Episode Transcript:

Chris 0:33
Hello out there to all of our Disney family. We are so happy you’re joining us for this week’s show. My name is Chris and I’m Kelly. And you are wearing your brand spanking new orange bird ears were the ears are aren’t slices.

Kelli 0:48
I know. And they look heavy. They’re not right. They look like they would fall into the same category as those got off Canada ears with the hockey pucks or the French ears with the macaroons, but they don’t. They’re remarkably alike. And I’m very excited about them. And they are adjacent to my segment or this topic. Adjacent topic adjacent. Okay, great.

Chris 1:12
Well, so one of my favorite things, as always, is to find out where we got downloads coming from. So this week I’m excited about getting downloads from New Castle, Delaware. New Castle, one word, New Castle, two words. Okay. This is 5000, folks. Right on the Delaware River South of Wilmington, Delaware. It sounds like yeah, it looks like a lovely place to be South Lyon. I’m assuming that’s how that’s pronounced is Lyo. In South Lyon. Lyon. There may be I mean, we’re in America now. South Lyon, Michigan, this is west of Detroit, but North of Ann Arbor, but I’m sure it’s the lead character in its own play. Really excited about Madison, Wisconsin, this home of the of the Wisconsin Badgers and Camp Randall Stadium and jump around and all that fun stuff. And you know, Madison is often like, ranked in like the top of places to live in America. Oh, that’s cool. Yeah. And so we love them. Very excited to say this next one. Thessaloniki, Greece.

Kelli 2:15
Oh, Greece. Yes.

Chris 2:17
That’s Hello, Nikki, Greece. It’s a port.

Kelli 2:19
Do you need to carry me there?

Chris 2:20
I know you do. I need it. It’s a port city on the thermic Gulf of the Aegean Sea. Sounds like a lovely sound lovely. We’re huge. There. We are huge there. So yay. Thank you all for let’s jump into main street. So we had some folks that support the don’t say gay Bill blocking the entrance to Disney World this week. It’s always a fun time.

Kelli 2:52
You stepped in it, ma’am.

Chris 2:54
You know what? That is? More fun. can cast members are going to be treated to some extended after hours events called iridescent evenings on select dates throughout the summer. Yeah, this is really, really cool. They’ll have select attractions, shows food character meetups, and even some special surprises. So I love that they do stuff like this. I hope that that Yeah. Oh, and the cast members probably can bring one non cast member guests with this one. That’s really, really cool. I love that. It’s

Kelli 3:29
very cool. Yeah, very cool.

Chris 3:31
Also, Walt Disney World has released their Earth Day Food Guide, which I think is they’re basically celebrating all this coming week. Okay, so just some the most interesting thing I saw that is a is a chocolate spice cake that is stuffed down inside of a chocolate boot.

Kelli 3:49
Wow, I think I saw that. Yeah, I remember seeing that. I didn’t realize there was cake stuffed in there. Yeah. Wow, man.

Chris 3:57
I know. They’re really working hard.

Kelli 3:58
I know what let’s make a chocolate boot. And just stuff that thing was some spice cake.

Chris 4:03
It’s great. So I think maybe from wildly the plant that grows out of wildly.

Kelli 4:07
Who cares where it’s from?

Chris 4:09
I to me?

Kelli 4:11
I mean, while he would make sense for Earth Day? Yeah,

Chris 4:14
I mean, that’s the boot with the plant. And he kept carrying around in the movie, right? Sure. Yeah. Some Epcot news, lots of Epcot news. Really? Lots of cosmic rewind. Guardians of the Galaxy. Oh, yeah. Zach’s been posted heavily. Yeah. So they’ve had some cast member previews. outfits. Yes, the outfits were released and the cast members have started riding. And so you can actually go to blog nikki.com they have. They’ve got secondhand ride descriptions on their site. So from a cast from cast members who have told them what the ride is like, the experience is like, that’s cool. It’s pretty cool. They’re like, Look, these are all secondhand and We’re going to be doing our own preview when the annual pass holder previews happen, but still, let’s see what they got to say. Very cool. What we did learn is that they’re the antagonist for the shrine. The bad guy in this thing is a celestial being known as a son, who’s been watching the earth for eons and he’s going to be the bad guy. Here’s the announcement. The Disney visitors hoping to explore and learn a little bit about the first ever otherworldly pavilion in the area we’ll get more than they expected for when II sign a celestial that has been watching Earth for eons makes a startling appearance. The celestial celestial is looking to quote, right or wrong in a big way. And the Guardians of the Galaxy. Our favorite player, the world stepped in to save the day, but they can’t do it without us. Disney DVC previews are sold out, by the way already. They are also at Epcot, the Mallanna attraction has gone vertical. So they’re building a water feature there. That’s going to be amazing. The company’s St. Mark’s company Oh, that’s over in the Italian pavilion. Yep, they’re doing some refurb there on that doesn’t mean much for us. It’s just got some looks like it’s being patched up in some places maybe. Okay. And during harmonious performance this past week, they caused a fire. Small fire, they get it out quickly, but I’ll be honest, at the end of that show, when they’re firing off all those cannons from around the lagoon, I can’t believe that they don’t have a fire every other day.

Kelli 6:32
How did they cause the fire? Do

Chris 6:33
we know what started it was part of the home homeowners we don’t know if it was like fireworks or I believe it was probably fire with rogue, rogue flying or just somebody with a LIDAR? Who knows. I’m assuming it was one of the fireworks at Hollywood Studios. So earlier this week, Disney announced a casting call for the little green army men know that like the drums and stuff. But we don’t know if it was like part of a cavalcade or part of Toy Story land and, and I actually think that they’re there, they already have army men. They’re in one of those areas, whether it’s a caliphate or whatnot, but for whatever reason there they were

Kelli 7:15
calling for more. That sounds like a fantastic casting call.

Chris 7:18
I know and I want to see like the details of that cast here or what does that say

Kelli 7:21
that would be fantastic.

Chris 7:23
But they have now postponed that casting call with no word on why or for how long but they didn’t say canceled. It’s specifically who looks

Kelli 7:31
at it. And it’s like that’s me, man. I’m

Chris 7:33
absolutely perfect. Green army man with no distinct facial features. I would be perfect for that. Already

Kelli 7:41
walk like that.

Chris 7:46
I went huge shoes as it is. Animal Kingdom after a long refurb and but not oddly, not long after extending like the downtown downtime to indefinitely on Everest weird. They’ve reopened Expedition Everest. They actually opened it a little bit earlier even than they said they would and castmembers were the first ones to

Kelli 8:09
get the right what they do to it.

Chris 8:12
They know they specifically they did not fix the Yeti. Did they remove the hair ties? Like what that I did not hear it took this long? I don’t know it’s been but it’s been three full months. Right? It was right after we left in January. Seems like a lot it does seems like it’s been a minute. Yep. So permits have been released for the DVC tower that they’re building at the Polynesian and this is going to be enormous. It’s going to amaze and, you know, we all see the beach that’s out there where the bungalows are and where we can sit and watch the fireworks across the way. But there’s also a pretty substantial beachfront that’s on the opposite side of the Polynesia Marina there, between Polynesian and Grand Floridian and at the permanent so it’d be believed this thing could eliminate that whole beach. It’s going to be big, broad and tall and pretty excited about Wow. Yeah, that’s

Kelli 9:06
cool.

Chris 9:07
I’m excited about it. So at Disney World, the meet and greets were added to Genie plus. Okay, but at Disney Land, they’re about to relaunch meet and greets traditional meet and greets out there. But these will not be on Genie plus at Disneyland.

Kelli 9:27
I don’t think I knew Disneyland was doing Genie. Plus, I

Chris 9:30
know Yeah. They’ve got more. They thought they’ve got more attractions at Disney Land. Okay, then they did I think they do too. I think

Kelli 9:39
they do actually. Yeah, absolutely. Like they cram it in there. Yeah. Yeah, no, that’s interesting. I don’t think I knew that the genie plus was out there.

Chris 9:49
And they’ve also released a specialty food guide for the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade and other nighttime spectacular

Kelli 9:56
and so much for that and I’m so excited about I’m so excited to bucket sippy cups merch galore there’s there’s a company like bring it in.

Chris 10:05
I feel about that is a they’re doing so much maybe they feel like this is gonna stick around for a long time that would be great. Be Where the heck is Orlando’s nighttime spectacular light up parade I want a lineup pray bring back spectrum I knew you’re gonna say spectrum magic I mean I prefer the electric light pray but bring back spectral magic. Why don’t

Kelli 10:29
you call it the electric light parade isn’t the technical term Main Street Electrical Parade.

Chris 10:34
I think that’s right. Yes.

Kelli 10:35
Well, you’re screwing that up maybe they make something completely new.

Chris 10:42
Well then let’s have it. I’m just saying let’s go. We’ve been how long now without an electric flyer site parade your Magic Kingdom? I mean, come on. What

Kelli 10:55
are you supposed to do?

Chris 10:56
I mean, but but hey, good for Disneyland. I love they’ve got all that merch and those sweets and everything. It’s

Kelli 11:00
really it’s really hot and heavy out there. Obviously this stuff.

Chris 11:04
So Imagineers have confirmed that at Disneyland Paris in their Avengers campus. They’re they’re they’re they’re creating this Iron Man attraction. Right. I think it’s a coaster, I believe. And it will have a next generation audio animatronic Iron Man that will be either in the queue or somewhere in there that you you, oh, effectively interact with this Iron Man character. He’s capable of 43 different functions and movements and whatever. But then also the building will have a like a luminescent screen outside that will also interact with patrons. Oh, yeah. Yes. You said and and it will be voiced by Friday Friday. Right his his AI that helps him with the with everything which

Kelli 11:58
is cool. That’s very that’s really cool. Hong

Chris 12:00
Kong Disneyland is finally opening up on April the 21st. If they don’t push it back again. Salt and straw the ice cream place is opening up at Disney Springs. It’s a big deal out of Downtown Disney in California. And I’ve been have had this one for a few weeks now. So Percy Jackson and the Olympians is getting a series on Disney plus. Rick reordan and John Stein wrote the books they and John Steinberg will write the plot. And I just announced this week that Walker Scoble who was the child star in the recently released movie, the Adam project? He’s great, by the way. Yeah, he will play Percy Darcy I saw pictures of him. He

Kelli 12:42
does like a good person. He

Chris 12:43
looks like you’d be good in this. Yeah, it’s

Kelli 12:45
like a good a good person. I’m excited about Yeah,

Chris 12:47
this is executive produced by the same folks that did Mysterious Benedict society and Dora and the Lost City of Gold. Okay, cool. I got I got high hopes for this. I think this is the proper medium for Percy Jackson. Yeah. So. Okay, I’m excited about your orange bar to JSON topic.

Kelli 13:04
Yes. So it’s orange bird adjacent because it’s a springtime topic. And I feel like orange bird is very springy. It’s

Chris 13:09
big spring to you.

Kelli 13:11
Yeah. So I’m going to tell you the 20 best Easter treats at Disney. Now I want to say I think Disney went all out for this. Especially here in the states not so much Tokyo and Hong Kong. So I didn’t put them on the list are fairly basic treats. But so I went through there are way more than 20 Easter treats out there. I just picked what I thought were the coolest 20 sure that I wanted to talk about and for those of you that are going to ask No, I don’t have pricing. I got this stuff from Disney Parks blog, and they frequently don’t post pricing on their stuff.

Chris 13:41
Gosh, the person that always asked for pricing is gonna feel very insulted. Yes,

Kelli 13:45
so I am sorry about her. Okay, I’m sorry about it. But first, let’s get started. So there’s two that are available at multiple resorts through April the 23rd. The first is a coconut sugar bunny cupcake. Now this is a carrot cake cupcake filled with pineapple top with cream cheese butter cream and a coconut sugar bunny but now I added I added the butter. Oh, because they just had coconut sugar bunny but it is just his but it’s just a little coconut ball with feet on the back of it and a little tail. So it looks like he’s digging in the grass. That’s really so it’s funny, but it’s really cute. Okay, it’s really cute. The next one is called raspberry fields. And this has a pistachio finance. See here. I think maybe this is French, you wonder. But in any case, I’m gonna break this down for you. It’s like a pistachio crumb crust on the bottom. Okay, that’s whatever a financier is. Then a raspberry jelly. A lemon curd and a white chocolate glass gauge glass. Glass blocage. Okay, now here’s the thing I would call it This really sexy looking dessert. I mean it looks like six bubbles sitting on your pistachio crust. Okay, and that somebody’s like poured lemon curd over the top of it and it’s like a white chocolate printed swirl on top. It’s a really sexy looking dessert. I don’t know what a raspberry jelly is, but I think it’s a little raspberry bowl. Okay, I think it’s interesting. Somebody should try it. Sounds like

Chris 15:26
it’s beautiful. At the boardwalk bakery.

Kelli 15:29
They have an Easter moon pie. Oh, love me a good moon pie. This is gonna be sugar cookies with marshmallow filling dipped in a semi sweet chocolate and decorated with holiday decor. Okay. They also have a coconut macaroon nest. Now this is a traditional giant coconut macaroon maca? Maca rune not like what you get out of Disney land for the the mountain that we all had her horn. Okay, giant coconut macaroon with pastel chocolate and sprinkles and a crunch candy easter eggs. It looks like a bird’s nest with Easter eggs and beautiful. If you didn’t tell me this was a coconut macaroon nest. I wouldn’t have been able to describe it as such. Okay, next is the Caribbean beach bike Spyglass grill now this is cool because it just reopened on April 14. Oh nice. They have a coconut sugar bunny cupcake. Now I’ll tell you there are tons of cupcakes for the Easter stuff and I am here for a cupcake Yeah, but I only pulled the ones that I thought were really cool. Oh wait no, that’s the same. I’ve already said the coconut sugar bunny. Oh, we wonder we All right y’all. Sorry. I’ve already said that one. So again, cakes. I’m only pulling the ones that are cool. Next up Coronado Springs. This is the Barcelona lounge they have a bird of paradise refresher. Now this one made the list this is non alcoholic. There’s plenty of great springy alcoholic drinks but they didn’t make the list. I was going strictly for dessert, strawberry lemonade, passion fruit juice and passion fruit boba on ice. So y’all know that one made the list because passionfruit Bobo man passionfruit Baba. Over at the Grand flow at Gasparilla grill or they have a spring bird’s nest donut again if you hadn’t told me this was a donut. I wouldn’t have known you don’t see the hole at all. chocolate sponge cake donut glazed and garnish with a Crunchy chocolate nests. Now you know what this is this are like like little pretzel sticks. Chocolate to make a nest Oh, and sugar eggs. So imagine a chocolate glazed donut with chocolate pretzels on top and little eggs. Sure

Chris 17:42
that sounds delightful. Over at the poly they

Kelli 17:45
got two things that are cool. One of them is a hoppy Easter cupcake. This is going to be a vanilla cupcake with raspberry fluff filling. buttercream, a chocolate Easter Bunny like he’s just sits on top and jelly beans so much going on a lot going on there. Then you’ve got love this one the Easter Bunny dome cake so it’s like a dome that’s white shirt with eyeballs and ears. This is gonna be your carrot dome cake with cream cheese filling a white chocolate glove gauge. That’s like the other one that we had earlier. Butter cream and a rice paper butterfly got a lot going on on that bunny what’s going on a lot happening on that bunnies head. You can also get at the pineapple and I and Easter soft serve which is pink vanilla soft serve with toasted marshmallow flavors topped with Easter sprinkles. That one’s going to be a fun time. Sure. We’ll run to now we’re going to move over to Disney’s Riviera Resort at the Lippitt PE T Lai petite cafe. Okay? This is gonna be classy stuff, y’all. I mean this is this a classy place. So the strawberry milk chocolate bunny is what we have here. This is going to be milk chocolate mousse filled with strawberry cheesecake. Think about that one for a second. Okay, this is a top Leno’s terrace now here’s what I’m going to tell you is it’s it’s got like a bass that it’s sitting on. And then a perfectly round pink bunny with ears. You would never know that was a milk chocolate mousse filled with strawberry cute. It looks like a really really classy pink bunny.

Chris 19:26
Really class I mean money. How is that not class

Kelli 19:29
I know. They also have the caramel cream easter egg which is vanilla mousse with a caramel center dark chocolate shell pistachio crumble and a chocolate sorbet. at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge they have a chocolate bunny, which is going to come with Easter Quinn’s no idea, no clue and jelly beans and then they also have a bunny cupcake, which is cool because it has its carrot cake with white chocolate confetti cake could pop bunny sticking out pop

Chris 20:02
cake pop

Kelli 20:03
over at the beach club at the marketplace you’ve got the Mickey and Minnie easter eggs you’re gonna see those all over the instance. This is what I think you should go for the the robin’s egg blueberry macaroons. I saw those on the instance is wrong, right. And they’re really cool. These are three large Robin colored macaroons filled with a ring of blueberry ganache and a blueberry jam center on a crispy chocolate nest. Those are that’s what you want to get there. Now y’all know over at Disney Springs Emirates is going to be killing it. They’ve got the Easter trifle, which is carrot cake cream cheese mousse, carrot cake croutons, interesting and malted easter eggs. I’m actually not for the malted easter eggs but I appreciate that they work does and it is a little bit different. The good Nasri Okay, yeah, right. The good Nasri has their famous Bucha famous busy bunny. Oh, so this is a chocolate bunny filled with sipping chocolate and bourbon. You can get a non alcoholic burst version but I say why? Why would you do they also have a mini mi n ie Easter pin Jada this is going to be your chocolate sphere served filled with candied easter eggs. Now the picture that they have of that looks like they give you a little wooden hammer to knock your head off. So that I was like that is a violent end to many. But here’s the grand finale. Oh, here it is. And there’s there’s one more that makes 20 But this one is the grand finale. This one’s over a California Downtown Disney District. Okay in sprinkles. Now rush because they only have this one through the end of the day today. This is a chocolate bunny. That’s what that’s what the name of it is. chocolate bunny. Okay, this is going to be dark chocolate cake with a chocolate ganache core with a chocolate cream cheese frosting topped with a ladle of chocolate ganache. That’s right. That’s what I’m saying. That’s what I’m saying. Those people that sprinkles are speaking my love language right there. You know what we’re gonna do? We’re gonna make the best chocolate cake with a ganache core and chocolate cream cheese frosting ever. And then we’re gonna give them a freakin ladle of chocolate ganache, pour some chocolate ganache all over it. So number 20 is actually back over at the Grand flow. So you know how they do a little booth for Gingerbread stuff. Well, they’ve got a little Easter booth this year. And so in their booth right there in the lobby, you can get like cakepops carrot coffee cake, a grand egg, artisan marshmallows, confetti cake popcorn and Mickey whoopie pie. Crispy crispy rice egg baby chick cupcakes and desserts, hot cross buns, chocolate chip sandwich cookie, dark chocolate bunny and a raspberry mini fudge in my opinion, I feel

Chris 22:59
like that was like the fireworks at the end of this.

Kelli 23:01
I know but I really do think that sprinkles was the was the grand finale just but but definitely the the little green cottage there the flow is gonna be there through tomorrow, the flow. And I hope people know what we’re talking about.

Chris 23:17
All right, well, so I’m doing food too. Right. So I got World Showcase. And I got some friends that just recently went to Walt Disney World. And in chatting with them. There was a lot of talk about what are some things we could do that aren’t necessarily table service, but are also good food. And so I decided that I would list my top 10 counter service, quick service, dining options at Walt Disney World. Okay. Okay, so a couple caveats here. i This is World Showcase. So I’m only doing ones that I’ve actually tried. If I have time maybe I’ll talk about you know, I’ll listen that I want to try in the future but I left out places that we love like Disney Springs that are that are locations that might be chains. I do have a Disney Springs on here. But like Earl of Sandwich, we it’s hard for us to to leave you know to not go to our own sandwich but you can get that other places. I also readily admit we’re a little bit bougie sometimes we like you places with the typical theme park food burgers and chicken strips and whatnot. Like cosmic rays. We just can’t quit sunny Eclipse sometimes I do love sun and so you know, we recognize that’s probably not in the top 10 or even 20 of the best counter service places. But we go there. No shame. So here we go. Number 10 Yak and Yeti local foods cafe. Right so Yak and

Kelli 24:41
Yeti number 10. Are these in specific order? I

Chris 24:43
think so.

Kelli 24:44
Oh my goodness, just

Chris 24:45
a yes or no. For no other reason, then it’ll give you something to argue about. Okay. So Yak and Yeti is a delicious table service experience Animal Kingdom serving next level Asian fare. Yeah, Yak and Yeti Local Food Cafe is a say intake on Asian deliciousness, but in a quick service offering lots of seating at this location all of its open air but you can almost always find somewhere to sit. You’re looking at teriyaki beef rice bowls honey chicken egg rolls fried rice, veggie tikka masala and as we’ll see in a lot of these locations, you’re not gonna this is not your average fare standard fare. There is although an American Kobe beef cheeseburger if you get picky eaters, you’re gonna go 13 to $16 here at this location Yeah,

Kelli 25:30
wow number 10 Your daddy Yep. Flame

Chris 25:33
tree barbecue we’re staying at Animal Kingdom. Right so another another offering there. Not far from the tree of life on the way from there to Dinah land, you really can’t miss it. It’s got a big huge sign out there. Loads of comfortable seating and an open air environment a lot of times depending on where you find that that seat. It might be more secluded and quieter than you then you think it’s going to be Yeah, Animal Kingdom

Kelli 25:58
can can definitely feel much quieter than some of the first year

Chris 26:01
and by the way, Animal Kingdom brings it when it comes to food. Yeah, they do. They really do. These guys are offering smoking meats and chicken baked beans, coleslaw, mac and cheese salads. Even a plant based hotlink sandwich which I keep my mind can’t even wrap around that. Lots and lots of adult beverage options at the flame tree lots of cocktails there to choose from. Again here your entrees are going to range from $12 to $17 at this location, right next year at Sleepy Hollow. Now I almost didn’t put this on there because it’s really more of a snack type thing but it’s quick service and they have

Kelli 26:43
they have full meals because they get the full thing

Chris 26:48
and they give you homemade potato chips with that that are really good. They might be chicken waffle honestly. But I treated it as more than just a snack because they have their own seating also they have outdoor seating area back there. They have both sweet and savory options that have breakfast and then they have snacks throughout the day. Waffle bass dishes but sweet and savory handed corndogs and I mean like literally really hand dipped. And some ridiculous funnel cakes.
