Episode Transcript:

Chris 0:27
Welcome aboard Disney fam. Hey, welcome aboard Disney family. Indeed. My name is Chris.

Kelli 0:37
And I’m Kelly Kelly. You

Chris 0:38
have decided to go with the gaudy British royalty years,

Kelli 0:43
Goldie.

Chris 0:44
They’ve got big flowers am offended and a bow, a Union Jack bow and a big gold Queen’s growl I

Kelli 0:55
am offended. So first of all, I’m wearing it because the person that I’m speaking about tonight is royalty indeed. And these are not gaudy. Please move along.

Chris 1:07
You want to know where we had some downloads from I do? We had downloads this week from Hollywood, Florida. Oh, no. That’s fun. Yeah. So it’s, uh, you know, I was gonna say like, from Hollywood, you were gonna get all excited. And then I was gonna say Hollywood, Florida, but that would be disparaging to the good folks at Hollywood, Florida, right. It’s a neighborhood just north of Miami. I think we have a race there maybe a NASCAR race. Poughkeepsie, New York. I think we’ve had Poughkeepsie but we’ve never had Poughkeepsie. I thought we’ve had to Kelsey, I do a CTRL F every week to read Poughkeepsie. There in the Hudson River Valley halfway between New York City and Albany. Beautiful, beautiful part of the Pleasanton California. Nice. It’s east of the Bay Area. And we were huge. By the way, the Bay Area we got so many so many downloads from the Bay Area. But plus it’s and in particular 2005 and 2007 was ranked the wealthiest middle sized city in the United States according to the census bureau wealthiest

Kelli 2:14
middle sized city in the United States. I’m not sure that’s like a I don’t know if that’s I don’t think that’s a real award.

Chris 2:22
The Census Bureau done since you’re a given wealthiest middle sized city. Well, good for you. Pleasanton,

Kelli 2:32
internationally

Chris 2:34
cradley Heath, England.

Kelli 2:38
Nice English. Oh, my ears coffee when we’ve got people listening from the UK

Chris 2:45
should be more careful. We’re huge there.

Kelli 2:48
Were for the monarchy

Chris 2:50
was nine miles was to Birmingham right in the middle of this country. He sorry, Birmingham. Probably UK

Kelli 2:56
listeners. He’s sorry. The ears are not gaudy. They’re lovely. For the Union Jack. I mean, all of it. The Crown, the flowers, all of it. It’s not gaudy, it’s it’s Royal.

Chris 3:11
It’s regal. Yeah. Regal. You ready for some Mainstreet action. Disney says that the facemask mandate in Florida or at the parks in three days ago, there were 17 Okay, there is an exception on all enclosed transportation vehicles. monorails, Schuyler Skyliner and buses for example. And they are technically saying that if you’re unvaccinated, they want you to wear a mask when you’re indoors.

Kelli 3:41
But you’re not showing proof of vaccine. No. So Orlando doesn’t care. No, come on. Well, Florida for sure. doesn’t care. Florida couldn’t possibly care less? No,

Chris 3:49
no, I saw an interesting thing today about how 20 years ago a guy had an explosive device in his shoe and tried to ignite it with a match on an airplane. And for the last 20 years, everybody that’s ever gone through an airport has had to take their shoes off and be inspected. But now masks are a problem. So you know,

Kelli 4:12
TSA is at the gates. I mean, because people let TSA grab their crotch, right?

Chris 4:23
cast member compliment, which is weird last week, we talked about cast members and how you could compliment them and you could use the My Disney Experience app is one way it was it didn’t really work the way it should have. It was really only a way to let you sort of compliment a group of cast members.

Kelli 4:40
Like the people it’s a small world are killing it today,

Chris 4:44
I think yeah. But now you can you can now as of just recently, you can now enter the cast members first name and their hometown. So there you go. So that should have been now they get recognition that they deserve. Yes, yes. Um moonlight magic events have returned to or will are returning to Walt Disney World for DVC members. Okay, we did a moonlight magic event at Animal Kingdom. It was fantastic.

Kelli 5:09
It was fun. I mean, I will say we were I expected the lines to be shorter.

Chris 5:14
That’s true.

Kelli 5:15
And it wasn’t that it wasn’t like you could walk on to every ride to

Chris 5:20
a lot. Pandora Pandora was still I mean I think everybody thought well we thought well we’re gonna wait till wait until doing like magic. Yeah, and but now we could walk on just about anything else.

Kelli 5:32
Right but everybody was ever right.

Chris 5:34
I remember I stayed in the full line that night let my family go with Fastpasses

Kelli 5:39
that was the day that we got rained on the entire time amazing pictures we were miserable and we did not leave that park or like by God we’re staying for moonlight Magic Man. We were there for get dry, lighter. 16 hours we were at Animal Kingdom soaking wet the entire time. Yeah, that is dedication.

Chris 5:58
Why today you catch a little beverage there and love the NEMO show.

Kelli 6:02
I did that was that was the day we had the NEMO did so many things. Oh my goodness. Wow.

Chris 6:08
That was a day

Kelli 6:09
and that was a day felt like three

Chris 6:13
days. Disney is increasing ticket prices for multi day tickets. Welcome to 2022 everybody. That’s what’s happening. Everybody’s increasing their prices. Yep. This is a fun one. Lin Manuel Miranda apparently approached Bob jpg according to Lin Manuel Miranda’s own words. As for an idea for in Kanto inspired attraction. And what I read was he said, I know there’s a world in which like I Sita has an attraction to Disney

Kelli 6:44
World Park. Yeah, he’s right.

Chris 6:46
He is dead. Right.

Kelli 6:47
I think he’s absolutely right. It would be a ton of fun, be fantastic. I mean, I do believe get rid of Swiss Family Robinson tree house.

Chris 6:53
I mean, if we’ll I don’t know about get rid of it’s just a space suck. It’s classic. Nobody goes they do go.

Kelli 6:59
We see lines there every single time. Well, they’re stupid people in the world that we know. And I was like, why are we doing this?

Chris 7:07
If if Swiss Family Robinson has a has an attraction for their house, right? Put like casita in there. It’d be way better. It would be it would be way better. It’s magical. It’s magical. Construction on the Tron light cycle began four years ago as a Valentine’s Day.

Kelli 7:25
Oh, my goodness, like crazy. Wow.

Chris 7:30
They’re getting there. They’re getting there. They’re still finishing up that. But the ride vehicles have started arriving.

Kelli 7:41
I did see that. I definitely saw that.

Chris 7:45
A little galactic starcruiser Fun News. So a new Star Wars novel is coming out because Star Wars novels come out every six or seven minutes, it seems like but the latest one will have Han and lay as actual wedding. And they apparently honeymoon on the Halcyon, which is the galactic

Kelli 8:05
starcruiser does it take its debut

Chris 8:08
voyage this week. I think it’s this week.

Kelli 8:11
I think it’s a preview. Yeah, I think Michael does. Disney is on a preview. Like as of Monday of this week, I believe. Yep, of course he is soft, soft opening soft, like an out of town preview.

Chris 8:23
If you know what that’s referencing, by the way, just shoot us a little tweet and say I love it when you guys tell that out of town preview joke. It’s one of my favorite movies. love to know if there’s anybody else that’s just about the

Kelli 8:36
only people who quote random movies

Chris 8:38
and Epcot figment popcorn buckets are back. You said that 1000s are in stock 1000s and 1000s but they’ve got a better system they do they now want you to get them through mobile order no more eight our lines just fans.

Kelli 8:52
Oh my gosh.

Chris 8:56
My chiropractor was there that day that they had the long line he didn’t know anything about the he had no idea why people were waiting. Yeah, he had no idea. Yeah, but he was like a grilled chicken was something for as long six hours I was like it was for popcorn buckets. What? Yeah. Good times. A Daisy Duck meet and greet is now possible outside of Guardians of the Galaxy cosmic rewind. And Epcot. I mean Daisy duct is not somebody you get to meet and greet with enough

Kelli 9:22
outside of Guardians of the Galaxy cosmic rewind. I

Chris 9:26
mean I’m not saying the place for DAISY but you know a little tougher in Mexico know that it’s got something to do with pulling people over to that part of the park there’s nothing right now over there. There’s like literally very test tracks down half the time I think Daisy

Kelli 9:42
should be in France or there somewhere where she can wear just like a lovely outfit and drink champagne wearing a lovely wearable yep fluffy little tail back and forth at

Chris 9:51
everything. They got to pull people away from other parts of the park and they think Daisy is gonna do it a good for Desi. I think she’s got a dinner Okay, Daisy can absolutely do that.

Kelli 10:02
I think I’d be like selling Daisy shore. I think I’d be like Daisy. Daisy is all the way over there. Yeah, sexist. They put Donald in Mexico and shove Daisy in a corner. Yes, they

Chris 10:13
did. Nobody puts Daisy in a corner.

Kelli 10:16
Nothing else on the other side of the park. Let’s put Daisy.

Chris 10:20
Daisy in the corner. That’s That’s funny. Random Movie Quotes topiaries have started showing up at Epcot ahead of the Flower and Garden Festival. Lots of cute little topiaries and they just look great. I’m always blown away. Um, did I say this last week that animal kingdom they’re looking for aerial dancers for the celebration of The Lion King Show,

Kelli 10:39
I think. No, I don’t remember. I think a couple weeks ago, they were looking for something and you said it was the monkeys. They were looking for somebody who were really good on a trapeze. Right but trapeze a trampoline or trampling.

Chris 10:50
Yes. Now they’re looking for aerial dancers in there. The concern is of the wonder is, are they getting ready to open up the full show again, and it sounds like raishin they have like also relaunched like all of the shows in a day. Right? So more shows. Yeah. Um, the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa is about to undergo a lengthy refurb that’s going to last throughout 2023 So that’s fun. Disney Land is doing sweetheart nights if they’d been doing this in February, it’s like five nights in February they do the sweetheart nights. It’s a Disneyland afterdark series. They’ll do Star Wars also like in May in some other one this year. Villain nights I think is one like you pay extra paychecks as part of a limited time limited crowd event at Disneyland Park runs five nights in February. And so like you get to see like almost two dozen Disney couples.

Kelli 11:45
Couples like Donald and Daisy Mickey and me Yes, but

Chris 11:49
you see like lots of like, not often seen characters. I mean, they’re gonna have like they’ll have like Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps from Zootopia will be are allowed. Okay. Mary Poppins and Bert, Clara Bell cow and horse horse collar. I mean, you don’t see those

Kelli 12:10
rare belts very marginalized. Well, that Carl and Ellie.

Chris 12:14
Oh, I’m sure I just don’t see them in the list is Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.

Kelli 12:20
They probably with Russell so everybody just feels sad for him. Ellie died.

Chris 12:26
Well, it’s it’s a good point. It’s a good point.

Kelli 12:30
Molly and Eve.

Chris 12:33
Eva Eva. The Doctor Strange trailer dropped during the Superbowl last week. Okay, lots of theories about who and what we’re seeing in there. Like there’s a this is all about the metaverse, so there’s different versions of you know, the Marvel Universe out there. And some people are wondering if there’s going to be a super superior Ironman, which is a very random Marvel character, and if it’s going to be played by Tom Cruise.

Kelli 13:03
I haven’t watched in a word you said Super Bowl.

Chris 13:07
Or Maria Rambo version of Captain Marvel that was her friend that was the pilot in the movie. But instead of it being captain

Kelli 13:13
marvel didn’t die. No, no, it’s

Chris 13:15
a whole Multiverse thing. Where a version of Captain Marvel that was Maria Rambo instead of Carol Danvers.

Kelli 13:23
So in another version, Tony Stark didn’t die. So Why would Tom Cruise be Iron Man, if Tony Stark didn’t die? He could be Iron Man.

Chris 13:34
You know, I thought about just skipping over and talking about the Rescue Rangers coming back instead of this instead of the multiverse thing.

Kelli 13:41
I’ll get the multiverse and see it’s too much for me. My brains too full was

Chris 13:52
the elite academic. I’m gonna go into tomorrow and talk about our retirement.

Kelli 14:00
Are we retiring at 46?

Chris 14:02
Although although I might as well can we retire at 50? Only one of us has a job. So it’s like I’m retired. So if you have been hanging around this Twitter, then you have heard about Disney launching a new an entirely new business frontier for themselves. They’re calling it story living by Disney. Yep. These are masterplan new home communities, some of which are for residents 55 and older, so we can retire 55 Or at least we can move into their 55 and then retire a few years after that probably probably had started a whole new career after that Frank

Kelli 14:46
really well to afford it.

Chris 14:48
I mean, we used to live near like a Sun City and that was a 55 and older community loved it and absolutely loved it. I wanted to take idea 30 seriously just to move in there. Yes, but this sounds like and it doesn’t sound these are gonna be all just feet five and older. It specifically says some of the neighborhoods are 55 and older,

Kelli 15:10
right? Well, that’s where we want to be. I don’t want to be in a family neighborhood. If I’m 55 That’s right. Right I want hot tubs and pools to myself, the families in a different location.

Chris 15:19
So here’s what they say on the on the actual website. Imagine your life set in a place where world where the world famous Disney service is, at the heart of it all. I can imagine that yes, it’d be lovely. The first community is going to be set in the greater Palm Springs area of California specifically the Coachella Valley in Rancho Mirage, California. Future locations will supposedly be in places that folks really want to visit or even potentially live in. More importantly, they will build on the various cultures and Heritage’s that make those locations unique. Nice. So they’re, they’re really they’re building this community in Rancho Mirage based on the cultures and the history of that area of the country, right. Okay. These meetings will have gathering spots for food and fun times that will be managed completely by Disney cast members. So

Kelli 16:16
it’d be like here this Thursday, we’re doing a barbecue at at the casita.

Chris 16:23
Right, right. But imagine, you know, every restaurant you go to when you’re in Disney is managed by Disney cast. This is this is what it’s going to be like. Okay, so more about the specifically this first. This first community that they’re building in Rancho Mirage. It’s called Cuttino a story living by Disney community. Okay, Cuttino it’s fun to say contino. So here’s from the website about Katina, dynamic, creative Oasis set within a stunning the stunning landscape of Palm Springs, the ultimate destination for curious dreamers and doers seeking exploration, innovation and inspiration. They hope to quote empower all who live here creating a vibrant atmosphere that encourages residents to keep dreaming and keep doing. No, no, I

Kelli 17:19
mean, I’m for it. I’m just all I hear dollar signs every word you say? Well,

Chris 17:24
unfortunately, that’s not going to change throughout the rest of this description, right? Yeah, Disney has found another way to just just continue to rake it in. I believe. They will offer both condominiums and single single family homes. And for this specific community zoning approvals have are already in place for hotels, or at least a hotel shopping and dining and entertainment venues. It’s going to be fun. This will encircle a 24 acre turquoise pond, made turquoise by something called Crystal lagoons. Technology. Like that was a brand. Okay. I want to look at that because this thing is supposed to be legit turquoise, like you can swim in it. Yeah. They refer to that that that 24 acre pond as the oasis. Okay, so what if I say that going forward? Are

Kelli 18:16
there fish in it?

Chris 18:18
That I don’t know. I did not read that.

Kelli 18:21
But they’re calling it a pond. Which implies like it’s yeah, that’s like, but they it implies fish. Otherwise you would just say a large pool. I don’t know that. That’s quite racist. Definitely implying like some kind of a muddy bottom with fish. Pond pond.

Chris 18:39
I think you’re really bringing out the South Carolina there. I don’t get the impression of muddy bottom here. In the artist’s rendering, I certainly didn’t get the impression of muddy bottoms. Weird phrase muddy bottoms. That Oasis will be the setting for a promenade allowing you to enjoy the views of the lake and the Santa Ana mountain range in the distance. It will also offer a professionally managed Beach Park, including water activities, though you’ll probably had to buy a day pass to enjoy it. Why was Palm Springs first for Latino?

Kelli 19:20
If we assume that’s where all the rich people live? Well, it

Chris 19:23
has definitely been a destination for relaxation by the rich and famous over decades US presidents Hollywood celebrities have visited for decades. Walt Disney specifically said that this area of the world was his laughing place. So it made sense to go there and and be able to at least say that we’re

Kelli 19:43
going to laugh in people’s faces as we take loads of their cash.

Chris 19:49
taken such a cynical view of what our retirement is going to be.

Kelli 19:53
What story are we living in your own?

Chris 19:55
That’s it. You’re writing the next chapter of your own story. I was like a person segue into what their tagline is. write the next chapter of your own story in a perfect setting.

Kelli 20:07
You’re welcome. I would love to write the next chapter of my story in a perfect setting. Can I just put that out there? I would love for the next chapter of my story to be in a perfect setting. Yes. Do they guarantee that ah,

Chris 20:18
that was I mean, we can just do a screenshot of our website there is a there is a club that you can voluntarily join if you so desire. The voluntary club membership includes a waterfront clubhouse private private private beach club access club only water activities wellness programming Disney entertainment and activities started the year so think live performances cooking classes wellness programs like gotta

Kelli 20:48
join the club take you would have to join if you’re buying a house it story living in Palm Springs join the Club. That’s what I think. I mean, this isn’t you’re not penny pinching here basically. So

Chris 20:58
here’s here’s my impression is this is this is a long, you know, not overly wide but a long pond beautiful pond Lake whatever. And a one hand you got to park think, like, if you’ve ever been we just went this past summer to a beach park we went to I’m gonna tell

Kelli 21:20
you what it’s modeled after it’s modeled after the park in the Mary Poppins books by PL Travers. Oh, maybe so you described is exactly that park with a beach and a lake. Exactly.

Chris 21:30
So you got a beach park there. And then on one of the long sides of the lake, you’re going to have the club. And it’s going to have its own beach and water activities and everything that goes along with the club. Across from the club on the other side of the long side of the lake. You’re going to have things like Disney Springs with a long promenade type stores. Right along the waterfront. Right. That’s what I think this is going to be and I think that that would be a lovely place for us to live.

Kelli 21:58
It does sound lovely honey, do we need to rob one bank or two? Oh,

Chris 22:05
that’s cute. Two bags. But look, you’ve got this. You’ve got a neighborhood in in Walt Disney World called golden duck. I don’t think that we’re do not believe this will be like golden out style homes. There’s I mean, they may have a neighborhood that’s golden oak style homes. But I think that there will be you know, some more affordable houses. Yeah,

Kelli 22:27
we’ve got like celebrations. Wasn’t that a Disney neighborhood?

Chris 22:30
Look at so I mean, that’s a town.

Kelli 22:32
That’s Walt Disney.

Chris 22:34
I think Walt Disney created the town. Good look to see what celebrations is all about.

Kelli 22:39
There is nothing affordable in Palm Springs. I love your optimism. That’s probably what we’re building it in Palm Springs first. So so by the very nature of it by the nature of Palm Springs, but nothing affordable there. They’re not going to price their condos in a more affordable rate than the rest of them. Up

Chris 22:55
here in Prairie Home, Nebraska, that’s going to be more affordable. When

Kelli 22:59
are they opening in Prairie Home Nebraska.

Chris 23:02
They were asking for us to move into where people wanted

Kelli 23:08
to Prairie Home last week, and I don’t know that there’s enough like acreage acreage there for a Disney community.

Chris 23:15
But there’s there’s plenty of acres there for a Disney community. I don’t know if there’s any demand for people. There’s demand that would that would create the demand for people to move there. We’d move there for that.

Kelli 23:28
To Prairie Home, yeah. For

Chris 23:31
to live to live this Disney lifestyle to have cast members serving you your meals and selling you all the stuff in the shop. They can

Kelli 23:38
promise me perfection in that chapter of my life. I will move there. Okay, well, that’s what they say on the website, then I’ll move there. I want to be promised perfection in the next chapter of my life. When does that chapter start? Exactly What page are we on in the current chapter?

Chris 23:54
We got long chapters. This is not one of those feels

Kelli 23:57
like a really long. This is like Anna Karenina in really tiny print. Sweat if that’s what it feels like Tolstoy wrote this. Tolstoy wrote this.

Chris 24:10
Oh gosh, how is your World Showcase gonna be a little more upbeat.

Kelli 24:14
It is mostly upbeat. Yes.

Chris 24:16
You know, I know what it’s about. I think it’s probably it is.

Kelli 24:20
So I’m going to you know, last week I did. Women of Color in executive level positions. We talked about those strong women. And so I wanted to continue that theme again for Black History Month. Sure. And talk about why I believe that Tiana is the best Disney princess and that she deserves way more than what they have given her. Yes, Tiana is due. She is due and there are rumors swirling about. No they are not going to do the the re imagining that Shereena worked so hard on about that they

Chris 24:57
have taken it off the website.

Kelli 24:58
I’m pissed off of at it, because Tiana deserved it and so did she Rita Shereena worked her butt off on that reimagining, no. got me fired up right here the intro

Chris 25:11
only update.

Kelli 25:15
Let me give you a little background for those of you that aren’t super familiar with Tiana or don’t understand why she is the best Disney princess and why she’s phenomenal role model for all young girls, especially young girls of color. So first of all, we got Princess Tiana of Macedonia. Sometimes she’s referred to as Tia. She was the protagonist in Disney’s 2009. Unbelievable. The Princess and the Frog, I cannot believe that came out in 2000. Now she’s a gifted cook living in New Orleans during the Jazz Age, which is the 1920s with dreams of opening a restaurant of her own. Now one of the big issues here with Tiana in New Orleans in 1920s is the fact that they don’t address the Jim Crow South at all. So this is just a happy go lucky Jazz Age. Now Tiana and her family do live across the tracks, which is realistic, but we don’t go any further into the Jim Crow regime at that time. So it’s a little bit romanticized about what New Orleans would have looked like in the 20s. But whatever Tiana is living her life there man and she’s killing it. In a desperate attempt to achieve her goal. Tiana ends up sharing a kiss with a prince that had been magically transformed into a frog by an evil voodoo witch doctor. I mean, don’t we all worry about that when we share kisses with guys? What if this is a press that has been magically transformed to a fraud by an evil voodoo witch doctor? Totally normal plot twist. Sure. In doing so however, Tiana also falls victim to the curse, setting off an adventure in the bayou to find a cure. She is the ninth official Disney Princess and the most recent to originate from a traditionally animated film. Yes, right. Right. Tiana made history as the first African American princess in the Disney Princess franchise. I’m going to go on record as saying I think she’s the prettiest. I think she has the best dress that lilypad dress is gorgeous. And I love Tiana. Like she doesn’t hide her southern accent. She owns her in the park. She still owns it. I love that about Tiana right. It’s great. So early in development. Tiana was originally called Maddie. And she worked as a chambermaid in the booth household, okay, which is probably more realistic, probably more realist timing. Okay, but public criticism eventually caused her character’s name to be changed to Tiana and her job as a waitress. Not much better, to be honest, but still, she’s earning her own living. She’s not technically a slice. This nice spokeswoman Heidi Trada. Later said, Princess Tiana will be a heroine in the great tradition of Disney’s rich animated fairytale legacy and all other characters and aspects of the story will be treated with the greatest respect and sensitivity.

We’ll move on. Mark Hinn served as the supervising animator for Tiana. I’m going to just step out there on the limb. I googled him. He did not appear to be a woman of color. Which I think whatever. He was hired by John Lasseter, some issues there, even though John Lasseter does have a winery. But there was some issues there with with John Lasseter. He was hired anyway, because he had animated nearly every Disney Princess since the little mermaids, Ariel, should we talk about the Disney princesses from the 90s? And about how they spoke less than the men in their films, and that almost all of their dialogue was by song? Should we talk about how unrealistic those women were? Haven’t we talked about that before? I don’t remember if we talked, I just thought I was just bringing it up. If you don’t think we should talk about it, then I won’t talk about it. I just want to say that the animations that this non woman of color completed were not necessarily equitable. Sure. In fact, the Disney princess in the 90s spoke less than the Disney princesses in the 50s. He

Chris 29:20
created the dialogue, whatever stories, whatever,

Kelli 29:23
I’m gonna give you a quote from him. Okay. Hen said that Tiana would follow a new trend in our princesses liking her to Ariel from The Little Mermaid, this new trend that he was talking about, I can only assume is that they will always speak less than the men in the role even if the movie is named after them. We got a movie named after them. And their supporting cast is going to speak more than them because they’re men.

Chris 29:53
I’m just over here with my Scotch man. Right. And so Mark

Kelli 29:56
also says that the fact that Tiana is African American was quote, never a big issue when it came to animating her but drawing her as both a human and a frog did prove difficult.

Chris 30:07
Well, considering that she’s a frog for the violets gonna

Kelli 30:11
get there, we’re gonna get there. Okay, I just want to say I think that was a poor hire. I’m sure Mark is a very talented person. He’s not a woman of color. There should have been a woman of color animating Tiana there should have been a woman of color writing the script, there should have been a woman of color at present at all of the script stations. And so that’s that’s part of what I’m saying here is that Tiana is the best Disney princess and she is do they screwed her? She is due. And we’re going to talk about why she’s due. But first of all, let me just say that that rumor is Disney plus is trying to make good on this and they’re going to be launching a Tiana series in 2023. She is apparently going to be human for the entire series. And she’s gonna be a grown adult with a job and she’s going to be killing it. That’s awesome. Good for Tiana. She deserves every seat. That’s what I’m saying she deserved it in 2009 Two, it’s 2009. This wasn’t 1921 mark. So a couple of misses. We’ve already talked about a few but I really had only two misses listen. This was supposed to be that big segment

Chris 31:21
but the rest of us knew how it was gonna go

Kelli 31:23
you know I get with Tiana. Okay, so a couple of misses. First of all, Tiana is only on screen for 40 of the 137 minute film 40 minutes out of 137 minutes, which I find interesting. Right? So what that means is your starring character your lead Prince is your first African American Prince is is not on camera for 1/3 of the film, and 17 of those 40 minutes are spent as a human and 23 as a frog, which means 58% of her time on camera. She was a frog. She’s not Disney’s first African American princess. She’s Disney’s first frog Princess. Prince Naveen is ethnically ambiguous. I don’t get this at all. Why couldn’t we make Prince Navin also an African American male and just really tout, you know, men of color. You don’t know that Prince, Navin is of color. Maybe Prince Naveen could have been Hispanic, anything else other than ethnically ambiguous give her a strong man of color. If she needs a man at all. Which brings me to word the five reasons that TR is a great role model. Number one. By the way, Tiana is an intelligent, resourceful and highly talented young woman. She’s an amazing cook. She’s an amazing cook those been yeas, may Mr. lebouf, as big as the frigerator.

Chris 32:47
We’d like it all our women’s Gosh. Number two,

Kelli 32:52
she has a strong sense of honor and integrity and a firm believer in hard work. You will see that in a lot of the other princesses. Ariel is just going to sing her way on to that beach. Number three, she has an amazing relationship with her mom and dad who supported her dreams just unconditionally. Right. She and her dad especially have that lovely scene where they’re in the home. She and her mom just crossed back over to the tracks. They go into their little house their little one room house and dad and her singing and cooking. It’s lovely. Sure. Still not a great depiction of Jim Crow south but whatever that’s that’s number three. Number four. Tiana is not looking for a man or centering her entire life around potential suitors. Hello, Ana. So that’s what I’m saying. Right. So she’s got that going for Ariel’s willing to give up her whole family and her fins just to marry Eric who has never even actually spoken to her. Let’s think about Eric is Max. Number five. She never let her friends or her situations derail her dreams. That’s true. Tiana is the strongest Disney Princess out there. She is the only one with a hard work ethic. She’s the only one that wasn’t completely obsessed with finding a man. And she’s intelligent, resourceful. She’s an amazing cook. She is the best representation of what a princess should be. And they screwed her.

Chris 34:19
Well, let’s hope that they make their make good on all that.

Kelli 34:22
I hope they do in their 2023 Disney Plus series. I hope they make good on it. And Tiana, I just want to say I see you girl and I think you are amazing. And here in this month I wanted to celebrate you was my 10 minute segment. You were wrong. You were wrong girl and

Chris 34:43

Kelli 34:46
owe you they owe you girl.
