Chris 6:26
I dropped my phone. I dropped my ride around. Ireland.

Kelli 6:30
No, it was when they were waiting in line. Oh, no. It was right there in the cloud right in get the phone. People people people.

Chris 6:39
Kali River Rapids is in refurb till mid December.

Kelli 6:43
So do we think they’re refurbishing? phantasmic for the 50th

Chris 6:46
I don’t know at this point. Is after you

Kelli 6:53
tangled up in your laptop power cord tangled around its laptops just jerky and lifted.

Chris 7:01
The Walt Disney World railroad reefer will stretch into 2022 That thing has been going on forever to really

Kelli 7:07
but that’s what I’m saying. So no word on whether or not they’re referring these for the 50 No, not

Chris 7:11
really. I mean they.

Kelli 7:12
I think Fantasmic should be referred for the 50s Okay,

Chris 7:15
let’s do some 50th magic into I think they shed their

Kelli 7:18
light their month like they are late and

Chris 7:21
getting better every day. Some things that are sort of have bounced back or reopening, or whatever. The Missing animatronics from Spaceship Earth, the caveman guy that had the antlers on his head and the Roman centurion, they’ve magically reappeared.

Kelli 7:35
Oh, I thought well, you’re taking them out for for

Chris 7:39
to redo the whole thing, but they’ve postponed all that also.

Kelli 7:43
So put the caveman back.

Chris 7:46
He looks the same but the Roman Centurion back. Yes, it’s random. refurbished, Ariel’s grotto, meet and greet. Signage returns to Magic Kingdom suggesting that she’s going to be one of the meet and greets that are going to be coming back. sighs put

Kelli 8:01
like a little clamshell over face to when she needs to. She needs to wear masks.

Chris 8:07
Instead of a clamshell. That’s good. Typhon login way pool and lazy river had been refilled ahead of its rumored reopening Jelly Rolls as burned on the 15th of October you Jelly

Kelli 8:21
Rolls. So

Chris 8:22
excited. So excited. We

Kelli 8:23
are coming for you man.

Chris 8:24
Here we are. The Indiana Jones stunt show performers have begun training for a December 19 return to the Indiana Jones stunt spectacular okay. The tamtam drummers of haraam Bay will return to Animal Kingdom today.

Kelli 8:40
Wow. I do love them. You too. You’re great.

Chris 8:47
permits and permits have been filed as Disney prepares to illuminate the Tron lightcycle canopy. If you know anything about this ride to file a permit to illuminate Well, I’m sure some of the work that is required to get it to eliminate

Unknown Speaker 9:02
Oh electricity.

Chris 9:04
Right. So if you’ve if you know anything about the Tron light cycle, go back and listen to our podcast on it. Or just Google that and you will see some of the most amazing images of what this ride is just going to visually look like from the outside. It’s gonna be amazing. Disney Land monorail reopened on October 15. Awesome. Okay, which is cool. Annual Pass holder exclusive treats are now available at the ganache hurry in Disney Springs little chocolates with the new deal with the new annual pass logo.

Kelli 9:38
Yeah, I mean, I guess you got to wait in line for those things for

Chris 9:41
a couple of days when they had those old off.

Kelli 9:44
Nasseri is constantly putting out stuff that causes a line. I mean, that is a tiny little storefront. Yep. And they just I mean man, they are just printing money printing money made of chocolate is what the canary is doing.

Chris 9:58
They say Almost grog grotto has released a Congo Queen Tiki mug. I don’t know if it’s for a limited time, but they had a long line of people waiting to buy it on the first day,

Kelli 10:09
but still there we go.

Chris 10:10
I know. This is exciting. You know, we love the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade around here. Huge tradition for us. The Disney wish cruise ship float will debut this year. Will

Kelli 10:24
cruise ship float? Yes. Oh, that’s fantastic.

Chris 10:28
I cannot wait to see that. I

Kelli 10:29
just gotta be mad. You know, I don’t know what else I mean, in comparison to

Chris 10:34
floats. Right. Right. So but

Kelli 10:37
that’s cool. Very cool.

Chris 10:42
Disney Land has teased. Are you sitting down? Gosh, the main street logical break that

Kelli 10:49
I saw that to Disney Land to Disneyland. I know. I mean, somebody asked us this week on YouTube to get a review blew by you. And I’m telling you blew by you. And the Main Street Electrical Parade is enough to get you?

Chris 11:03
Absolutely. There is. California has so much to offer. But if that Joker returns, then I’ve got a date for the Blue Bayou. And that parade. Yeah. And character meet and greets will return sort of they were hoping that the priest princesses are coming back, you know, but now they’re calling them sightings.

Kelli 11:25
Yeah, I liked what they did for the for the half marathon, right this weekend, right? Like they’re there. And they’re sort of in a little set and you can take your socially distance picture with them. Frankly, I think that’s the way they should go.

Chris 11:40
Anything to stay away from people.

Kelli 11:44
The characters don’t want a bunch of sweaty people rubbing up on them all day. Kids pulling out their dresses. We love the boys trying to look up their dresses, you know, that kind of stuff.

Chris 11:53
Happily. Listen, they are not nearly as worried about the little boys as they are the grown man. And it’s probably true. Honestly.

Kelli 12:00
I’m just saying you know, I think I

Chris 12:02
think here to draw the grown man out of Ariel’s grotto.

Kelli 12:07
Yeah, with a little clamshell bra. Yeah, yeah.

Chris 12:12
Girls grata. Great. Hey, so let’s go ahead and talk about many take. Okay, right, because we want we got a little bit of a season five announcement here. And we’ll we’ll join in here with many tech because this is where we’re going to ask for public involvement.

Kelli 12:29
So immediately the announcement and then you Well, let me cue

Chris 12:34
up the take. Okay, yeah, explain why this is a deal here. Okay. Well, one of our beloved favorite people send us a mini tech question. A great one a great one. It is. It’s basically what if you could be any Disney character? What would you be? And I was prepared to say, you know, we’re going to limit it to just companion not Disney character, Disney animal. You can be any Disney animal, what animal would you be? And I was, you know, I was gonna limit it to companion animals, because there’s so many of those. And but honestly, this question is just too rich, is there so much and even even our friend that gave us this one was like, she and someone else had discussed it. She and her sister had discussed it for like so long, and was really excited to hear what what our answers might be. Boy, I’m sorry, Megan, no answers from us tonight. But it gives us an opportunity to introduce something really cool, right? So hit OK. So

Kelli 13:32
I’ll cue this up. So one of my favorite things about podcasts is how they have the ability to interact with their audiences. I just love podcasts. I’m not just a co host here on this podcast, I listened to probably 20 different podcasts a week, y’all. I’m a massive podcaster. So in any case, we have now launched the ability for you to leave us a voicemail on our website, right? So it is completely anonymous, you don’t have to give us your name, you can but you don’t have to. And so the way it’s going to work is you go to our website, and right across the top navigation, you’ll see a nav that says voicemail voicemail. And if you click on that, it takes you to a page where you literally record right there on your phone or sitting at your computer or whatever. And then you can listen back to it and make sure you like it. And then you click send. And we get an email notification and we can download it. And here’s what we want to do with these. We want to be able to download your voicemails and include them in the podcasts. So for this particular question that Meg has given us, what we want to hear from the audience is to the question again,

Chris 14:35
if you could be any Disney animal, which one would you be? And why?

Kelli 14:41
Write any Disney animal which one would you be and why? So what we would love to do is have an episode soon like a special episode, bonus episode just where we discuss this topic because we think it’s such a phenomenal topic. And so we would like for your voicemails to be featured in this app. So and then we will also share who we would be. Okay? So go to our website, click on voicemail. This is completely free, y’all. It’s just gonna take time. And it’s a little fun thing to think about. Click on voicemail, click a record and send it to us. And we are dying to see what y’all say. We just can’t wait.

Chris 15:20
I’m excited just about the format of this bonus podcast of hearing back from the audience members, all the crazy wild reasons why they choose whatever animal they chose that same thing that had Meg and her sister, like seriously debating, this is such a fun way. So I’m excited about that. And just another way to interact with everybody.

Kelli 15:40
Absolutely. And so I guess you will put it out on all the socials, I’ll put the link out on all the socials. So that y’all can can share there but we are super excited about this show. So this is really the big announcement for season five, other than the the contest that we’ve got going. So please do this because we’re we really want to hear from

Chris 15:59
you. Yep, absolutely. Right. So go do that. What is what Disney animal would you be and why? Yes. And then in later weeks, we will prompt other discussion points. You can help us decide. Yes, yes, yes. All right. You ready for Tomorrowland? Yes. Okay, so in our world in our house is that time of year guess the holiday season? We did not skip over Thanksgiving. We just make Thanksgiving and Christmas one big awesome time of the year. Yes. Disney does too. So so I’m going to cover some of the just general holiday happenings for 2021 at Disney that Walt Disney World and in some of the I’m not gonna go into a ton of detail on some of these because they might be end up being Tomorrowland or something as we get to the holiday season. So first and foremost. The Magic Kingdom will be hosting their very merriest after hours. This is what they used to call this it was

Kelli 17:01
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. I do feel like they could have worked a little bit harder on this nebulous thing

Chris 17:05
very merriest after hours. Yeah, probably. This is a whole year on that. This is definitely a separate purchase item you’re gonna spend some money to do this. I think they’re doing maybe like 18 or so don’t quote me on that specific dates between tomorrow Monday the eighth Okay. right on through December the 30th I think is when the ends the pricing starts this week between like 169 $289 a person depending on what day of the week you go, right and DVC members get a $10 discount until like late November Thanksgiving week after that the prices go up to 209 to 249 a person and there is no DVC discount

Kelli 17:51
right yeah so it’s sort of when it’s most popular they’re gonna charge it’s

Chris 17:54
gonna get more expensive the the the closer to the holidays you get to an event to early dates this coming week have already sold out I think Tuesday and Wednesday this week or the next two days after tomorrow have sold out right, actually. So some of the things you’ll see at the very the well gosh, almost said Very Merry Christmas Party. The very merriest after hours that is that is cumbersome. Mickey’s once upon a time Christmas once upon a Christmas time parade, I think that’s the same as it’s been in the year

Kelli 18:23
it is right with the reindeer and the toy soldiers which are the best things ever. It

Chris 18:27
is the best thing there was a boy soldiers and the reindeer are wonderful. Many wonderful Christmas time fireworks which is obviously that’d be great. Club Tencel This is located at the rocket tower Plaza stage in Tomorrowland. Now we did the club cool one year and they convert cosmic rays into like a Christmas club for teens. And man. I tell you what, it is so great to watch the reindeer actually show up at that party and start dance. Hey,

Kelli 18:55
we’re dancing.

Chris 18:56
I’m telling you that big huge dance and reindeer I have never seen a reindeer work harder. So great.

Kelli 19:01
Oh, great, man. I hope those things have fans inside.

Chris 19:05
And then there’s something called the reindeer wranglers bring their holiday hoedown to the streets of Frontier land. I have a feeling that those reindeer are they’re working overtime they’re

Kelli 19:14
gonna be dancing in frontier land. Okay, yeah, I think so. Okay.

Chris 19:20
Some holiday overlays at Magic Kingdom. Oh by the way the very merry after hours will now officially include a stage show which they have had stage shows in front of the castle for a little while so this will include a stage show also which is nice Jungle Cruise will convert again to Jungle Cruise that’s always fun and holiday hilarity will return to the Monsters Inc laugh floor so basically the monsters in class floor except Christmassy Okay. All right. So

Kelli 19:53
are they doing free snacks and such around the part like used to get like hot chocolate and cookies and such.

Chris 19:58
Maybe I didn’t go into it. It made Be we do a Tomorrowland and we really dig into what all is available probably okay. Um, the candlelight processional will return to the America gardens theater at Epcot. It’s so good. Okay. This will run from and I think a lot of this stuff is has been shortened a bit this year. This will run from November 26 through December 30. I feel like they were running that longer. In years past like it was already would have already started like this coming week.

Kelli 20:25
No, I don’t think so. I think it starts after Thanksgiving.

Chris 20:30
So some people that will they’ve already named Most of the narrator’s this year so Chita Rivera is going to be first and then Jodi Benson out and Fitzgerald white, Lisa Lange. Then December 23 24th, and 25th will be Steven Curtis Chapman.

Kelli 20:50
Oh wow. Yeah,

Chris 20:51
that’s a really good one for to actually be on December really on Christmas rather No, Neil Patrick Harris. No, Neil, but I thought about that too. You just said that.

Kelli 21:02
Oh, my goodness. I’m

Chris 21:03
telling you it’s shorter Dougie. It’s shorter is shorter this year. They don’t have enough time for me. I’ve just I normally have a lot more people Whoopi Goldberg.

Kelli 21:11
No, no,

Chris 21:12
no, neither does become

Kelli 21:14
a little controversial This year though. I don’t know that they would want controversies.

Chris 21:18
Whoopi is wonderful. She’s a lover. I’m

Kelli 21:21
just saying I don’t think they’d want to raise controversy around the right

Chris 21:25
right after Christmas is Blair Underwood.

Kelli 21:28
Okay. These people honey I’m sorry. A single person that I know Yeah.

Chris 21:36
I’m just say Jack. Jack What is he 125 but he looks like he’s 24

he has been

Kelli 21:51
with him and was like pointing to the to the choir she as she pointed to the choir they started

Chris 21:59
so good. I’m just

Kelli 22:04
she’s got something I’m gonna go fix the dogs for a second. Go ahead.

Chris 22:08
So and the Epcot is going to have the festival the holidays anyway again this year which is great. And that will come with all kinds of food and I’m sure the cookie stroll is coming back and we’ll want to dig into all that in details in probably Tomorrowland for Kelly next week, frankly,

Kelli 22:22
yes, I was about to say I’ve got some Tomorrowland is coming up where I’m going to be super on brand.

Chris 22:26
Okay, so I won’t go into too much detail about that. But the festival holidays at Epcot is always a good time. This year, they will have holiday storytellers and other holiday entertainment, including las Posadas at the Mexican pavilion. Canadian holiday voyagers at the Canadian pavilion is

Unknown Speaker 22:47
that I don’t know it’s not off kilter.

Chris 22:51
It’s not off couch if anything other than off kilter. You think,

Kelli 22:54
oh, that off kilter sucks.

Chris 22:55
Well,

Kelli 22:56
that’s what should be in Canada. I

Chris 22:58
agree with you. I agree with the Chinese Lion dancing in the Chinese Pavilion, which is really cool. They will have a Hanukkah storyteller along the promenade, which is cool along with delightful holiday storytellers in France, Italy, Japan, Norway and the UK. I love that sounds like so much fun. And then outside the American adventure, you can actually wave hello to Santa Claus as he gets ready for his big day.

Kelli 23:27
Oh, nice. Nice.

Chris 23:31
Couple of other quick hitters living with the land at Epcot will get a merry and bright nights holiday overlay live with we did that a couple years ago, I think and they kid put lights up in the greenhouse and everything. Yeah. Santa Claus will be at Walt Disney World, including what they are calling in air quotes here. Individualized time with guests.

Kelli 23:55
Why? Why is that an air quotes meaning it’s not

Chris 23:57
only individual, I don’t think you can sit on Santa’s lap here in the world of COVID and tell him what you want for Christmas. But there’s they’re working it out some way that you can actually tell Santa what you want for Christmas. Just maybe not without sitting on Santa’s lap.

Kelli 24:10
Okay. Very interested.

Chris 24:14
That’s a weird tradition. Anyway, honestly, if you think about it creepy, super creepy. So you can catch a sight of Santa cruising down Hollywood Boulevard in his candy red convertible Hollywood Studios.

You can also go to Animal Kingdom and you can spot Santa voyaging across the discovery river spreading joyous spirit of the season from his festive Flotilla.

Kelli 24:46
Oh no, that’s a flotilla is that what we call those little boats? Yeah, did not cut No, we call them flotillas, but that’d be nice to see from from Nomad lounge like we saw all the Christmas you were just waving at them.

Chris 24:59
We sure were or can we share word and we sure will again except it won’t be Christmas. He will also be at the Magic Kingdom park Epcot and Disney Springs where guests will have quote individualized time to wave hello and share their Christmas wishes. The

Kelli 25:14
word individualize really inquiry. Yeah,

Chris 25:16
well no, no it’s not I put it in here putting

Kelli 25:18
it in quotes. Okay. All right. Yeah.

Chris 25:20
And then lastly at the animal kingdom, the Mary menagerie holiday puppets return now. Have you ever seen these guys? I didn’t

Kelli 25:29
realize it was injury holiday puppets.

Chris 25:32
Do you remember the big polar bear puppets that came walking by and the big foxes and penguins and reindeer puppets?

Kelli 25:40
I think I do. Yeah, walking. But yes. Yeah,

Chris 25:44
there’ll be back this year. That’s cute. Yeah. And that was those puppets were amazing. They’ll be interacting with people and everything. Okay, so that’s nice. So there’s lots of fun things that you can get into of course, we’re going on January 2. So we are managing the impossible here. We’re going to Disney at a time when there is no festival going on at Epcot.

Kelli 26:11
You do it, you got to do it. That’s

Chris 26:13
when you can go.

Kelli 26:14
That’s right.

Chris 26:15
All right. You ready for the World Showcase? I am.

Kelli 26:18
Yes. So I am completely off brand this week. But I’m sure we’re gonna love it, but I’m excited about it. So we’re going to be talking about the electrical water pageant. Now when you google this, I gotta tell you, you see results like electrical water parade electric lights, bright on the water, all of that kind of stuff. It is officially called the electrical water pageant. Now let me tell you how Disney describes this, which I find very interesting. This is on their website, an underwater world of mystery. A bright green sea monster leads an enchanting twinkling musical pageant you can see and hear from locations along the shore. The procession includes a stirring and inspirational medley of patriotic songs, while Stars and Stripes float along with shimmering water. Don’t miss this beloved nighttime delight.

Chris 27:11
It is a nighttime delight

Kelli 27:13
it is I don’t know that I’ve ever called they like shimmering water. So I feel like their copywriter might have taken a little bit of liberty there.

Chris 27:21
Shut your dirty

Kelli 27:24
bait like yesterday. It’s the water okay. It filled with alligators that he children. So okay, it’s a case. We’re doing electrical water pageant now. I’m going to be full on Chris put them a Chris hat here. I’m gonna give you a little bit of history. But first, let me just say this debuted on October the 25th of 1971 which means they literally just celebrated the 50th anniversary of the electrical waters just

Chris 27:53
a few weeks after the parks anniversary. Yes

Kelli 27:57
is their anniversary their 50th anniversary so it is celebrating its 50th anniversary along with the part which is pretty cool that it launched the same year the park launch. Okay, so the water pageant on Bay Lake goes around the lagoon every night weather permitting, and I would say this is about between like nine o’clock and 10 o’clock. They do schedule this so that it does not interfere with the Magic Kingdom fireworks. So if there’s a firework show, they’ll change the time slightly. It is one of the longest running Disney shows and the predecessor to the Main Street Electrical Parade. So this was the inspiration of the Main Street Electrical Parade, which is the music, the lights all very, very similar to the Main Street Electrical Parade. Okay, so this information comes from the Disney fandom wiki, which I absolutely love. So I’m gonna give you a little bit of insight into what it was when it opened in 1971. Okay, so first of all, this was a thing where it was like, hey, we need to do something with this water. It’s really dark out here. There’s no lighting. You can’t really see lights from the city or anything like that. So we’ve got a really dark space. What can we do with it? And they thought, let’s just try this. Okay, so there were 14 floats on its opening night. And it also included fireworks and pyrotechnics march from the 14 floats and an additional float behind them. Oh, no kidding. So it was a thing.

Chris 29:22
That is big time.

Kelli 29:23
It was a real thing. All of that was filmed by Walt Disney Productions and edited down for inclusion into the Wonderful World of Disney episode called the grand opening of Walt Disney World. Okay, which aired on NBC October 29 of 1972 days after launch, right. Is that cool? I mean, which is that’s pretty amazing that they did that amount of editing at that 1971 That quickly, right? Because they weren’t shooting this digitally. Right. That’s true. Okay, so again, this is all from the wiki. So the Paul beaver version of John Jack Perry and Gershon Kingsley’s Roque hoedown was created especially for the electrical water pageant, and it was used from 1971 to 1977. So that was the music that you heard the original Disneyland Main Street Electrical Parade, use that same soundtrack from 1972 to 74. Wow, they actually use the same soundtrack. That’s great and that cool. In 1977. It they premiered an updated version of the parade and a new but similar Walt Disney World Main Street Electrical Parade and they use a new version of the Baroque hoedown, okay, which was updated by Don Dorsey. Okay, okay. But so very interesting. So a lot has changed, but let’s just talk about the lineup. So the original lineup of the parade was a sea serpent. Now the sea serpent takes up three floats. Okay. Then the whale to sea lions playing with a ball. Yes, a clamshell opening and closing to reveal a mermaid. Three goldfish swimming in bubbles. Three jumping dolphins and that’s three floats. Three red haired mermaids. Now isn’t it interesting that that’s the detail. I mean, that like you know redheads are often used in these types of situations like a mermaid isn’t real and neither are redheads. Do you want me to go down that?

Chris 31:32
Was this the electrical water pageant where let’s just keep it like after

Kelli 31:35
the fake redheaded mermaids. We’ve got the octopus, three flying fish for seahorses and King Neptune. Okay, so King Neptune was last ice. Okay, the order was changed from 1972 to 1976 to remove the mermaid in the clamshell, the clamshell that opened and closed and we took her out. And we rearranged a bunch of the others. So I think that’s so interesting. We talked about all the time the details with Disney. So we’ve launched this slight scope, right? It goes on for a year and then in 1972 We’re like the order is wrong. And that clamshell mermaid does not belong gotta go pull her out. I

Chris 32:19
think that’s somebody who’s sitting around really thinking about

Kelli 32:22
somebody’s really thinking about it. Okay, so in 1977, the order was changed and the new music was added and some of the floats were removed again. So then it started with sea serpent, which is now four floats, the whale, the turtle, the octopus, three jumping dolphins, three floats. A Brachiosaurus, so of course, was added in 97, a sea monster slash crocodile was added. And he’s called the bass sea monster for seahorses King Neptune. And that’s when they added the Stars and Stripes. There we go. Okay, so that was 1977. And that went on for quite some time. In 96, it was changed to our present version. Besides the changes I’m going to tell you that are happening for the 50 It’s so quiz for you. Do you think you can name the order the floats for the present version? Not

Chris 33:19
a chance?

Kelli 33:20
Not a chance? Really? Not

Chris 33:22
a chance?

Kelli 33:23
Really? You don’t want to try?

Chris 33:25
I mean, I think the sea monster comes first sea serpent sea serpent comes first. And that still for floats? Yeah, I have no idea what comes after him. Okay,

Kelli 33:35
the next is the whale. Okay, the next is the turtle. Oh, yeah. Then the octopus. Three jumping dolphins, which are three floats. Brachiosaurus? Still Alive and kicking the crocodile? Which now it’s just called a crocodile. Sure. For seahorses Yep. King Neptune. Love it. Okay. And so each of these floats have their own songs. Yes. Okay, so like it starts with fanfare from The Little Mermaid Sure. The sea serpent song is boo bop boo bop bop. I love you too. For Peace dragon. Yes, whale is a whale of a tale from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Turtle doesn’t have a song let’s talk about how they marginalize the turtle. Why don’t we the octopus has poor unfortunate souls from The Little Mermaid. The three jumping dolphins no song marginalized orphans Brachiosaurus is walked the dinosaur by was not was Oh was not was yeah sure. Never heard of that. The crocodile is never smelled a crocodile from Peter Pan. The sea horses are fanfare from out of the sea through him back to the original and King Neptune fanfare from the sea back to the original. Then after you’ve made it through all those all the floats change to the American flag Stars and Stripes and they sing your Grand Old Flag Yankee Doodle in America the Beautiful it was some fireworks. Yes, the Closing is fireworks and jig from The Little Mermaid. Okay, now, today’s 50th anniversary version. Yeah. Okay, so again they’ve everything’s been you know, pixie dust or whatever. So now they’ve added best on my account. I was looking through some videos and stuff on YouTube and Insta. It looks like at least six floats maybe seven sure it could be three castle and then three more floats. But it looks to me like six or seven floats which in the center of those is the castle with the 50th anniversary logo. And so then the floats on the side of that are just like like waves of that iridescent purple. Yeah, and then the castle has like what looks like fireworks coming up from behind it. Okay, so it’s Cindy’s castle with the 50th logo. And then the new show also has a message for each resort as it goes by them so it’ll say like aloha to our friends at the Polynesian right yes. And now it’s playing the magic is calling themes of course Yeah, right. So I will just say this always catches me off guard always say everything about it. It’s my favorite thing we always forget about it. We never plan for it. It always catches me off guard and my favorite place to watch it is sitting in an adirondack chair on the beach at the pile absolutely right like we’ve gone over to the poly and watch the fireworks the Magic Kingdom fireworks and then after that we’ll just be sitting on the beach like doo doo doo and then here will come the water pray and it makes us sad tap water right sorry pageant. It makes us so happy

Chris 36:40
even even the we stayed at bay like one time and on the balcony there and suddenly there goes there it

Kelli 36:46
goes. I mean, I don’t think there’s any there’s no better way to end today at Disney

Chris 36:50
I know and it’s always by accident and it’s so simple. Yep. I loved how they you know classic there was only two of those resorts outside of the Magic Kingdom when this thing launched and yet there were like how do we bring some joy out of the park to these resorts

Kelli 37:04
call acid awesome.
